It's a short walk from this location to either Spencer Street or Flinders Street for those who have travelled in from Regional locations. Collins Street came into being in 1837 when Robert Hoddle laid out his grid for the city of Melbourne and recommended the street be named after Lieutenant Governor David Collins, an English marine officer who fought in the American War of Independence before sailing to Australia with the First Fleet in 1786. The street has some amazing architecture derived from the boom time of the gold rush ... which makes it look quite opulent in areas. It continues to evolve balancing old buildings with new. - Stunning
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts
    Boroka Lookout image
As the other reviews say, it’s well worth the drive up from Halls Gap as the views are stunning. Two different viewing platforms to enjoy the scenery. There is also a path to the right of the platforms - a short walk along the path will provide the same fabulous photos opportunities but away from the crowds. A word of caution though: a tourist seeking a selfie fell to her death last week. She climbed over the fence/barrier at one of the platforms, ignored the warning signs and then slipped - in front of her family. When we visited, there were two groups of people who did exactly the same thing. It seems this is a daily occurrence. See more..

My wife and I visited this place during our recent holiday along The Great Ocean Road for three nights, staying in Lorne. When we were here in 2019, the Steps were closed due to storm damage. This time around, we were very glad the Steps were open for us to walk down to the beach. The views are spectacular. During our visit, there was no one else around (mid week off peak season), which made it even more enjoyable. Excellent for social distancing, especially since the Steps are very narrow and are not suitable for crowds. See more..

Last week we were driving through Seymour and just happened to drive past the memorial. We never knew it existed so we stopped and spent some time there. What a fitting memorial to all those that served in South Vietnam . 1962 to 1975, It is dedicated to the 60,267 Australians who served in that terrible war as well as 11 tracker dogs. There are 106 glass panels with photos depicting that era and all those that served there are named on the panels as well as the 11 tracker dogs. There is a cairn there in memory of those that made the supreme sacrifice. 496 Army, 17 RAAF, 8 Navy. This is the only memorial of it’s kind in Australia, it is beautiful and very emotional. There is military vehicles on display including a Centurion Tank and Huey helicopter which were widely used in the war The memorial was dedicated 30 March 2011. We were able to find the names of some mates who served in Vietnam , that was a touching moment. A must place to visit when in Seymour. See more..

    - Excellent location for a restaurant but loss that bit of history which is Geelong
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Piers & Boardwalks
    Cunningham Pier image
Located on a pier and looking out into the bay, this is an excellent location to have a restaurant and rooftop bar. It used to be a buffet restaurant then a fish and chips shop before adopting the current reincarnation. From what I know, this used to be where they unloaded wool from ships and there would be a tram which brings the wool directly into the warehouse/city. A location with a lot of history but is unfortunately gone in the name of progress. See more..

    Piper Street image
What you won't see here is the Pied Piper of Hamelin skipping down the street in his multi-coloured clothing with rats trailing him. What you will see is ...a stunning street full of shops that entice you into them, verandahs and old world charm. I have visited this street a few times this year- mostly for it's cafe culture. Kyneton has exceptional cafes. The last time I was in town I went linen shopping ... one of my shortcomings is my love of linen. :) The street is an essential part of the Kyneton experience and one that you should add to your list of experiences. Great Ocean Road image
This is a very popular drive from Melbourne but I would recommend doing it over two days. The winding roads give great views with special parking bays to keep you out of the traffic path. There were not many buses because of the travel bans for the thousands of Chinese tourists. It has been hard financially for the businesses. Nothing can take away from the beauty of the many sights like the Twelve Apostles, London Bridge, Port Campbell, Lorne, the Razorback etc. don’t miss the opportunity to visit. See more..

Chancery Lane is proof that good things come in small packages! You'll find surprises here, where the venues for food, fashion, lifestyle and art are modest, quirky and sometimes hidden. Walked all the way out to the viewing platform and back which is about 2hrs at a comfortable pace. Seals were there so we sat and ate lunch and watched them. They obviously aren’t super close. It was very very windy at the platform edge and along certain parts of the path as well. My advice is wear sunscreen and put it on just before you go, I still managed to burn despite putting on sunscreen twice. Also the flies are a killer so wear insect repellent! I’d think carefully about taking smaller children for this walk as it’s quite hilly and there’s no fences so if you’ve got a runner I’d keep close eye lol See more..

Sheep Hills is literally ... well no where. There really isn't much to see... except you pull off the main road and you will see a gorgeous old building that was clearly an old pub. I have no doubt that there is a strong community feel in the area because there is a tennis and golf club. But about the artist...Adnate, who is a Melbourne based artist, has spent much of his carer telling the stories of Indigenous people and their native lands by painting wonderful murals of them through out Australia. To get inspiration for this mural, Adnate spent time among the Barengi Gaijin Land Council in north-west Victoria, building friendships and getting to know the people better. Adnate's mural is of a Wergaia Elder named Uncle Ron Marks, along with a Wotjobaluk Elder, Aunty Regina Hood. They both stand beside two young children, Savannah Marks and Curtly McDonald. I really loved this silo art and recommend people make the effort to go and see it. See more..

    Ballarat Old General Cemetary image
This cemetery is a record of life and death in Ballarat from days gone by. The first internments were in 1847, although the first official burials were in 1856. The tombstones of Chinese miners and Jewish men, among other ethnic groups, testify to the diversity of the Ballarat goldfields. The Rotunda and the Gatehouse, which dates from 1920, are still in use. The Ballarat Old General Cemetery is a reminder that we come this way but once. See more..

Such a lovely pier for strolling or fishing. Beautifully lit up at night time. Lovely views of Lorne from the pier and best of all for us was meeting Sammy the Seal who loves showing off in the water for his visitors. He was absolutely adorable. See more..

Black Hill Lookout is a hill that overlooks Ballarat. It is a tall hill, that gives a fine view out over the city of Ballarat, by day or night. It is easy to access along established paths, which have been upgraded recently.. Black Hill is best known in Ballarat as a venue for downhill racing, by BMX and mountain bikes. By the way, it is wise to stick to the established paths, there are many dangerous abandoned mine shafts in the area. See more..

    Goorambat Silo Art image
Goorambat has 3 painted silos all done by artist Jimmy Dvate. In 2018 the first concrete silo of Millie the Barking Owl was completed along with a steel silo depicting a woodland scene. In 2019, Jimmy returned to paint another steel silo with Clydesdales Sam, Clem and Banjo under working harness. North Vic Trails is a Non Profit Community Group consisting of people from small towns. My fourth silo visit on the art trail. Very small town but well worth a visit. This silo stop is nice and a little quirky but that’s part of its charm. From the gorgeous silo painted by Finton Magee to the vintage farming equipment, cactus garden and Big Mallee Fowl this little treasure is well worth the visit. See more..

Twelve Apostles Marine National Park image
It takes some time to see the many pretty coves and beaches, towering rocks and cliffs, and do the beach walks. Many of the sites were almost deserted in the mornings, a bit busier in the afternoons. Lots of stunning scenery and a helicopter ride over the best of it was well worth it. See more..

    - Epic Expedition - Equal Parts Courage and Folly

    Burke & Wills Memorial image
Great views of Castlemaine from the memorial. This is one of Australia’s epic expeditions. Somewhat unprepared for what they were to encounter, they almost made it. The story is full of courage and folly. It also shows the desire of colonies to out do each other as this was seen as a Victorian enterprise. The memorial was also funded by public subscription. Both would be unlikely today - different times. Thanks for your vote. See more..

We saw the mural from across the lake and was so glad we investigated. What a magical structure! It took over 20 years to create and the community helped creat the ceramic tiles. Very reminiscent of Gaudi's Parc Guell in Barcelona Spain. You so must take a look - absolutely fantastic! See more..
