    St. Patrick's Cathedral image
When construction began on St Patrick's Cathedral in the 18th century, most of Melbourne's Catholics were Irish, so it is no surprise that the city's cathedral church was named for Ireland's patron saint. St Patrick's is magnificent building, worthy of its namesake. By the way, the cathedral is surrounded by a number of imposing statues, including Archbishop Daniel Mannix, one of Australia's most influential churchmen. See more..

    St Peter's Church image
St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church has stood on the slopes of Wombat Hill for over 150 years... in an area that has a lot of churches, this one really stands out. It has extensive grounds and the residence next to it. The church was designed by the architect William Wardell (1823 – 1899) in a manner strongly influenced by the English architect Charles Hansom. This is substantial stone building and clearly the wealth of the goldfields in the area is how this was funded. It's grounds are worth strolling around and they are open to the public to enter. St John's Catholic Church image
Bishop Gould recorded in his diary that he blessed and opened on 8 May 1866 a small church in Euroa named in honour of St Michael the Archangel. This was the first church building in Euroa. On 6 March 1887 the new church was blessed and opened by Bishop Reville Coadjutor. This church is unique in as much as it looks like a new build when it actually has some age on it. It is beautifully presented. Not that you could go inside, but apparently the church was restored in 1915. It has large grounds surrounding it. See more..

    Holy Trinity Anglican Church image
The Anglican Church owns a series of buildings very close together... all very beautiful. They own a court house that you can visit Ned Kelly's cell ( or one of his cells ). The area has beautiful gardens to saunter through and it appears that it is consecrated ground as well. The earliest church services for Church of England (Anglicans) in Benalla was recorded in 1849 when Bishop Perry of Melbourne visited the settlement. The service was performed in the original court house. By 1854 an allotment of land at the corner of Bridge, Thomas and Martin Place had been set aside for a church, school and hall. The church was apparently built in 1860. It has amazing history and wandering around the site is so relaxing...really quite stunning. I would recommend this area to anyone who has an interest in architecturally interesting historic buildings. See more..
  13. 3.0 Seymour Presbyterian Church (2 reviews)

    Seymour Presbyterian Church image
The Presbyterian Church of Victoria is one of the constituent churches of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. It was established in 1859 as a union of Church of Scotland, Free Presbyterian and United Presbyterian congregations. The Presbyterian Church of Victoria in the nineteenth century has been described as "the strongest, wealthiest, loudest and most influential of the churches in Victoria." In 1901, it united with the Presbyterian churches of the other states of Australia to form the Presbyterian Church of Australia. From 1901 to 1977, the PCV was the largest of the state Presbyterian churches. In 1977, the majority of congregations left to join the Uniting Church in Australia. So what's here now... not too far from the underpass for the railways, this church is prominently located propped within view of Anzac Street. It's walking distance from the Railway station. I would say that compared to many churches in the area, it's actually not as attractive as many of the other. I believe the main reason it catches your eye is the location. Located walking distance to the Main Street, I can see this being quite popular when going to church every week was something that most families did. See more..

    Seymour Uniting Church image
Seymour is a historic railway township located in the Southern end of the Goulburn Valley in the Shire of Mitchell, Victoria, Australia and is located 104 kilometres north of Melbourne. Seymour Uniting Church is situated nearby to VicRoads, and close to Pioneer Park. It quietly sits on the street, a reminder of a time when churches were vital to the local communities. For a small town, Seymour has it's fair share of churches. Foundation stone records: This stone - was laid in faith - to the Glory of God by - Rev A McCallum DD - 29th November 1924 - "The best of all is God is with us". It's an attractive red brick church with white trim. Worthy of a look IF you are in the area, but like many of the local churches... it isn't really noteworthy. See more..

    St Lukes Anglican Church image
St. Luke’s Anglican Church is a classical example of a Victorian Academic Gothic church. Gothic architecture was perceived by the pious Victorians as an expression of religious, and therefore, moral values. Its revival was thus seen as virtious and equated with moral revival. For this reason an ecclesiastical character was predominant. As befits such architecture, St. Luke’s is a modest church with elegant lines. It features a steeply pitched roof of corrugated iron and plainly fashioned walls that excellent stone masonry. It features common qualities of Victorian Academic Gothic architecture including a parapeted gable, wall buttresses marking structural bays, and lancet stained glass windows with restrained tracery around them. The cost of the build was £600.00 with an additional £200.00 for essential furnishings, which included aid from the government. It is believed that funding to build the St Luke's Church in Yea all started in 1862 with a donation of 16 shillings donated by a Miss Watton. Her wish was that the funds were to be placed towards the construction of an Anglican Church in Yea. Miss Watton’s wish was fulfilled six years later when St. Luke's Anglican Church built on the corner of Lyons and Pelissier Streets was officially opened in October 1868. The church is prominently located in the centre of town, not far from the War Memorial. I took a walk around it ... it has lovely gardens. If you like old architecture ... it's worth stopping to have a look. See more..
