We visited Tae Rak aquaculture centre last week joined the morning guided walk with Jaydn. This was a wonderful experience and so enlightening to learn about the sophisticated aquaculture techniques developed over thousands of years by the local indigenous people. The remains of their carefully constructed stone houses is also remarkable, as is the story of the life cycle of the short fined Eel. Jaydn is a natural storyteller. Brilliant tour, guide and taste of the island. My partner and I did the explorer tour. Can’t say enough. Very easy to book online includes ferry ticket - great value! If you are thinking about doing some fossicking for gold or investing in a metal detector, I would strongly recommend a day tour with Gold and Relics, currently based in the gorgeous town of Clunes. We enjoyed every minute of our time with Darren who is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and full of common sense. His straight forward approach is great and he is eager for every participant to do well. He adds his stories to the mix of activities which includes using some of the best metal detectors available and learning about the basic geology and vegetation of the gold fields, what to look for and where to focus your time. We had a fantastic day and came home with some little bits of gold as well as a collection of old nails. Best of all, we both learned an awful lot in a short time because Darren is a natural when it comes showing novices the ropes and he left a lasting impression on both of us. Highly recommended! There were six of us which was more than the normal private tour so Vinnie worked around this and drove us in our van, taking us to the main sites but also to places only the locals know. He told us the fascinating history and geology of the area, helping us see so much more than we otherwise would, and brought his binoculars along for us all to see the animals and views up close. He picked some local berries for us to try and lunch was on a private property surrounded by gum trees with lots of koalas. Vinnie also told us about the local animals, land management and industries. He showed us a tiger snake he caught recently and explained how to keep safe from snakes, and natural remedies. Vinnie kept four teenagers entertained and interested for the day. A very interesting, insightful and enjoyable day!See more..

My favourite part of the bike ride was the anticipation of arriving at a different town after each day of riding. I enjoyed reading about the history at each destination, including browsing the shops, excited for our arranged nightly accommodation & sitting at a bakery, cafe and watching the day go by. I really enjoyed the journey along the rail trail and the surprises along the way, i.e. apple tree, butterflies, yea tunnel, grasshoppers, drinking station & Echidna.See more..

Timboon bike hire is a small locally run company that is out to please. I highly recommend doing the Camperdown to Timboon rail trail (from the station if you have 40kms in you). Let Timboon bike hire help with the bikes and logistics of the return and focus your energy on the ride! See more..

We visited Otway National Park (Otway Fly) , Forres and Lake Elisebeth 12 Upholsters during a four day holiday at Apollobay in Victoria over the long week end from 11th March to 15th March 23. 12 Upholsters was not knew to us as we have been there many times but Otway fly was new and we were impressed with the staff help as my wife was feable and return walk was adidifficult. They provided transport on our return journey. I was surprised that only two persons are managing the place to ensure visitor safety and requirements. We also visited the light house and Triplet Falls. I would recommend anyone to go there and visit Otway fly as the help is availble. Appolobay Beach front Motel is the place where we stayed during four days and on the last day we were without WiFi and I could not believe the explanation given by the Manager which is uncommon. If you are going to book the Beach front Motel make sure they offer you the WiFi during the entire period.See more..
