    Ole Smoky Whiskey Barrelhouse image
Having been to Gatlinburg a few times over recent years, I have always noticed these "whiskey" establishments but never felt inclined to enter --- until now. I had some free time, and I thought I would treat myself to this experience. The place wasn't very crowded, and I was able to look around unimpeded. Then I decided to approach one of the bartender stations. Catalina was the employee who assisted me and another guest. She was polite and humorous as she explained the procedure for the tasting and the costs of any purchase, some of which came with a color (size of cooler dependent on number of bottles purchased). Catalina did her part in making the experience fun and enjoyable. I enjoyed the various samples. I requested a specific flavor that wasn't among the ones typically featured, and Catalina allowed me to have my request in place of one of the other flavors. When I left the station, I did make a purchase and got a complementary cooler. Give it a shot! See more..

  10. 4.5 Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., Home of George Dickel (906 reviews)
    - Excellent Tasting Experience
Sunday: 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., Home of George Dickel image
My wife and I had a great tasting experience led by Tori. She was articulate and knowledgeable, a local with ultimate authenticity but also a NY culinary background that allowed her to provide good pairings for the various George Dickel whiskeys. The tour had to have had only 5 others, so the small setting was excellent and allowed for a better experience. The gift shop had so many cool things and bottles to purchase (we bought a bunch of glasses). I’ve been to several distilleries both in the US and Scotland, and this is on-par with the top notch tasting experiences (I think highly dependent on your tasting guide though). The only downside is the distillery was closed for tours at the time which we were bummed about...but hopefully that means we’ll be back. Highly recommend regardless if you’re a whiskey connoisseur or just passing through! See more..

I have been to at least 20 distilleries in Tennessee and this is the most authentic so far. They actually distill the liquor and don't just import it and add flavor and you can tell. You can try 3 moonshine/whiskey flavors for free or 10 for $5. It is well worth trying the 10. My favorite was the apple pie. See more..

    Southern Pride Distillery image
Our History Having 20 years of experience in the distilled spirits industry, it was only a natural progression for us to apply both our experience and passion to create premium distilled spirits…..and so Southern Pride Distillery was started. A dream made real in March of 2012, Southern Pride Distillery became a small batch artisan distillery committed to producing some of the finest distilled spirits on the market today. To say that our ancestors held their families and whiskey recipes close to their hearts is an understatement. Our story starts with a great-grandmother and her Bible with the family recipe tucked safely inside the cover. Preserved by family members as all family secrets are. Distilled in a copper pot still, our products are created much like those of our ancestors. We use locally grown corn milled at the distillery and our water comes from a natural spring that is on the property. The products we offer are of the highest quality to keep the family proud! 26. 5.0 East Tennessee Distillery (30 reviews)
    - WORTH A STOP!
    Spent < 1 hour Distilleries
    East Tennessee Distillery image
This was a great way to spend an hour - especially with someone new to moonshine. Even though it is located at the back of a small industrial area, the distillery has signs to guide you all the way in. The tasting counter was clean & adequate & the server was friendly & knowledgeable about the products. We were able to sample 4 varieties of moonshine from their abundant list. My favorite was the cinnamon roll - nothing like cinnamon whiskey, but warm & comforting like a cinnamon roll fresh from the oven. I also liked the strawberry & banana, but found the watermelon quite unpleasant. They offer a discount for the purchase of multiple bottles or jars. On this recent visit, they were apologetic for having to use plastic bottles for their product as their supplier cannot currently get the glass they have always used for packaging. I will definitely return to try additional varieties next time I have an hour free around Piney Flats. See more..

I was Road tripping through northwestern Tennessee, and a local recommended that I stop at Michael Ballard‘s Full Throttle Sloonshine Distillery. It was an early afternoon during mid week, so there were only a couple of other visitors. there aren’t too many tourist attractions in that neck of the woods, so it was refreshing to have somewhere to stop and break up the long drive. They have a moonshine tasting and the woman running the store was really friendly. Not too far from Reelfoot Lake if you are visiting or camping in that area. See more..

We stopped after seeing the name on a billboard. As a FF myself, I was intrigued. There are some great FF displays. The gentleman working was very knowledgeable about the distilling process and answered all my questions. I tried 2 flavors of shine and 1 Vodka for free. There were 6 or 7 different flavors of shine. I recommend the Honey flavor. It was a bit smoother than some of the others. See more..

    Leatherwood Distillery image
Some friends and I were traveling from Nashville to Clarksville and stumbled upon this hidden gem. Andy, the owner, was an amazing and gracious host. He toured us thru the distillery and gave us a tasting. Their craft spirits were easily better than most of the whiskey "names" that you'll find out there. There's a definite reason why their product is becoming more in-demand. Andy spoke with such passion about his craft which really brought the process to life for us in a way we hadn't seen it in the 8 distilleries we'd toured previously that weekend. Love to go back again when the live music is playing instead of on a quiet afternoon. Leaving there with more bottles than we could carry, everyone in our group looked at me and said, "this place was a homerun. Great find!" See more..

    - This is a must stop attraction
    Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
I had some time between switching hotels in Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg. After doing research, I wanted to stop here and taste their moonshine. It's a short drive from Gatlinburg and worth the stop. Everyone was so friendly, and the moonshine was really good, with unique flavors. We spent a few hours having cocktails and hanging out with someone else that stopped there. They have live entertainment, a great outdoor space with corn hole, but it was raining the day we were there, so we stayed inside. If you're a fan of Moonshiner's on TV, one of the samples is Josh's Cherry Bounce. The base is JB Raider's recipe for all of their shines. We also got a pic with Kelly, Mark and his wife Sally.
