4.5Watauga Lake(108 reviews) - OUTSTANDING Bodies of Water
This lake is absolutely awesome, 102 miles of shore line. Many coves to explore, there's beaches, and camping right from the boat. We went on a Friday, and I expected it to be crowded but to my surprise it was practically empty. The young men at Lakeshore Marina were polite, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The equipment performed flawlessly and the gas was reasonable (in today's market). This was a must do for family and friends. There were just two of us on a 24' Pontoon which old have held 8+ easily. The price was exceptionally reasonable. Pack a cooler a picnic binoculars and a camera call the youngins' at Lakesore and get on it!See more..

This is actually part of the national park system so if you have kids, go to the Visitor Center and have your kids complete a booklet and get a badge before heading down to the river. The rangers there are so nice and helpful. We were here in February so the whitewater rafting and mountain climbing was out -- it was only 32 degrees out! We did go on a short walk through the woods and down to the river. Definitely beautiful even in the middle of winter. We were just on a drive through but my kids all wanted to see how wonderful it would be in the fall. One of my kids is obsessed with fishing and was begging us to let him try his hand at the river.See more..

4.0Herb Parsons Lake(19 reviews) - Great Catfish Lake Bodies of Water
Catfish heaven. If you like to catfish, this is a great lake. I prefer to jug fish; use 5 foot lines and large hooks. Catch bait fish, I use shad caught with a cast net, and cut the bait fish into large chunks, at least 3 x 3 inches. When you leave the boat dock turn left and stop at the opening of the second cove. Go into the cove about 20 yards, turn around and start dropping jugs every 30 feet while curving to the right as you leave the cove. Fish dawn till 10am or 3pm till dark. I always leave with 6-10 fish and typically catch at lease 1 fish in the 28-35 pond range. The second best spot is the deep cove straight across from the bait shop. Note: if you use anything else for bait you will not get the same results. It does matter.See more..

Great place to go and enjoy the water, playground, and picnic. We went to enjoy an afternoon on our kayaks. The water was calm and smooth so it was an easy kayaking trip. It was not crowded with only a few others on the beach. We saw one boat while there. This is part of Cordell Hull Lake and the Cumberland River system. Lots of fish were jumping out of the water and we saw several birds. We had a picnic lunch at the picnic tables, some were covered and some were not and cooled off with a swim in the lake. We paid a small fee per car to enter the area, but the day we went there was not an attendant at the booth. There is also restrooms and a boat ramp.See more..
