4.5Ryman Auditorium(13.7k reviews)from $35.52 - Great Historic Performance Venue Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Theaters
When you walk through the doors of historic Ryman Auditorium, one thing becomes clear right away: this isn’t just another nightly music venue, and it’s so much more than a daytime tourist stop. This place is hallowed ground. This is the exact spot where bluegrass was born—where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where souls were saved and a slice of history was nearly lost. It was right here that country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and countless careers took off as deals were signed on napkins and paper scraps backstage. Open daily for tours and shows, right in the heart of Music City.See more..

4.0The Peabody Ducks(6.326 reviews) - Best tour in Memphis Saturday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Located in Downtown Memphis, the historic luxury hotel, The Peabody Memphis, is probably best known for the Peabody Ducks. The custom first started in the 1930s as a joke by the Peabody’s General Manager, but the mallard ducks grew so popular that they became a permanent fixture, and have even been featured on television and magazines. Each morning, visitors can watch as the ducks march across a red carpet to the hotel fountain before heading back to their rooftop “Royal Duck Palace." For a truly immersive experience, you can reserve the family package for additional perks and exclusive memorabilia. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.5Market Square(2.968 reviews) - Very pleasant area! Points of Interest & Landmarks
This great area, in downtown Knoxville, offers great shopping and many places to dine. The grounds are lovely, well kept, and pedestrian only. It is a great place to just stroll. We were lucky enough to visit the weekend of the Chalk Walk. Many artists came out to create their masterpieces for all to enjoy. That was a very pleasant surprise! This square is quite popular for festivals but just as pleasant to stroll around on a lazy afternoon.See more..

The carousel machine is an antique dentzel repopulated with newer carved menagerie animals, some with Tennessee flair. The rides are only $1 and last over 4 minutes. There are rocking chairs around to sit and watch the carousel and riders. It is housed in a lovely building. My complaint is that the information found online for hours is inaccurate and there didnt seem to be a direct phone line to call and check. I called the city, and they directed me to a park link with the incorrect info. This was mostly an issue because I was an out of town visitor who really wanted to ride the carousel. The carousel has three rows of animals. The outside row does not go up and down, the inner two rows do. Really cool animals and lots of variety. Definitely support this carousel. See more..

The Crystal Shrine Grotto is located in the center of Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. It serves as the beating heart of the park and reminds those who visit that death is not the end. Those who enter the confines of the 60 foot deep man made cave don't just see the dark beauty of the cave and its eclectic artwork they can feel its magical presence all around them. Memorial Park itself was founded in 1924 by E. Clovis Hinds. He was a wealthy businessman from nearby Mississippi who had recently sold his insurance business. He became aware of a movement at the time to develop "park like" and memorial cemeteries. These cemeteries were a departure from the historical burial yards of the 1800's, which were dark and depressing places full of headstones and reminders of death. This new style known as "The Cemetery Beautiful" provided for cemeteries filled with nature, open spaces, art, pools, fountains, and well-kept plantings. The park was intended to be not merely a burial place, it was a place for memories to reside. A place to enjoy and to celebrate. He decided to develop the park in this new style and in 1935 commissioned Mexican artist Dionicio Rodriguez to construct the main features of the park. In 1938 a cave was dug into the hillside at the center of the park and work began on The Crystal Shrine Grotto. Mr. Rodriguez worked in faux bois style of concrete. Meticulously texturing and coloring surfaces to mimic natural materials like wood and stone. He was extremely secretive about his methods and was sought after as a master of this art at the time and made a good living for himself even during the depression. The cave is comprised of almost 5 tons of natural crystals hand placed onto the cave walls and ceiling. The crystals were collected from the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. Worked continued on and off until it was completed in 1955 just after Rodriguez's death. The niche art displays were not completed until the 1980's when the last of the 10 ni...See more..
4.5Elkmont Ghost Town(191 reviews) - A view of the past Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Although we have made several visits to the Great Smoky Mountains we had never visited Elkmont so that was our goal on this visit. It was very interesting being able to walk through the reconstructed cabins. These are of various sizes. There is no furniture in the cabins so you must imagine what each room was used for. Work is being done on a couple of the cabins which I imagine should be completed by next year. There is a clubhouse that can be viewed from outside. This was probably an important place for people who lived and visited Elkmont. The site is not for people using walkers or wheelchairs but it can be viewed by driving through the road. Parking is limited but adequate.See more..
I researched online and read the history of the prison before we visited, I highly recommend doing this for a better perspective. Follow the self guided tour, but don't miss the video in the out building. There are some impressive displays of home made weapons and items confiscated from inmates. I was impressed with some of the paintings that the inmates painted on the walls of the dining hall. Finish off your tour with a visit to the Brushy Mountain Distillery for a little "End of the Line" moonshine tasting. There was a $5.00 fee to taste. If you are into the Paranormal there are a episodes of Destination Fear and Ghost Asylum done here. There are also some great YouTube videos dedicated to Brushy Mountain worth watching before going.See more..

4.5Tinsley-Bible Drugstore(142 reviews) - Small town hospitality and more!! Saturday: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Saw Tinsley Bible on Facebook and we decided that we would try it. It was NO mistake going there. As soon as we entered, we were greeted. Browsed a short time and then went to the counter to order lunch. We were greeted with the friendliness people on earth. Welcomed us, asked if this was our first visit with them and did not rush us while we decided what we wanted for lunch. It felt like Aunt Bee and Andy should be walking in at any time. (this is meant to be a positive comment). Excellent food! Although this was our first visit, we were treated like "regulars". As we got up to leave, everyone told us to be sure to come back we were in the area. You can bet will go back each time we are in the area. Can't say enough great comments on this place.See more..
They have interpreted productions and a MUST see! the museum is good and the walk around is GREAT! you can also drive. It is well documented and worth a look. 4.5Krutch Park(88 reviews) - Lovely little park Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks

4.5Andrew Johnson National Cemetery(73 reviews) - A peaceful location Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
The highlight of this small cemetery is the impressive monument over the grave of President Johnson & his wife. This monument & other smaller monuments on the graves of other family members of President Johnson are surrounded by a small wrought iron fence. This cemetery is on the top of a small hill that has nice view of the surrounding area. Besides being historic, this is a nice, peaceful place to visit.See more..

4.5Diamond Gusset Jean Company(51 reviews) - Nothing but high praises! Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
I can't imagine anyone saying Diamond Gusset is bad. I still have my first pair, well over 12 years, and they are still in decent shape. These things wear like iron and will outlast other jeans 3 to 4 times over! Only jeans I'll buy anymore. I bought them originally because they were US made, now I buy them for durability. I'm wearing some right now, The picture I submitted is one of them, 4 years old and the still look new!See more..
4.0Patsy Cline Plane Crash Memorial(48 reviews) - Read the review for directions Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Because we were in the area, we wanted to pay our respect to this Country Western Great. The memorial is a very tasteful, respectful and peaceful tribute to Patsy. We entered from Camden on Mount Carmel Road traveling West. Our GPS took us to a private home. That isn’t where the memorial is located. We almost gave up, BUT DON’T. Once you arrive at the house with the large chicken coop (where GPS may take you), continue on the road about a half a mile. There will be blue signs directing you to the memorial parking lot on the north side of Mount Carmel Road. You park and take a short (1/4 mile) walk down hill (not horribly steep or strenuous) to the engraved rock where fans have left coins, rocks and other memorabilia. There are a couple of benches where you can sit. We spent about 15 minutes. All in all, it was a very worthwhile stop.See more..
4.5Hazen Brigade Monument(38 reviews) - The first Civil War monument built. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
We missed this last visit somehow. As the first Civil War monument built(1863)it was the highlight of this year’s visit. If I recall correctly Hazen’s brigade had 409 casualties and lost 29% of its force during the battle. 23,000 casualties that very day here at Stones River. Wow.See more..

4.5Columbia Town Square(27 reviews) - Awesome town square Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Historic downtown Columbia is the classic town square with the iconic courthouse, built in 1906, surrounded by vibrant shops, restaurants, a brewery, and cool places to hang out with friends. But wait, there’s more…adjacent to this beautiful downtown is the emerging Columbia Arts District and the ancestral home of U.S. President James K. Polk to the southwest and the scenic Duck River to the northeast. All this in the growing city of Columbia, population 39,000 or so. An outing in downtown Columbia promises good eats, great finds, live music and relaxing options, equally noteworthy for both the ladies and the guys. Coffee shops, vintage records, book store, barber shops, spas, boutiques, antiques and vintage finds make it worth the trip. If you’re here on the first weekend of the month, be sure to check out First Fridays for live music on the square, inside and outside the shops. And don't miss the annual tradition we celebrate here called Mule Day, happening every April.See more..
5.0Northfield Vineyards Winery(25 reviews) - A Lovely Winery Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
We stopped here on a recommendation from Calfkiller Brewery! They offered 3 tastings for free but my group did a full tasting for $5 per person. North field has a lovely selection of wines and ciders, and I would definitely recommend tasting all of their offerings. After the tasting, we ate lunch on the property (we brought our lunch - they do not sell food) and had the pleasure of dining with Bo, their beautiful Great Dane! They have beautiful grounds surrounded by fields and horses and we lived eating there. The gift shop had a selection of cheeses and local food products like honey and salsas. Everyone was friendly and we loved our stop here!See more..

5.0R.M. Brooks Gen. Mdse.(22 reviews) - A Must Stop in Tennessee Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is truly a gem hidden in the hills of Tennessee. I was driving across the country with my daughter, and we stopped in for the world famous fried bologna sandwich, shakes, and fried pies. All of it was delicious! The bologna sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. But the real gem was Tiffany and the girls working at the store. They were so welcoming and wanted to know all about our trip and how things were going. Although this was our first time there, they made us feel like we were longtime customers. RM Brooks General Store is a must stop for anyone looking to step back into time and enjoy great food and even better company.See more..
4.0Cherry Mansion(20 reviews) - Grant Headquarters at Shiloh Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Cherry Mansion is an interesting stop for people visiting Shiloh National Military Park. Grant was using the Cherry Mansion as his headquarters at the time of the Battle of Shiloh (aka Pittsburg Landing). The mansion sits near the Tennessee River. It is also where mortally wounded Union General Wallace was brought to be tended by his wife. A small lookout on the riverfront can be easily walked to from the mansion. The lookout has several plaques describing the area's significance. It does appear that tours are available by appointment. A local publication in Savannah, Tn states that the tour costs $10 per person. You can see the mansion from the street very well, so even if indoor tours aren't available, it is still worth a trip.See more..
4.5Sam Houston Historic Schoolhouse(20 reviews) - Great Experience! Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
What a wonderful little place to visit! Not only will you get a very important history lesson on the video (watch as long as you'd like), but you may be so tuned in that you'll spend a good hour and a half like we did, but the gift shop and museum area will keep you entertained as well. When you make your way out to the grounds you'll be met with a beautiful archway and well manicured landscaping. The schoolhouse itself will have you believing that you've actually stepped back in time as you sit on one of the benches with those children under the instruction of Sam Houston himself!See more..
4.0Wat Lao Buddhist Temple(19 reviews) - great to learn a little about a different culture Points of Interest & Landmarks
This was an unplanned, yet pleasant stop. We did not go into any of the buildings or even get out of our truck. We weren't even certain that we were allowed. 4.5Cedar Grove Cemetery(15 reviews) - Interesting historical markers Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
The cemetery is still interesting, but several years ago the large trees guarding the entrance were cut down, thus allowing more of the outside world in. The headstones are interesting, dating back to civil war era. Some stones are hard to read due to age. This cemetery is always clean and groomed. Great way to pass some time. At Halloween they offer a ghostly tour in civil war era attire while telling historical stories of the graveyards inhabitants. See more..

A must-see if you're driving along the leisure Rte 64 along southern Tennessee. Pulaski offers a jewel of an interpretive museum located in an old Catholic Church, moved to its new site. It recounts the history of the notorious Removal of Indians Act, opposed only by politician David Crockett (yes, the same one of the song!) who lost his seat as a result of his unpopular vote. The signage has been researched by local college students and the tale of hardships suffered by the Cherokke and other tribes certainly moved us to tears ourselves. Access provided by the local Chamber of Commerce. Free, but donations accepted.See more..
Tellico Blockhouse was constructed by the United States in 1794 and was occupied until 1807. It stands across the Little Tennessee river, at the confluence of Nine Mile Creek, from Fort Loudoun, a British fort which was in ruins by the time the Blockhouse was erected. It served as a peacekeeping force between the Cherokees and the settlers, as a trading post, and as a factory where Cherokees could learn mechanical arts and spinning and weaving cloth. The present site only lays out the foundations of the original fort and its components. It was a very important site in the on-going relations between the newly formed United States and the Cherokees, who signed treaties here ceding tracts of land in Tennessee and Georgia. It should be included in any visit to Fort Loudoun. It has ample interpretative signs.See more..

We did not know this was here, but it was a nice surprise to find this on the driving tour through the park. We did not get out to visit the Visitors Center and you could not drive to the Mounds themselves but you could walk to them. We could see 3 of the 6 mounds from our drive and they were very impressive. They are flat top ceremonial mounds much like the more famous Pinson Mounds complex and when you look at these structures, it is amazing that this much earth was moved and placed without the help of machines and were probably made using only wooden and stone tools.See more..

4.5Christopher Taylor House(9 reviews) - A wonderful summer experience! Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
As a Summer Intern in 1976, I dressed the part of a girl living in the Christopher Taylor House. The town historian, Mr. Paul Fink would visit with me and share many stories about the town's history. I loved meeting all the tourists that came to visit the beautiful town. Not until I was much older than 17 did I realize how wonderful it was to have been a part of it all! When I left at the end of the summer, Mr. Fink gave me a small clear box containing a picture of Christopher Taylor's house, a sliver of wood from the original house with a nail and a Buffalo nickel. I am 64 now and still treasure that little piece of history and the memory of the man that gave it to me!See more..
