4.5Sacred Heart Cathedral(573 reviews) - Wonderful building - must see Monuments & Statues
If you are in Bendigo please visit this beautiful church. The history is very interesting and we were lucky to have a very helpful attendant inside the church explain many of the features of the church and its history. She was extremely helpful and shared her time with us. Entry is free but donations are recommended and once inside you will be willing to make an easy tap on a device to donate $5. One of very few churches I have seen where the natural light is very abundant. Must see!See more..

Statue of Black Caviar located at Lake Nagambie Waterfront. The sculpture shows Black Caviar being ridden by her champion jockey Luke Nolen. Black Caviar was born on 18 August 2006 at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Victoria. The champion mare is the fastest horse in the world, undefeated in all her 25 races. The mighty mare retired on 17 April 2013 and now enjoys life as a broodmare. My wife and I parked our car along the side of the road where this statute is located and took a few photographs before embarking on a 3.5 kilometres walk along the lakeside.See more..

We haven’t visited this place for decades but not even the 6.5oC cold weather (not sure what it was with the chill factor) could dampen our spirits. Looking out over the countryside was so incredibly majestic and beautiful and seeing this great monument (memorial cross) that honoured those who fought in the 1st World War was something worth stopping to reflect on. We will be back. See more..

4.5Eureka Stockade Memorial(65 reviews) - A memorial to a piece of Australian history Spent 1-2 hours Monuments & Statues
A memorial to a piece of Australian history. Built on the site of the original Eureka Stockade, this memorial tells the story of the battle against the colonial authorities and the fight against the gold tax. A visit to here and the Eureka Centre provides a full history of the battle and it is great to take kids along to learn about what happened all those years ago.See more..
4.0Burke & Wills Memorial(50 reviews) - Epic Expedition - Equal Parts Courage and Folly Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Great views of Castlemaine from the memorial. This is one of Australia’s epic expeditions. Somewhat unprepared for what they were to encounter, they almost made it. The story is full of courage and folly. It also shows the desire of colonies to out do each other as this was seen as a Victorian enterprise. The memorial was also funded by public subscription. Both would be unlikely today - different times. Thanks for your vote. See more..
We saw the mural from across the lake and was so glad we investigated. What a magical structure! It took over 20 years to create and the community helped creat the ceramic tiles. Very reminiscent of Gaudi's Parc Guell in Barcelona Spain. You so must take a look - absolutely fantastic!See more..
4.5Yi Yuan Gardens(42 reviews) - A pleasant place to visit Architectural Buildings • Monuments & Statues • Gardens
My wife and I visited this place after our visit to the Golden Dragon Museum, as it is just next to each other. These Gardens are a good example of a chinese garden, albeit a bit small and lacking in flowers. We have visited several large chinese gardens in Shanghai (Yu Gardens), Suzhou (The Lingering Garden and The Humble Administrator's Garden) and the Gardens at the rear of The Forbidden City in Beijing, China; that were very impressive, a few years ago.See more..
Euroa is a beautiful town and ever so inviting. It's one of those perfect locations where everything just appears appealing. Three bronze statues, immortalising the bravery of Victoria Cross recipients, Fred Tubb, Alex Burton and Leslie Maygar stand in pride of place here - overlooking the beautiful and scenic Seven Creeks in Euroa. There are information boards telling you about their remarkable tales. Having three recipients of the Victoria Cross in such a small town is a bit of a novelty and it's nice to see they are remembered. The location along the creek is just very stunning with tall beautiful trees. On the day I was here there was even a family of ducklings making their way to the water. I would say if you are in Euroa...this is one of those places that you must visit.See more..

"The Rip", also known as "The Heads", is a dangerous stretch of water in Victoria, Australia, connecting Port Phillip and Bass Strait. It is the only entrance for shipping into Port Phillip and hence into Melbourne. 4.0McLandress Square(18 reviews) - The great wealth of the gold rush era Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Monuments & Statues • Government Buildings
My father and I parked opposite to this small square and we were immediately drawn to the beauty of the architecture. The town’s civic centre features European-style heritage buildings including the imposing Italianate palazzo-style post office, which was built in 1877 and still serves as a post office today. The town hall was built in 1887 after the local council established there was a need for a large building to house public functions. Still retaining many of its original features, additions to the town hall in 1939 added a number of beautiful art deco features enhancing the rich detail of the building. In 1892, the Federation Free Classical style courthouse was designed and commissioned and this opened one year later. One of the largest courthouses outside of Melbourne, the building has served as a courthouse continuously since its inception. It's worth having a closer look at this square... parking is available nearby and it's easy to walk through the area.See more..
4.0The Three Lost Children Walk & Monument(16 reviews) - A touching tribute to the past Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas • Monuments & Statues
We visited this monument today and we were so glad that we did! It is so lovely to see a community tribute from the long past still being acknowledged. Those three little adventurers deserve the tribute. And the tribute that Yvonne Fix established with hand planted bushes is so touching. Congratulations to the community for putting it there for us to stop by and contemplate. Don't miss it if you are int he area.See more..

3.5Birchip's Mallee Bull(13 reviews) - Perhaps More Bull Than Beef Monuments & Statues
Birchip was one of the latest towns to be established in this region and perhaps it is clear why as it is dry and barren place. Legend has it that sheep and cattle grazing was common and often some bulls would go off an do their thing and 'Big Red"the one on which the impressive monument in the main street portrays was one of the biggest and most feared. The size and standard of the old bull reflects sadly the town of Birchip but better than nothing and from the other displays along the same strip the locals are proud of their dusty little town and good on them..See more..
The statue is now behind glass as it had been vandalised. It is a quaint depiction of Robert Burns and his little dog, easy to to in the main street of Camperdown in a nice little garden niche.See more..

4.5Castlemaine Boer War Memorial(7 reviews) - Nicely presented memorial which achieves its purpose Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Castlemaine Boer War Memorial was resurrected in 1903 to pay tribute to three men killed whilst serving in the Boer War; the latter being the first conflict Australia was involved in as a nation. It has some beautifully sculpted lions but otherwise free of ornament or decoration. Given that the 3 men it pays tribute to were Privates and Corporals (usually the lower ranks attracted men from the working class) I’d like to think the simplicity of the memorial is fitting for these troops. Ie. Men who went about their lives, got on with things and had modest ‘no fuss’ lifestyles.See more..
It wouldn't be right not to stop to pay one's respect to Granny, would it? This was so unusual that we sought it out. So who was Granny? This grave marks the burial site of Agnes Ruttleton who died in 1848. She is recorded as the first white woman to be buried in Warrnambool. She lived with her crayfish-catching husband in a tent nearby, his name was James. It's remarkable that the grave is still there in such a prominent location and somehow ... it's right. I doubt that 'Granny' would ever have realised that she would be remembered over one hundred and seventy years later. And THAT'S what makes this grave remarkable... we remember this European resident that lived with few physical comforts.See more..

4.0World War 1 Memorial(5 reviews) - While you're in town, visit me!! Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
The World War 1 memorial in Seymour is a great little monument to those that served and those that lost their lives in service to their country in the Great War. The gates date back to 1927 and, after being moved about, have recently been the subject of a lot of work by the local RSL. They have done a great job. It's got a beautiful garden, and terrific glass panels with interesting information on them. So, when you are next in Seymour to see the Vietnam memorial, come along to see this memorial too.See more..

3.0Wallan War Memorial(3 reviews) - Memorial Elms Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
This War Memorial is located in Memorial Square that has been developed in 2018 as part of an enhancement project... it includes the Wallan Soldier's Memorial, Circle of Remembrance, two flag stations and bench seating. The memorial was erected to honour the men who fought locally in WW1- it was dedicated in 1922. Little did they know at the time that it would not be the last major war. The Circle of Remembrance was added later for all subsequent wars and conflicts and was dedicated in 2018. The main memorial for WW1 takes the form of a grey granite monolith, and contains the names of 53 soldiers. If you are in Wallan it only takes a few moments to visit and there is an extensive carpark nearby. Located next to this is the Avenue of Honour.... 53 elm trees for those who served in WW1.See more..
3.5The Mass Tree(3 reviews) - First Mass was held under river red gum Monuments & Statues
In the early days of settlement Outback Australia, churches were few and far between. There was no Catholic church in Wahgunyah, so the first Mass in Wahgunyah was said under a river red gum, sheltered by a tent. The site of first Mass in Wahgunyah is commemorated by a bronze plaque. It's a popular feature for those interested in the history of Christianity in Australia. The hardy river red gum is an icon of inland Australia, it flourishes whenever water flows.See more..
