N.C.& St. L. Depot and Railroad Museum, Tennessee, United States

Excellent historical representation of our railroad heritage in Jackson.

This is a must see for anyone visiting Jackson. Jackson was once an intersection of the GM&O, IC, L&N, and the NC&StL railroads. It was the home of I B Tigrett, president of the GM&O. The main maintenance facility for the GM&O was only about a mile from this depot. Across the street is the famous "Wells" that are artesian water that supplies Jackson its pure drinking water. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, this well drew many for its reported medicinal qualities. It is still in use today.

    Interesting piece of history
This is a free museum. It has a large number of photos and rail road items. For families with children, be aware there are a lot of items on the floor, in easy reach of children. The children are catered to, especially with the HO gauge model railroad. Go early in the day, as the museum closes around 4. If you are a Railroad History Buff or have a family child who likes railroad stuff, like Thomas the Tank Engine, or interest in rails in general, it is worth the visit.
