4.5Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook(1.376 reviews) - For The Best Views Of Gatlinburg Spent < 1 hour Lookouts • Scenic Drives
The Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook offers breathtaking views of downtown Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains. The Gatlinburg Overlook is located on the Gatlinburg Bypass which runs between the Gatlinburg Spur and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Gatlinburg Spur runs between Pigeon Forge TN and Gatlinburg. The Bypass is accessible from the Spur or from the National Park. There are four parking areas on the Bypass. You can exit your vehicle and take in the views. We recommend the 2nd and 3rd parking areas. From the overlooks, you will see the entire town of Gatlinburg with its majestic mountain backdrop.See more..
This is the main route that traverses Great Smoky Mountain National Park and offers spectacular views along the way. Many places to pull off but the best views are found at Newfound Gap, Luftee Overlook, and Morton’s Overlook. Beware that there was construction when I visited last month with single lane traffic at 1 point making for some long delays if arriving during the busiest times of the day See more..
This road is well worth the drive and not nearly as crowded as Cades Cove Loop or Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. We actually saw few other cars and had no issue parking at any of the overlooks. The MAX speed limit is 35 MPH. Some of the few cars we did see were flying thru there and tailgating. I don't get that. If you are in a hurry stay on the main roads. We did not do the entire road as there is a portion that is currently closed and not due to open until 5/21/2022.See more..
Newfound Gap in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the lowest drivable pass through the Great Smoky Mountains. Standing at an elevation of 5,048 feet. Newfound Gap captures the essence of the Smokies: like the Park, it lies half in Tennessee and half in North Carolina. Newfound Gap provides wonderful mountain views atop this high ridge. Clothed in a mixture of spruce-fir and northern hardwood forests it supports a wide variety of plant and animal life. Millions of people drive through Newfound Gap annually. Also at Newfound Gap is the Rockefeller Memorial. A two-tiered stone structure, this monument is a thank you to the Rockefeller family's $5 million donation to complete the Park's land acquisition. Without this generous gift, the dream of a Great Smoky Mountains National Park would remain unfulfilled. It was at this spot in 1934 that President Roosevelt dedicated the National Park.See more..
5.0Little River Road(227 reviews) - Lots To See And Do Scenic Drives
On a trip to see fall leaves, I learned about the Cherohala Skyway and how high above sea level this scenic drive goes. Since where I was staying had mostly green trees, I took the drive. The Cherohala Skyway has a bunch of scenic overlooks in both Tennessee and North Carolina. I recommend checking out as many overlooks as you possibly can. Each view is different from each overlook. If you take the drive during fall, you get to see all stages of fall during the 50 miles on the Cherohala Skyway. I’ll definitely be back on the Cherohala Skyway when I’m in town. See more..
