Great Historic Performance Venue

When you walk through the doors of historic Ryman Auditorium, one thing becomes clear right away: this isn’t just another nightly music venue, and it’s so much more than a daytime tourist stop. This place is hallowed ground. This is the exact spot where bluegrass was born—where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where souls were saved and a slice of history was nearly lost. It was right here that country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and countless careers took off as deals were signed on napkins and paper scraps backstage. Open daily for tours and shows, right in the heart of Music City.

    Excellent VIP tour.
We did the VIP tour on a Wednesday's summer morning. We walk from our hotel and with the heat, we were all sweaty and red!! But no one mentioned anything! Once introduced to our guide, George, he did give us some water and pop to cool down though! We had booked the VIP tour to get all the insider info on the Ryman and its performers. We were very pleased. George was an awesome tour guide and he was very knowledgeable. While we did the standard tour, going outside and seing the secret entries to the theater and heard joint storied with Tootsies, we also spent a tremendous amount of time backstage, which is what we had hoped for. We saw dressing rooms, kitchenette, technical rooms, all the while hearing great stories and seeing videos of country music artists. We loved the prints everywhere signed by artists and hatch print keepsake that we received. I would strongly recommend, this was custumizable and we really loved it. It is about 2 hrs of walking, including steps. Then we took our picture on the stage, looked around and went to the gift shop, so plan for a good 3 hrs in the theater. Thank you for a great experience.

    Concert at the Ryman
Stopping in Nashville for one night we were lucky enough to get tickets and attend a concert at the Ryman. We saw Andrew Bird with Iron and Wine. The Ryman is celebrating it’s 130 anniversary and we wanted to go there at least once. We enjoyed the show but we were not happy with the shows timeline. The concert was scheduled for 8:00, a group of musicians not on the announced agend came out shortly after 8 and played until 8:30. Then intermission until 9:00 when Iron and Wine played for 45 minutes and another intermission before Andrew Bird started to play at roughly 10:15. The wooden pew gets pretty hard after four hours…. But hey, maybe it is a Nashville thing, maybe it is the artist thing. But it would have been better to start at 8:00 and end at 10:30 instead of 11:30. Of course you sell fewer drinks that way.. The theater was nice and we don’t regret going. The opening act was pretty good. Iron and Wine was good. Andrew Bird was Great.
