The foundation stone for the Wangaratta Technical School was laid in July 1927 by Sir John Bowser, Minister for Education. The school opened at the beginning of 1928. Their first enrolments were 61 junior day students, 3 senior day students and 205 night students. Seventeen different courses were offered to night students. The first principal was Mr Topperwein... with Mr C Moore in charge of day students. The first school council was elected in March of 1928. In 1948 a hostel was built to accommodate boys from remote areas. This library is more than just books, they offer programs and events for children and adults, including story time and talks with authors. They also have a large range of free online resources! It also seems quite appropriate that a former school is now a library. See more..

Described at the time of building as "Elizabethan", the red brick facade, with its twin gables and recessed porch, has an important presence in the streetscape. Designed by Mr J E Lundholm, architect, and opened in September 1910, is of Local social and architectural significance.Architecturally, the Library is a relatively unusual type for its period, and has an impressive facade for such a diminutive building. “For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.” – Anne Lamott See more..
