A Nice Relaxing Trip into Railroading History
We decided to check out the railroad and do the Missionary Ridge Local ride on our vacation to Chattanooga. We arrived about 40 minutes early, checked out the Depot store and grabbed some snacks. The staff was friendly and helpful. For our trip, a large school group was also present, but the staff grouped them on a single car (of the 3) so the rest of the guests weren't swarmed by little kids. The ride to East Chattanooga was about 3 miles and took about 15 minutes. The seats were comfortable and the information about the history of the rail line was interesting. Upon arrival at our destination, we watched a demonstration of the engine being turned around, then went to the shop to see their current projects. We then re-boarded the train for the return trip. The cost for our ride was $23 per adult (less for our 10 year old) and included museum entry as well. It was well worth it. If you have anyone in your family even remotely interested in trains (or enjoys train rides), you should check this one out.

    Terrific Halloween Activity
We took the Halloween Eerie Express (Saturday 3:30) with our 2-year-old granddaughter and had a wonderful time! The experience is exciting but not scary for young children. About half of the children (and some parents) showed up in costume. You are fine either way. The train ride to the family fun house is only about 15 minutes, so not too long for little ones. We spent an hour at the fun house where they had a variety of activities that appealed to various ages. They start that part of the experience with a storyteller (ours was very good). It gave all those excited children a chance to get settled before they chose an activity. Our little one loved the fun house - she went through twice and only hesitated at the dark room in the center. Would have gone through again if we hadn't run out of time! Before we boarded the train to return to the depot, each child got to choose a tiny pumpkin and received a treat bag. The entire event took just over 90 minutes and was worth every penny. We would gladly return next year.
