    - A hidden gem!

A hidden gem! Found it by accident because our son wanted to kayak and it was the only rental place around. The surprise was the setting: absolutely gorgeous wildlife preserve with a cool water trail to follow through to a pond with the oldest bald cypress in Illinois (1000 years +) in the middle of Eagle pond. The place is unassuming and it is pretty much a swamp. The staff though is super friendly and there wasn’t much bugs. We spent a couple hours paddling around. The map we were given is rudimentary and the markers not always clear and easy to find but it is never the less hard to get lost. Saw lots of herons and turtles. Highly recommend!! See more..

The tour guides are very friendly. We did the 9 AM starved rock guided tour for about 2 and a half hours. We saw different kinds of wild life in their natural habitat. I would definitely recommend doing this tour before renting and kayaking on your own. Some parts of the river are shallow so you have to be careful so you don't get stuck. See more..

Took 10 of us to kayak the lake and it was fun for all ages. Lake has rope swings and plenty of room to explore. Took a couple kids back later that week for a 3 hour river kayaking trip - water was low and rapids were minimal. Plenty of places to stop and picnic or explore on the river. See more..

The service and personal connection was out of this world. They answered all my questions immediately and everyone was very friendly. Then you throw in an incredible float trip by way of kayaking & close to perfect weather it came pretty close to being epic. In fact we didn't feel like we were in Illinois as it's very scenic and much bigger than we thought. We will do it again next year!! See more..
  5. 5.0 Ayer's Landing Canoe Rental (12 reviews)

Nine people in our group ranging from ages 13-50. We rented four canoes and one kayak. We called a day ahead to let them know we were coming and they were ready for us. We loaded up on the short bus and headed out on the 12 mile trip. They drive you to the top of the river and you float back to the place. There was a sign on the river letting you know when you arrived so you didn't pass the place up. Bring your own koozies, otherwise you pay $3 each to have theirs. They don't really give you any instructions, so you should have some experience before going. The Fox River was pretty smooth, no real rapids at all. We did encounter a large tree in the river that flipped one of the canoes, but no biggie! There are beautiful views along this river - bring a waterproof camera! We started around 11:30am and finished about 5:20pm. It was a great trip and we will do it again! See more..

We did the full moon guided tour on Oct 9th and had a great time! The water was really low, and it made it challenging to get the kayaks thru in one section, but the moon rising over the cypress trees made it all worth it. There were several people who showed up for the tour. A large family - 14 of them, and about 10 others including my husband and I, so we were separated into two groups so each group could have their own personal guide. Mark, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We not only got to see the moon rising ahead of us, but we could also see the sun setting behind us, all in the same tour! We are already talking about doing it again in the spring! See more..

The reservation process was easy. Even when I had to call back and make a change they were very accommodating. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. One of the paddles was bent making it a little hard to paddle but the rest of the equipment worked great and you mostly just float down the river so the paddle was barely used anyway. Well worth the money. Amazing experience if you’re looking for a leisurely activity to do with the family or friends. See more..

Fisheye Kayak Rentals was great to work with. We had a large group ranging in age from 2 to 72. From planning our excursion to loading us into the kayaks, Brandon and his crew were outstanding. This is the second year we've used them for our family outing and we had a blast each time. If you are looking to explore Southern Illinois' many lakes this is the group to use. See more..

My daughter and I joined 5 other locals for beginning kayaking lessons. The fee included, 2 hrs on the river, professional kayaks, paddles & life vests. It was apparent the instructor was an expert. He was patient and individually attentive, answering our questions and providing lessons according to our skill levels. The river was a bit low in spots & and he guided us safely avoiding the shallow spots. This was a great experience, in fact, my daughter took the 5 hour class the next weekend & found it to be even more informative. Classes fill up quickly so make reservations in advance. See more..
  13. 4.0 TJ's Canoe Rental (1 review)
    - Kayaking on the Rock River

    TJ's Canoe Rental image
A group of us went kayaking on the Rock River on August 22. We made our reservation a few days prior as there were 6 of us. We rented 2 person kayaks as well as 1 person kayaks. TJ's was easy to find and the whole process went smoothly. They give you a map so you know exactly where to get out of the river. They were there waiting for us when we arrived and transported us back to the starting location. The river was very shallow and there was almost no current so our 2 hour trip was plenty. They also offer a 4 hour trip. It was $45 to rent the 2 person kayak. See more..
