  1. 5.0 The Pinnacle (1.248 reviews)
    - The Scenic route to The Pinnacle
    Hiking Trails
    The Pinnacle image
I would recommend the path setting off from the Wonderlamd car park for anyone with a modicum of fitness. The route winds up through the Grand Canyon, an impressive and in places quite deep rock gorge leading out onto bare slabs past the small but attractive Bridal Veil cascade and eventually into Silent Street, an in places very narrow slash in the bare hillside, leading via a series of steps and ladders to the proximity of the Pinnacle. Look out for the small yellow arrows which are occasionally a challenge to spot. We did the walk In the late afternoon and the lighting was perfect to capture the harsh dramatic landscape. See more..

  3. 4.5 Mait's Rest (862 reviews)
    - Nice place for a walk

    Mait's Rest image
This place is one of the major tourist attractions in Apollo Bay for valid reasons. The rainforest walking trail is superb. My wife and I drove to this place to do that walk, during our holiday in Lorne for three nights. There were very few visitors at the time of our visit as it was mid week off peak season. It was very easy to find a parking spot and very easy for social distancing during our walk as we did not see anyone else. See more..
  4. 5.0 Great Ocean Walk (621 reviews)
    - Hiking and camping in style.
    Hiking Trails
    Great Ocean Walk image
Our group of 9 friends did the self-guided 6-day Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay. We very sensibly used Hike2camp to provide all our needs, carry all our belongings and set up our tents in each overnight camp. We found Hike2camp run a very professional and friendly service. They provided our breakfast for us to cook or organise ourselves and a packed lunch with plenty of snacks for each day’s hiking. When we reached each day’s camp, our tents were set up with our gear in each, and we had our one-pot dinners ready for heating on the supplied gas stoves. Hike2camp take on all of the hard work and logistics, leaving hikers with the simple pleasures of just hiking during the day and enjoying the company of the other hikers at each camp site at night. I highly recommend using Hike2camp, owned and operated by young local people, who we found provided value for money. See more..
  5. 4.5 Kokoda Trail Memorial Walk (185 reviews)
    - Beautiful hiking place !
Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Hiking Trails
    Kokoda Trail Memorial Walk image
The 1000 Steps is probably Melbourne’s most popular bushwalk. Officially the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk, walkers love the challenge of the steep trail, locals appreciate the convenience and tourists just want a picture of a gorgeous rainforest walk. But to truly appreciate this unique place, you need to visit when it’s quiet. The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk (incorporating the 1000 Steps) departs from Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, winding up a steep hill along a creek through lush rainforest, before emerging into a clearing where you can enjoy great views of Melbourne through the trees. Complete the loop by taking the Lyrebird Track back to the carpark. The path is steep and beautiful, which makes it attractive to fitness walkers and tourists however please leave your dog at home, as this walk is not for your pets. Dogs are not allowed at the 1,000 Steps. See more..
  6. 4.5 Cape Schanck Boardwalk (177 reviews)
    - Great views from the top or the bottom
    Hiking Trails
    Cape Schanck Boardwalk image
Pre COVID19 February I went here on a day that held all seasons in one visit - very typical Melbourne weather! [I have not put any photos from the board walk as the surprise should be yours!] The carpark had a view tourists buses and some cars, but still plenty of spaces to park. There are toilets there and you must take your rubbish home with you. You have a choice of walking along the top part of the boardwalk alone, which I can tell you is spectacular. Or you can do this and then go down the 80+ steps to the beach and walk along there which is also worth doing for the most spectacular views. Tips: 1. Wear study walking shoes 2. Swear a hat / sunscreen / insect repellant / ample water 3. Wear layers as the weather is changeable 4. Take a camera From here you can also do the lighthouse walk, the observatory point walk and visit the museum [though it was closed when I went]. There are also spots for picnics. Worth heading here once this all finishes. See more..

We really enjoyed our walk past the Venus Baths. It was a warm summers day when we visited and so it was quite crowded. Everyone who was there was having a lovely time, though, particularly the young children. The Venus Baths Loop is an easy walk and perfect for people who don't want to get too worn out. See more..

  10. 5.0 Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail (89 reviews)
    - A great ride on a Autumn day
Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail image
While staying in Bright I hired a bike and the first day I got onto the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and rode from Bright to Myrtleford. A 60 Km. Round trip ride it was fantastic. No steep sections just lovely grades, good maintained track . The ride takes you through some lovely country, beautiful sections riding through lovely Autumn coloured trees, some spots you are riding on a carpet of leaves, magical Good spot for a break is at the old station site at Eurobin, there is good toilet facilities there with a tank with drinking water. You ride past hop farms, chestnuts and walnut places , winery, plant nursery and the very popular Happy Valley pub where many stop for a rest/ drink . It was a great ride but first day on a strange bike I was a bit saddle sore when I got home . See more..

    Mallacoota Coastal Walks image
This coastline is absolutely breathtaking. So many walk s and so much to see. The walking tracks appeared to have resurfaced (not sure when) but so easy underfoot. I witnessed some dolphins playing which was pretty special and the Spring colours of the native plants are beautiful. You’ll be pleasantly surprised of the regrowth after the fires of 2019/20. Mallacoota truly is a ‘hidden gem’. See more..

  13. 4.5 Lake Benalla Walking Track (80 reviews)
    - Picturesque landscape
Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
    Lake Benalla Walking Track image
The first time I walked around this lake was with my mother about thirteen years ago... it was quite beautiful with rose gardens. Fast forward to recent times and I visited again. My memory is imprinted a little differently to the landscape that is there now. It's been slightly altered and Benalla continues to evolve as a rural town making it a place to go. It is now a destination in itself. The 4.25 kilometre track is stunning. You can choose how much of it you want to walk, or you can take advantage of the seating along it's edge taking a break to enjoy the breathtaking serenity. Lake Benalla provides habitat for numerous birds from ducks and pelicans to cockatoos and kookaburras and you will definitely see them here. When I wandered around here it was late in the afternoon on a Friday and I was surprised there were not more people taking advantage of this beautiful area...but then, Covid has changed things so much. .. Still it's worth masking up and going for a walk. See more..
  14. 4.5 Mt Sturgeon (57 reviews)
    - What a view - beaten only by Mt Abrupt
    Mountains • Hiking Trails
    Mt Sturgeon image
We climbed as a couple in February. It was freezing - needed a few layers on to start but gradually shedded them as we walked. It offers majestic views of the surrounding ranges and plains. The official guide books say 7kms return. But it is actually 5kms return IF you park at the 2nd carpark (i.e. the carpark for Piccaninny 900 metres past the official Mt Sturgeon carpark). Once at the Piccaninny Carpark on Rte C217 you will see a sign to Mt Sturgeon walk. We did the walk up Sturgeon in 45 minutes. The track is often slippery - I used hiking sticks which saved me from a few potential falls. We didn't consider it to have rock hopping, although the guide pamphlets had described it as a rock hopping walk. This is well worth the effort and if you are fit you won't have any trouble at all doing it in under an hour. Loved relaxing at the top (despite the very cold winds) and taking in the view. 15. 4.5 Keppel Lookout Trail (54 reviews)
    - Exhausting but worth it
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Keppel Lookout Trail image
A strenuous trail but the views at the top were amazing and worth it. The trail is very steep in parts and you need to be reasonably fit and able bodied. Wear good shoes and take snacks and plenty of water, particularly in warmer weather. The highlight is the Steavenson Falls and if it’s hot, you could have a swim. I think we burned 800 calories each ☺️ See more..

Sailors Falls & Mineral Springs image
My wife and I stopped here for a walk on our way to Daylesford for a holiday of two nights, to attend an event called "Borealis on The Lake". We had enjoyed our previous visit 6 months ago and decided to visit again. This time, there was plenty of water in the twin waterfalls, because of so much rain in recent weeks. We embarked on the 1.4km Loop to Springs walk, which is a bit rugged in parts. At the time of our visit, there was no one else around, as it was a Wednesday morning in winter off peak season. Our car was the only car in the car park. See more..
  18. 4.5 High Country Rail Trail (36 reviews)
    - Fantastic rail trail in gorgeous location.
    Hiking Trails
    High Country Rail Trail image
We rode our e-bikes along this wonderful rail trail. It is generally flat and really well maintained being sealed or gravelled all the way. The trail meanders along beautiful Lake Hume with lovely lakeside recreational parks along the way. These can also be used as entry and exits points, where you can leave your car and ride only some of the trail. We stopped and had a picnic at one of them. We loved the town of Tallangatta and the 'ghost town' of what was left of Old Tallangatta. We had beautiful weather and riding along the old rail trail through Bonegilla siding was just a joy. We loved it so much as it a designated bike and walking track, so there are no cars. and it is surrounded by trees and the lake. We are looking forward to returning and doing it all again. See more..

    - A Gentle Stroll In The Forest
    Hiking Trails
    Domino Trail image
A pleasant, gentle walk, 6km each way, along a corridor of introduced European forest and native eucalyptus, and wildflowers. A hint of heritage could be felt as we made the easy stroll in the once-upon-a-time rail track, as remains of a few rails and bridges suggest. Little echidna greeted us on our way, and we stopped quietly to allow it's passage by us. Fortunate were we. It's a leafy, foresty, charming trail. We were delighted. See more..

Lovely walk - downhill all the way so uphill all the way back. Some amazingly huge eucalypts, lovely tree ferns and some fabulous fungi, including coral and jelly fungi in oranges and yellows. We got as far as the first cascade before we turned back due to mud. My husband in his boots was fine, I in my runners slipped and slid and got a bit wet; this despite recent sunny days and little rain. About half of the walk was very muddy. Be prepared! See more..

Whether you're a local, staying nearby or simply passing through the Bicentennial Park is a wonderful place (for adults and children alike) to pass the time of day. In terms of playground equipment it's better equipped than most. There are several slides and swings along with ample things to climb, bounce and swing on. There are BBQs and undercover tables if you'd like to enjoy a picnic here. Considering the utterly stunning and picturesque view you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to do so. It's also a great spot to stretch your legs - the circular pondage track is an easy 3km loop that features spectacular views. It can be enjoyed by bike or on foot. The park also features public toilets and ample parking. Each visit we found children (and families) playing happily. Who can blame them? There's a lot on offer here to enjoy. See more..

Great views of the river, very pleasant. They can be accessed from the Sheoak camping ground car park, or you can shave 1.5 kms off the walk if you start from Sharps track, about 1 km on the right before you arrive at Sheoak car park. The 2km return walk to the Big Tree and back is well worth doing. The deep forest is magical. If you are a photographer, get your camera ready. There is so much to look at, including potential macro shots. The tree is clearly signposted: it’s a 300 year old, 87 metre mountain ash that deserves your attention, but there is so much more here. The Cambarville picnic area is delightful. The Big Culvert is worth a look, too. Beautiful old stone covered in mosses and lichens. Kalimna Jetty is tucked away and unexpected... The road behind Kalimna Bar and Bistro leads down to it. When you arrive there is parking for a handful of cars. There is a picnic table, a small jetty, toilets, information boards and a walking track. It's one of these hidden gems that we don't like to share. When I lived at Kalimna many years ago I would pop down to this area because it was always so quiet. And it seemed like there was a perpetual string of fishermen that graced the area. It seems not much has changed in all of those years... except we now talk about the little hidden gems that only locals know about. It's a wonderful place to have random conversations with strangers, to lose yourself in your thoughts, to take your pet for a walk... or to simple enjoy the place by yourself.
