The Garden of St Erth image
We spent a wonderful few hours at the garden on a beautiful day in early March. Met friends for lunch in the cafe, then walked off our meal by wandering through the many sections of the gardens before spending time (and a few $) in the Diggers Club shop. The cafe's menu is not that extensive and service not the friendliest, but we didn't let that stop us having a very pleasant meal. I went for the 'Garden Vegetable Platter', a colorful assemblage of roasted veggies, all fresh from the on-site gardens. It was delicious, although I thought the plate was tad on the small side. The gardens are full of variety and colour and a delight to walk through; we backtracked more than once but that didn't trouble us in the least; in fact, gave us a chance to catch things we missed first time around. Last stop was the shop, brimming with seedlings, packets of heirloom seeds and other garden-related goodies (including some very flash looking insect hotels). Costs $10/person to visit the gardens. We found them to be very pretty. Plenty of shady trees are there for visitors to sit under in the warm sunshine. Some of the pathways are difficult to use for those with limited walking abilities, but these pathways can be avoided. The Lone pine memorial is definitely worth a look. Even if a visitor does nothing else, they should take the time and trouble to remember those who fell during The Great War. See more..

Cool, peaceful and shady. Very European planted garden (hello 19th Century). Lovely lawns. Interesting history with old walled swimming pool (now a garden) and spring fed lake. Curious street borders of park with grumpy householders keen to sign “no trespassers”. Fair enough, can you spare an egg or cup of sugar? See more..
