  1. 4.5 Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail (1.768 reviews)
    - Bears

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail image
Nice driving tour of a small portion of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Not far from Gatlinburg. Pick up an information brochure for $1 at the start. A dozen stops along the route including scenic views and historical pioneer sites. Best to go early in the morning after sunrise or in the hour or 2 before sunset to avoid crowds and for wildlife spotting. Good opportunity to see black bears along here. A saw 3 different bears from my car including briefly a mother bear and her cub. Could spend an hour doing the drive but a hike to Grotto Falls from the trailhead on the tour is well worth the time and effort but will add to the time you will need. See more..
  2. 4.5 Grotto Falls Trail (927 reviews)
    - Short hike to a nice walk behind falls.
    Hiking Trails
    Grotto Falls Trail image
We did this hike to the falls with the entire family...2 grandparents, 4 adults, 1 teen and a 7 and 2.5 year old. Everyone walked on their own and made it there and back. We walked behind the falls, touched the falls, put our feet in the water and took many great shots. The 2.5 year old grandson even had us singing the Ants go Marching as we hiked the trail. GO EARLY! This is a short hike to this falls and parking can be tricky if you sleep in and then decide to go hike. See more..

    Gatlinburg Trail image
Very easy and pleasant hike along the river, and not crowded. Finding street parting could be a challenge, so go early or you'll have to pay for parking. We hiked to Cataract Falls and back. Our kids, 9 and 7 years old, really likes the falls. See more..
  4. 4.5 Abrams Falls Trail (490 reviews)
    - Loved The Cardio!

    Abrams Falls Trail image
The 5 mile hike to the waterfall was a beautiful way to spend a sunny Autumn afternoon! The trail is rated as moderate, so brink a good pair of walking or hiking shoes. The waterfall at the end is beautiful. There are restrooms at the trail’s entrance. Be aware the roads getting in and out of the trail become congested and take some time to navigate. See more..
  5. 4.5 Chimney Tops Trail (461 reviews)
    - Strenuous trail - worth the effort
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Chimney Tops Trail image
If you can handle a strenuous trail 1.8 miles up (3.6 miles RT) then this is a must do hike for you! We planned accordingly and the pay off of the view from the official end is totally worth it. You are NOT supposed to hike past the gate onto the actual chimney top but when we got to the top, people were on it coming down. Even if the trail was open, I would not attempt it; too treacherous. So still worth it to see the view at the end. See more..

    Tennessee Riverpark image
We had a couple of hours to spare before heading into the aquarium so we decided to check this place out. We were there on a Saturday and there were vendors everywhere selling stuff. We bought homemade cookies which were amazing! The walk by the river was absolutely beautiful and the murals down the stairs was a nice surprise. We didn't have time to walk the whole thing but we did love what we saw. There is no free parking here so you'll have to park in paid lots or in a parking garage and walk over. At least it's free to walk around. I would definitely visit again and next time I plan to book a boat tour as well. See more..
  8. 4.5 Rainbow Falls Trail (449 reviews)
    - Tough but Rewarding Hike
    Hiking Trails
    Rainbow Falls Trail image
We walked this hike in about 4 hours. On your way to the falls it is all uphill and can be difficult. The way down is easier. It is definitely worth it when you get to the falls. The falls are beautiful and there are rocks to sit on and eat a mid hike snack. I would recommend going early in the morning to beat the crowds and for cooler weather in the summer. See more..
  9. 4.5 Tweetsie Trail (173 reviews)
    - Beautiful trail run/walk
    Hiking Trails
    Tweetsie Trail image
We started at the trailhead in Johnson City and took the trail almost 6 miles, ending in Elizabethton near Sycamore Shoals. The path is clear and has lovely historic markers along the way. Plenty of benches are available as are mile markers about every 0.2 miles. The only issues are access to restrooms/porta potties are limited on the trail. Lighting is also an issue if you are planning to go in the evening. The trail currently spans 9.6 miles. I would love to see this finished at 10 miles as the course would make an excellent 10 miler run course. See more..
  10. 4.5 Clarksville Greenway (147 reviews)
    - The Clarksville Greenway
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Scenic Walking Areas
    Clarksville Greenway image
The Clarksville Greenway is the place to go for a scenic walk, running, cycling, for a picnic, or just to enjoy the scenic beauty. The Greenway is a Rails to Trails project where old rail road beds have been cleared to make paved paths for exercise and recreation. The path crosses a 600 foot train trestle styled bridge. Along the sides of the paths there are benches, picnic tables, and swings. Enjoy the natural landscape as the path meanders along the river and keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife. The trail head is located at 1101 Pollard Road and is open from dawn to dusk daily. Bathroom facilities are available near the parking lot. There are two trails. The trail to the left is more level and is 2 miles one way so would be four miles to complete it and return to the parking lot. The trail to the right is 2.6 miles one way thus 5.2 miles round trip and is very hilly. Dogs are allowed on a leash, and pet waste disposal stations are available along the trail sides. See more..

Conditions are wet and muddy. You will be Rewarded with 250 degree views of the Smoky’s. Go straight up the Appalachian trail. Typical terrain for At rocky and wet. 13. 5.0 Upper Tremont Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (81 reviews)
    - Best kept secret!
    Hiking Trails
Upper Tremont Road in Great Smoky Mountains National Park image
The selfish part of me does not want to share this with other travelers. The Upper Tremont Road is so quiet, so peaceful, hidden from most of the travelers. Yet, it has the most beautiful water fall, and streams. You can drive around by car. You can hike at the end of the road. You can fish by the stream, or you can sit on one of the rocks just to admire the beauty of the great smoky mountain that has to offer. There are plenty of options. I absolutely love it! See more..
  14. 4.5 The Kingsport Greenbelt (80 reviews)

    The Kingsport Greenbelt image
Really nice path that extends practically all the way through Kingsport. You have to get off at one point to go all the way but it's a great ride or walk if you just cover what extends without getting off the path. There are shady areas , deer, ducks, a creek that runs along side....paths that go up to areas to eat , or shop. So you can take a break if you want.....check out a bike shop...get coffee at Starbucks ...another point where you come up to Petsmart, Tj Max , Ross, Ashley Furniture...Chilis , Olive Garden to name a few places in that Center. We love riding our bikes there See more..

A wonderful day!!! The leaves are changing in color and falling fast. I love chasing the leaves in attempt to catch them as they fall, makes me feel like a kid again. I wore tennis shoes which is NOT the right thing to do. The leaves are wet. U have to climb many stairs which are covered in the leaves. Hand rail available as u cross over the top of the rock. Be safe and take ur time if u come to visit. I don't recommend bringing any kids to cross the rock bit they can play around it. See more..

    Crockett Park image
This is a great and beautiful park with lots of paved trails. Lots of options for parking in different areas of this large park. The only downside is summer/fall sporting events. Despite all the signs asking folks by the sports fields not to put their chairs on the paved trails or to sit on the trails, they still do, making it inconvenient for walkers, runners, and cyclists on the trails. Greenway Farms Conference Center image
I did not use the dog park. It always looks super busy. I went for a kayak launch and it's my favorite one around. There are steps down to the water and you get in and go downstream and can get out on the other side of the park. We usually take two cars and put one at the launch and one at the end point so we don't have to leave our kayaks and walk to the car. The creek is always deep year round from what we have seen and we honestly never see any other kayakers on the route. It's beautiful, peaceful and we always see lots of wildlife. Great place!t The wall picture is included because it's such an optical illusion. It looks like you are going downhill and fascinates us every time! See more..

I love this place. Unlike Bald River Falls there’s very little traffic or people. Nice place to bring lunch and your dog in hot humid August! Be careful walking. I broke my wrist soon after coming out of this fall ouch! This photo was taken in 2015. RIP Cowboy! See more..

If you enjoy beautiful trails and scenic mountains, quite solitude or romantic and budget friendly getaways I would definitely recommend this area. As newly weds, my husband and I needed to get away from the stess and chaos of covid. The area provided a perfectly tranquil respite. We stayed in the park and had enjoyed beautiful romantic walks. We could not believe how friendly and helpful the locals were and how absolutely delicious the local food was. We are on our way back this year and we plan to make this an annual trip. See more..
  21. 4.5 Rainbow Lake Trail (33 reviews)

    Rainbow Lake Trail image
Generally an easy trail, but it was muddy during December and a lot of rocks. Would highly recommend to wear hiking shoes. We didn’t get to the point where you can see the actual river as we were pretty tired from previous days of hiking and wall climbing, but it does have many places of interest along the way. There’s the dam right at the start, followed by a cave formation. Just about 20 mins past the cave formation is a rock formation that provides some good photo opportunity. We hiked up about 8-ish in the morning, which i think was a great timing for this trail. Wouldn’t recommend night hikes because it’s really rocky. See more..
  22. 4.0 Cumberland Trail, Prentice Cooper State Forest (32 reviews)
    - Stunning views!
    State Parks • Hiking Trails
Cumberland Trail, Prentice Cooper State Forest image
The Cumberland Trail has many great trails and overlooks. The total length is about 32 miles plus loops. Two very easy overlooks to access for non-hikers are Signal Point (right in the town of Signal Mountain just a few steps from the parking lot) and Snoopers Rock (also a short distance from parking). We did the hike from Snoopers Rock to Indian Rock House, just about three miles. It was a great hike though a bit tiring for our less experienced hikers, but if my 70 year old mom can make it anyone can! And the views were so worth it. See more..

  24. 5.0 Carver's Gap (29 reviews)
    - Incredible scenery from all three balds
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Carver's Gap image
This is a beautiful hike located about 90 minutes from Asheville. It made for the perfect day hike while visiting Asheville. At the parking lot, there is the option to hike the trail off to the west toward Tennessee or east in North Carolina. Hike the North Carolina section to enjoy the views from three balds in quick succession. If you do not have the legs to make it to the end of the trail, the views are quite spectacular from the first bald, Round Bald. If you choose to hike the whole trail, it is five miles round trip to hike Round Bald, Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge Bald. Do not make the mistake of stopping when you arrive at Grassy Ridge Bald. Keep following the trail all the way to the end to catch huge panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. This is a busy trail with sections that require single file hiking. See more..
  25. 4.5 Colditz Cove State Natural Area (27 reviews)
    - A Little Bit of Adventure

Colditz Cove State Natural Area image
This hike exceeded my expectations. Once you get into the hemlock forest the mood changes and the soft pine/peat-like ground sets the stage for more discoveries to come. We went clockwise on this loop and had to scramble through some big tricky boulders to get to the falls. This would be hard for smaller children and pets. For them I would suggest going counterclockwise and repeat your steps back once you reach the falls. You can see the falls from the rim, so if you are not able to hike then this would still feed your soul. See more..

    Timberland Park image
This Williamson County Park with multiple loop trails of various lengths is accessed via the Natchez Trace Parkway near the iconic Trace Bridge that spans TN 96 West — is a great place to enjoy nature and get a little education on tree’s names while you’re at it. Not much of the property is flat or level — the trails run along the tops of hillsides and ridges as well as crisscrossing the steep ravines. Trail markers are very visible — four different color blaze markers — sometimes overlapping. Benches for resting are placed throughout the park to help you catch your breath or just enjoy the sights. A Trail Office is staffed with helpful guides and maps as well as public restrooms. Park closes at 4pm during the winter months. See more..
  27. 5.0 Machine Falls Loop Trail (26 reviews)
    - Cool and refreshing
    Hiking Trails
    Machine Falls Loop Trail image
The falls are extraordinary! The water is clear and cold. The falls beautiful to stand at the bottom of or be at the top lookout. The trails were free of downed limbs but are natural so you have tree roots on them. However many places the tree roots help as a natural step or keep you from sliding. If you want to go right up to the bases of the falls where flip flops or water shoes. I took my socks and shoes off which was fine but my feet are delicate and I wished I had some to put on. My sister used a walking stick to cross the rocks with more balance. My son in his work boots had no issues crossing the rocks. There are several loops and trails with some signage and some spray paint dots on the trees. We did not get lost. See more..

Beautiful! Free! I have not been to such a nice arboretum before that was free! Wide, well-marked trails mean you don't get lost AND you don't walk into spider webs (double bonus). I used the Picture This app to identify trees and fungi not labeled. It was a good time. See more..
  29. 4.0 Jackson Falls (18 reviews)
    - Beautiful Waterfall

This is a must stop if in the area, it is on the Natchez Trace Parkway. It has restroom facilities that are very clean. The path down to the falls are paved, so it makes easy walking. No strollers or wheelchairs though, because there are some steps. This waterfall was flowing strong because there was a lot of rain in the area when we went. I highly recommend stopping here, there is a bench at the bottom, sit a while and enjoy the falls. See more..
  30. 5.0 Pocket Wilderness (17 reviews)
    - Best Hike Outside the Smokies

    Pocket Wilderness image
Beautiful easy hike relatively level terrain, lots of small children go on the first part of this hike. It is gorgeous water views and would have swimming available in the summer it has lots of rock rockclimbing places in the months where you wouldn't have to deal with snakes. The first part of this trail is 1.7 miles long. Then there is a bridge which is currently out but supposed to be replaced in 2017. The creek beyond that could possibly be waded and if so the hike continues and you can go right up Laurel Falls or you can go left for a longer hike to Snow falls. There are back country camp that's available along this hike. We will definitely return. See more..

I hope to return and spend the day here. Absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. See more..

12/29/2020; Nature at it's finest, waterfalls. We took the trail to the left or closet to the creek and that would be my preference again. There are three sets of waterfalls and at the very end where the tail ends is a double fall. Then you turn around and go back but take the trail to the left to walk the crest of the mountain to see the mountains in the distance. The age range was 70 to 9 and it was wet as it had just rained but no slips and falls. It takes about 2 hours or a little more. We got there and there were two vehicles, when we left it packed around the circle and cars parked along the road getting in as well. (Just park to the right so others may pass when exiting). When using Waze, you are directed straight to a neighborhood. Turn right into neighborhood. Park right at unmarked trail head labeled "Cascade Drive". Basically you join the path by either starting right where "Cascade Dr" says not to drive down, or go up by the main road and enter on sidewalk.. We parked on grass by woods, and walked down to an amazing stream with perfect weather. Watch out for chiggers/ and or mosquitoes- I had 3 bites from playing in the creek for less than 20 minutes. This trail is soo undisturbed that I watched two squirrels stroll right across the path. Many houses line either side of the creek, and a few people passed us on the trail. See more..

  40. 5.0 Piney Falls State Natural Area (2 reviews)
    - Wonderful waterfall and short trail
Hiking Trails • Forests • Waterfalls
This place is such a gem! Since different hikers see things differently, I'll disagree with another review here and recommend taking the left fork in order to make the steep portion uphill rather than downhill. The cables make this easier in to climb up rather than down. In any case, the trail is less than 2 miles but you'll need about two hours to enjoy being up close to the falls - and for a side trip off the trail to the smaller falls slightly downstream. This trail is easy to get to and pretty well marked. The steep portion and the upper creek crossing on the rocks makes this trail just slightly difficult, with most of the trail easy - to - moderate. There may be other reviews showing this trail in a different location, but Grandview is correct. Firetower Rd is between Grandview and Spring City. See more..

  45. 2.0 Dandridge Partnership Trail (2 reviews)
    - Fun Short Walk
    Hiking Trails
This is a unique place to go for a walk. We read the Tennessee River Valley write up on their page. It said is was a 1.2 mile out and back trail. Well we made it that distance but the trail itself is only 3/10 of a mile per their sign post and our hiking app was close to that distance traveled one way. With all of that being said it was a really fun walk in the woods and along Douglas Lake. The hike is very hilly so be aware of that. It does afford some awesome and up close views of the lake and the unique rock formations only found in this area (at least we have not seen anything like them before). The entry is pretty rough. Fortunately we have a four wheel drive SUV as it was a bit higher but still had a slight scrapage as we entered. We would not recommend a car entering the gravel road this place is located on. WE gave it 3 stars because of the distance. Really too short for a hike more of a path to get you to the lake on the end of peninsula. See more..

    - Nice Short Side Trail!

    Gold Mine Trail image
Hike 2.6 miles along the Cooper Road Trail from Abrams Creek Campground to reach the junction with The Gold Mine Trail. The Gold Mine trail is 0.8 miles and has an elevation gain of 300 feet. This trail would be considered easy to moderate by Smoky Mountain Standards. This trail is recommended during all seasons. About half way along this trail you will come to a really nice Rhododendron Tunnel. There are sections along this trail that are somewhat steep and eroded, so pay attention to your footing. The trail ends in 0.8 miles at the Park boundary and a trail sign. This is a nice short side trail. See more..
