Strenuous trail - worth the effort
If you can handle a strenuous trail 1.8 miles up (3.6 miles RT) then this is a must do hike for you! We planned accordingly and the pay off of the view from the official end is totally worth it. You are NOT supposed to hike past the gate onto the actual chimney top but when we got to the top, people were on it coming down. Even if the trail was open, I would not attempt it; too treacherous. So still worth it to see the view at the end.

Sometimes you have to climb twice to see a view!
I loved this trail's beauty! Very humid during June 2020 but lovely as you climbed through what seemed like the jungle! Some may have to take their time as there are 600 steps. The vertical incline makes the heart rate skyrocket!!! I would recommend choosing a later part of the day to complete the hike so the fog can move out. When it is foggy, there is no view. Very disheartening!
