4.0The Lost Sea Adventure(1.281 reviews) - A fun underground excursion Nature & Wildlife Tours
At the suggestion of a local, this reviewer was keen to see the Lost Sea cavern in Sweetwater, having visited various other caves over the years across the eastern US. The Lost Sea experience turned out to be a lot of fun. During the walk to the lake, the guide offered a wealth of information about the history of the cave and was a delight to listen to. The path itself was dimly lighted and contained slopes and stairs, but generally it was smooth and even, though in a couple of places the ceiling does get a bit low for 6-footers. There are rest areas every so often, which is a thoughtful touch since the walk seemed to be at a fairly fast pace. At the lake itself are a couple of electric boats, and visitors can see the cave fish (stocked, not natural) swimming around below. The walk back to the surface retraced the earlier path, I think. The guide did point out other cavern rooms which were available for other kinds of tours and overnight stays. A sign noted that both cameras and flash were welcome. That was nice to see, since while there was usually enough ambient lighting for taking snaps, sometimes to pull details in the distance a flash proved most handy. Next to the building's reception room is a modest gift shop, as well as restrooms. There seems to be quite a lot of parking available. Overall, this was a neat experience and another reminder of the fascinating world in the limestone caverns beneath our feet.See more..
5.0Smoky Mountain Llama Treks(943 reviews) - up close and personal Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Hiking & Camping Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
Thanks to a groupon we enjoyed the up close and personal with the llama herd - otherwise it could have been a pretty expensive meet and greet. The road in is something of trial for smaller lower cars - breeze for trucks though. The hikes....or walks in the woods are pricey enough for a family of four to feel the need for a little more.... without the groupon the pen experience would have been $60 Overall a really good experience hanging out in the llama pen listening to Steve's string of anecdotes for an hour. The event probably needs a little more structure - such as grooming and feeding. One of the visitors had heard about the llama cravings for graham crackers and that brought the time to a fitting end.See more..
A friend and I had a perfect day on the Duck River. The folks at Higher Pursuits are knowledgeable, professional and VERY customer oriented. We have used other outfitters on the Duck and other rivers and Higher Pursuits are in an elite class of their own. The premium kayaks are worth the little extra that they cost for comfort, but all of their boats are quality. Go and enjoy the beauty of a paddle on the river.See more..
5.0Pigeon River Canopy Tours(288 reviews) - Amazing, exciting & beautiful! Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks • Nature & Wildlife Tours
12 or 13 ziplines, most in the treetops across the river in the Cherokee National Forest. A lot of steps to get up to some platforms but relatively easy for a fat old guy like me... zipping back and forth across the Pigeon River was a highlight. Final zip was 1/3 of a mile, across the river reaching speeds og 55-60 mph... excellent staff- total focus on safety...See more..
5.0Appalachian Underground(189 reviews) - Good Times! Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Tours
Great experience! 4 adults in our party had a wonderful time exploring the caves! Mel and John were so knowledgeable and helpful. They let us take our time and really observe many nooks and crannies of the caves. So fun, it’s an experience we will remember forever and talk about for a long time!See more..
5.0Watauga Kayak(154 reviews) - The only local family owned outfit on the Watauga Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing • Water Sports • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Kayaking & Canoeing
After much research I chose to book with Watauga Kayak for our first ever whitewater rafting adventure. My husband, two grandsons (12&13) and myself had an amazing trip with our guide, Jerry. We booked the Explorer trip. Jerry was fun, knowledgeable about the area and sites along the river, courteous and very safety conscious. I would not even consider booking elsewhere after seeing the other outfitters on the river. Watauga has the best prices, longest amount of actual on the water time, plus it’s the only local family owned outfit on the Watauga. We stayed outside of Jonesborough at the Koa and the 30 min drive over to Elizabethton was well worth it. Whether you book their most popular trip (the classic) or splurge for the Explorer you will not regret booking with WataugaSee more..
5.0The Wandering Llamas(122 reviews) - Peaceful and breathtaking Closed now - 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Hiking & Camping Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Day Trips
This is an absolute MUST DO when in the area! Get away from the busy tourist traps and take one of these peaceful hikes with the sweetest llamas you can ever imagine! Chocolate Mousse and Carrot Top are our new best friends! Sandy is an animal lover through and through and you can tell she just adores the llamas. We can’t wait to come back in the fall to see the incredible fall colors and take another hike!See more..
What a great experience! Leah, my tour guide made sure everyone in the group had fun! Some of us got to crawl in the caverns and others got extra time for pictures. We had a small group that was friendly and enthusiastic and Leah took us on a delightfully slow journey back into history and into the depths of the earth! She is extremely knowledgable and engaging, and I decided to go to Appalachian Caverns instead of a different cavern that is more commercial and so happy that I came here! Family owned and operated and lots and lots of great gems and crystals for sale at the best prices I have ever seen. Good signage and good google maps directions made it easy to find, always a plus when traveling!See more..
Had a wonderful experience. Got the hunt for husbands birthday and the outfitter and guides did a great job accommodating a female hunter. I felt welcome and at home. Guides worked super hard getting us ducks. Saw and shot lots of ducks. Sleeping accommodations and food were fantastic. Hope to get back soon!See more..
We went Zip Lining and it was awesome... I am extremely vertigo challenged and the two young but excellent guides were wonderful. To my amazement I completed the journey and thoroughly enjoyed the eleven lines we did. Great experience and well worth it.. Thanks...See more..

4.0Parker's Outfitting(1 review) - Incredible Boat Tour of Reelfoot Lake Boat Tours • Fishing Charters & Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Day Trips Parker's business primarily serves the two most popular activities for Reelfoot Lake visitors - hunting and fishing. We, however, contacted the owner Ben seeking a boat tour of the lake for about a dozen of us who have a hiking and outdoor club. Ben was helpful, immediately enthusiastic, and happy to create exactly what we needed. He acknowledged that the weather might be unpredictable and was prepared with an alternate date - which we needed when there was heavy rain on the original date. To be clear, this was not your typical, cushy, pontoon boat cruise. Reelfoot is a shallow, swampy lake - but that's exactly what makes it uniquely beautiful. Ben had the type of boat that allowed us to the far reaches of the lake - places a typical boat or tour provider probably could or would not have gone. We saw bald eagles, a variety of ducks and other waterfowl. We saw the various kinds of vegetation and the iconic bald cypress in every variety of setting. Ben and his colleague explained what were seeing and answered our questions. Ben is clearly interested in creating all sorts of custom outings that go way beyond his bread and butter. For our needs this charter was perfect and very much worth the investment.See more..
A wonderful place to visit for a hike, if you are in the Brentwood or Franklin, Tennessee, area. I attended their guided Fall hike led by a naturalist. It was a 2 hour experience, but we only covered about 2.4 miles. However, we learned things every step of the way. The Fall colors were lovely in mid-October. For $12 this was a positive, outdoor experience.See more..
Stumbled upon this place while staying in Erwin. What a National treasure! Work being done here goes unnoticed but impacts trout fisheries across the nation. Self guided tour of the “raceways”, watched fish feeding, fed the fish and talked with one of the employees about the process. July through September is busy season fertilizing eggs so we were a little early but still enjoyed the visit. Very educational especially if you’re into Brook or Rainbow trout fishing.See more..
