Memphis - well worthy of a visit
Slave Haven was a well worthwhile stop on our visit to Memphis. Staff was most cordial and informative. In terms of improvement I would highly recommend the ability to make reservations on line with a confirmation. Although not having anything more than an “ok, you can come at that time” I wasn’t sure that we would in fact be recognized as having a reservation. We arrived early so we were at the beginning of the pack (there was no line or reservation no.). The Art Museum was a treat with the wonderful Albrecht Durer collection. Fortunately we were able to rouse staff as they were hunkered down in the basement tornado shelter and we were battling the elements outside! All’s well that ends well. Graceland is well worth the visit as was the Civil Rights Museum & Ms Girlees Soul Food Restaurant.

I learned some things I never heard.....
This is my first Underground Railroad experience and I didn’t know what to expect. Listening to the narrator while seeing photos, real and enacted was impactful. I teared up listening to her sing Sweet Low, Sweet Chariot but when she told us what the words referenced, wow. So many secrets surrounding the venture of securing a life I can’t put into words the many emotions I felt here, in such a small house. It doesn’t take long to see this and parking is free so it’s worth your time IF you arrive at the right time to begin the narrated tour from the beginning. The entry is actually in the back of the house rather than the front.
