A Little Bit of Adventure

This hike exceeded my expectations. Once you get into the hemlock forest the mood changes and the soft pine/peat-like ground sets the stage for more discoveries to come. We went clockwise on this loop and had to scramble through some big tricky boulders to get to the falls. This would be hard for smaller children and pets. For them I would suggest going counterclockwise and repeat your steps back once you reach the falls. You can see the falls from the rim, so if you are not able to hike then this would still feed your soul.

    A Solo Christmas Day Hike.
Realy nice trail of about a quarter mile and I was on an incredible overlook of Northrup Falls. This hike can be done by anyone and certainly is more than worth the effort. The high bluff makes keeping an eye on pets or children imperative. The hike around the horseshoe shaped canyon to the falls has some rough and slick spots but is only moderately difficult. The falls itself is awesome. Standing near the falls, feeling the mist, hearing the roar of the water as it crashes into the rocks and cascading into the greenish/blue pool is an amazing payoff. It was stunning! The rest of the loop is very nice, with an exposed look down at the falls from beside the top of it. If you are in the Big South Fork, Pickett State Park, Rugby area or just passing through, this should be a must see place. You won't be dissappointed.

Beautiful, if you can find it!
This was very hard to find. It is not well marked, in fact, had I not read that this place also goes by the name Northrup Falls, I don't know if we ever would have found it. We drove and drove and drove and decided to turn around at the next road which was called Northrup Falls. We decided to follow the road and ultimately found the place. We visited this park with our two children ages 3 and 7 months. We used a stroller for the baby until we got to the first view of the waterfall and had to leave the stroller behind because the tree roots on the path were getting to big to push the stroller over. The trails are not marked at all. You just follow the "path". We ended up making a few wrong turns before we found a path that lead us to some rock formations that were absolutely breathtaking. We hiked down a ways and found the view to be spectacular. We ultimately reached a point that just wasn't safe for us to go any further with the children, so we headed back. Our three year old needed minimal assistance in climbing. There are sudden cliffs that are not marked, so use caution!
