5.0Wynnewood State Historic Site(17 reviews) - A Step Back in Time Saturday: 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • History Museums
Wynnewood is a state historic site that includes the largest historic log structure in Tennessee. Built in 1828 by the Wynne family, the structure served as the Castalian Springs Resort for stagecoach travelers and tourists interested in the sulphur mineral springs and their reported medicinal powers, located at the base of the hill. The property came to Mrs. Almira Wynne as a bequest from her father, General James Winchester of nearby Cragfont. Almira and her husband AR moved the family into the resort and AR left his wife the management of operations while he traveled for business. The resort was also home to approximately 20-30 enslaved men, women, and children who worked at the resort and the agricultural operations on site. The Civil War ended the resort's operations, and they were not picked up again until a resurgence in 1899. The site is currently owned by the Tennessee Historical Commission and managed by nonprofit Historic Castalian Springs.See more..
5.0McLemore House(14 reviews) - Vital Historic Gem of Franklin Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Spent < 1 hour History Museums
I’ve been to most historic tours in Franklin. This was hands down the most moving and fascinating tour. It’s not just about the house, but extends to the surrounding community and generational history in that community (which is tied to our larger USA history) up until today. Christy was our tour guide and she was a walking encyclopedia of Franklin history, she was super passionate and asked questions in the tour guide that allowed you to think through the history. I’m a total fan of hers now. If you go to Carter house and Carton, definitely add on this tour to get the full colorful history of Franklin.See more..

5.0K-25 History Center(12 reviews) - Worth the detour off of I-75 Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
We were directed to the K-25 Center by a Park Ranger at the Children's Museum after she described the exhibits at that location as mainly stories about the people involved in the Manhattan project. We were looking for the history of the effort begun in the 1940s. The exhibits and the guide comments showed us what we were looking for. The museum is very near the actual site of the half mile long building where the uranium was enriched. We spent about an hour there but we went out of our trip plan to see the area which is loaded with this history. It was worth the detour.See more..

4.5Museum of Ancient Brick(7 reviews) - 12,000 year old bricks! If you're at all religious or enjoy history, GO SEE THIS Saturday: Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
Some reviewers have said it's not much. NOT TRUE. Yes, it is housed in three large glass cases, but there are probably 50 bricks. Even if there were but 10, you would want to see it. It's all a matter of what you know, I guess. For instance, there are bricks signed by Nebudchanezzer, Amenothep, Nimrod and other rulers. There are bricks from Ur, Jericho, Ephesus. More recently, you'll find a brick from a building ordered destroyed by Henry the 8th. Bricks from Colonial Williamsburg, the Mayflower, etc. There are so many I can't name them all. The nitty gritty in case you're not up on Biblical geography or time periods: you'll see bricks from buildings that would have been seen or touched by Daniel, Joshua, Abraham, Nimrod, Nebudchanezzer, The Apostles, Jesus, Greek Philosophers, Pharaohs and more. 4.0A Cowboy Town(6 reviews) - Good Fun for Family History Museums
My wife, daughter, granddaughter and I went to Cowboy Town for horseback riding. The wranglers and staff were very friendly and helpful. Horses were in great shape; obvious well taken care of. The wranglers spend time on the safety issue of horseback riding (stirrups, saddles, etc) to ensure everyone was comfortable in the saddle for a safe ride. The trail ride was good; Doc, the lead wrangler, was funny. Food was ok; fair price. The comedy gunfight was somewhat funny, but ok. Not a fancy ranch, but fun for family. Worth the time and money for a good time.See more..
