Reed's Canoe Trips, Illinois, United States

4.0 (6 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Kankakee Kayaking & Canoeing

Great lazy day activity for family and friends!!!

The reservation process was easy. Even when I had to call back and make a change they were very accommodating. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. One of the paddles was bent making it a little hard to paddle but the rest of the equipment worked great and you mostly just float down the river so the paddle was barely used anyway. Well worth the money. Amazing experience if you’re looking for a leisurely activity to do with the family or friends.

A Peaceful Trip Down the River
Although peaceful, this canoe trip requires you to be in good enough shape for two of you to paddle a couple of hours with a very mild current down the Kankakee River. We found it an enjoyable activity during our family visit to the Chicago area. Wise to bring at least a bottle of water or a small cooler for hydration. Be prepared that you will be outdoors the whole time and your feet/shoes might enter the water. Not much wildlife visible (birds, turtles), but some picturesque homes along the route. If you're looking for a home in the area along the waterfront, this is a good way to see them.

    Okay canoe trip
Office staff were very nice. System was organized. Did the 6 mile trip with our two kids in one canoe and one double kayak. I didn’t do any prior research and ended up a little disappointed. The first half of the trip takes you through busy residential with lots of street noise. Second half is still mainly river homes/residential but a bit quieter. We are used to more nature based/scenic trips and I thought that this would be similar. Not a fan of taking a trip through town. We were told there are multiple sandbars to stop at but we only found some shallower mud bottomed places to stop. Kids had fun fishing and caught a couple of catfish. Weather was nice and trip was easy, but we’ll stick to trips that help you escape your every day environment.
