A Number of Good Sites for CW Buffs

Two armies passed through Columbia on the road to Nashville. Gen Schofield Union army was retreating and Gen Hood's was chasing. Schofield stopped at Columbia and Hood tried to outflank him. A number of markers are located in the area. There are no battlefields to see, but a number of small actions occurred. Attached are a few of the markers found in the area.

    Columbia Artillery Duel
This marker on The Road To Nashville string of historical markers is easy to get to and hard to miss. It is located the plaza parking lot at 1412 Trotwood Ave in Columbia, Tennessee (Piggly Willgy market); and is at huge brick and concrete gazebo with parking right beside it. It marks the Confederate artillery placement that exchanged fire with the entrenched Union artillery almost a mile away. These markers are wheel chair height, full color and besides text include photos and maps. I like that this marker is at a high elevation that allowed me to see almost to when the Union artillery was located. Impressive.

    I love Civil War history
The Columbia, TN to Franklin, TN to Nashville, TN Civil War trail goes through several nice battlefield sites, the Carnton Plantation and the Carter House in Franklin and the battlefield sites in Nashville at the Battle for Nashville are very well kept and informative.
