  4. 3.0 Glenrowan Tourist Centre (309 reviews)
    - Unique, quirky and a lot of fun
    Visitor Centers
    Glenrowan Tourist Centre image
This is a must see if you have some sort of sense of humour. Definitely not for little children mainly due to some loud noises and effects, but they do warn you of that outside. Yes the entry cost is relatively steep to other attractions, however you would imagine that the animatronics technology which is at least 1980s vintage would be costly to upkeep. The owner is doing a wonderful job maintaining and improving the exhibits, some of it inspired by Disney like attractions such as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. The narrator at the beginning is a bit hard to follow as he mumbles, snarls and sneers away. He appears like the emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars movies. Very menacing but great entertainment value anyway. Its not for everyone, but I enjoyed it with my daughters 22 and 16. Looking forward to sharing the fun with the rest of my family on another visit. 8. 4.5 The Port Fairy & Region Visitor Information Centre (149 reviews)
    - History tour with Glen the highlight
    Visitor Centers
The Port Fairy & Region Visitor Information Centre image
Great little information centre with very helpful staff. The real highlight was the walking history tour with Glen. Being a retired school teacher, he was able to provide an informative, engaging, entertaining and educational history of Port Fairy. I was really pleased that the tour began with an acknowledgement of Indigenous Peoples' suffering as part of the history of the area. Very tastefully done. I only wish I'd been there longer to do the other tours that Glen leads as they would have been great but time didn't allow it. If you can put up with his dad jokes lol I highly recommend the guided tours. See more..

Alpine Visitors Information Centre Bright image
While there is limited street parking for the visitor centre, you could always park at the nearby Howitt Park and walk back. I was fortunate to get one of the parks near the centre because it's quiet at the moment. It has a map of the area on the outside of the building in case you are here outside of hours. The information centre has oodles of information and local produce on hand. I purchased local cordials, a book, and of course, wombat poo, for someone's birthday. ( Chocolate of course... but quite funny) The young lady inside was very helpful... I needed information to drive over to Gippsland from here. She was able to inform me that only one of the two roads was open (even though we are in Spring). And of course, I followed her advice and made it safely back to Gippsland. See more..

What a delight this village is, with its quaint old houses, a wonderful old pub, a tiny camping ground at the end of the village and especially the Discovery Centre. I am a “cricket widow”, but this centre was so well set out, maintained and presented, I really enjoyed it. It is centred on the first XI cricket team to go to England in the 1860’s, which was an all Aboriginal Team. It has information, photographs and memorabilia on the players, their uniforms, and their achievements in England. There is also a section on Bradman which is changed on a regular basis. Cohuna Visitor Information Centre image
Two years ago was the last time I was here and it was closed that day. Fast forward to a Spring weekend in October and it was open. This centre is really well done. There are expansive lawns and shady trees ... right next to a water way. There is car parking and it's walking distance to most things in town. The amenities were exceptionally clean. They have great information and displays about the area. They also offer for sale a small selection of local products. But the centres are often only as good as their staff... this would have easily got four stars for the experience, but the staff member added that extra star. She was amazing, she welcomed me ... asked me appropriate questions and even thought to suggest that I call before my next trip over and they would talk me through what was open. See more..

    Creswick Visitor Information Centre image
I stopped information because I was struggling to see any signs to George's Lake which is where I planned on visiting. I was met at the door to ensure I was checked in. I was happy to show my vaccination records and once the staff member had seen those she relaxed. It's strange how everyone seems on edge these days... it isn't something I have grown used to. Either way, the lady gave me some brochures and some advice on what to see in the local area. I used one of the maps she gave me for the rest of the day trying to locate what was on it. Creswick is a delightful town ... navigating it is interesting because there isn't a lot of signage to highlighted places, so having this information centre there is useful. There are public toilets available out the front of the centre... and it does have off street parking, albeit limited amounts. See more..
