Mountain Goat Trail, Tennessee, United States

5.0 (10 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Sewanee Hiking Trails

Relaxing hike

We started out by the war memorial cross located by the university of the south. We took the blue trail and enjoyed scenic views, waterfalls and caves. You should wear good walking shoes, comfortable clothing and bring along some bottled water. We spent only about 3 hours on the blue trail at a slow pace. This place could be an all day adventure. I hope to return and spend the day here. Absolutely beautiful and very peaceful.

    Mountain Goat Trail
The photo shown was not taken on the Mountain Goat Trail and gives a false impression of the scenery along this trail. Other reviews likewise refer to areas not a part of this trail. The Mountain Goat Trail is approximately 5 miles long (one way). It is a level paved trail. Portions of the trail wind through wooded areas, but much of it is beside roadways and not at all scenic. It is a great trail for walkers, runners and casual bicyclers, but not a place to get a taste of local mountain scenery.

Updated trail now extends to downtown Monteagle.
Flat trail good for older people on bikes or just walking. We started this trail at the University of the South and it winds around on flat ground. It is pretty long so we enjoyed it riding bikes. It is supposed to eventually end in Tracy City Tn.
