4 Star Places To Visit in Maine, United States (50)
4.5Perkins Cove(2.480 reviews) - A nice reward after strolling down the Marginal Way Geologic Formations
This charming fishing village is one of the most picturesque spots in southern Maine. It’s renowned for its fresh seafood, such as lobsters, oysters, clams, and crabs, which you can catch on a private or group fishing tour. After a sumptuous seafood meal, tackle the Marginal Way, a cliff walk famous for its excellent harbor views and scenic lookouts. This coastal enclave is busiest in the summer when vacationers descend on its turquoise beaches. It’s also a haven for art lovers—check out the galleries and local boutiques selling quirky knick-knacks and handicrafts. – TripadvisorSee more..
4.5Ogunquit Beach(2.228 reviews) - What a beautiful Unique Beach! Beaches
Make sure to go at both Low and High Tides... 2 totally different experiences. My daughter and I went early morning and the sand was so wide, hardly anyone on the beach. Then went back at high tide and the river was full, everyone tubing and hardly any sand. It was crazy how it changed so much from the morning to afternoon. So fun. It is cold, but there are unexplained warm pockets. The only thing to know is that we went tubing from the river towards the ocean at high tide, and the life guards there told us to get out. At first, it scared us because we thought maybe there were sharks or something. But after we got out, he told us...that at high tide....they only let you go to a certain point so that you won't get swept out to sea and have problems getting back. Just something for everyone to be aware of. It is good they are watching and are keeping people safe.See more..
4.5Shore Path(2.009 reviews) - A captivating walk you might miss out on in the touristy din Nature & Wildlife Areas
A salute to Bar Harbor for this jewel of a walk, affording multi-million-dollar views of Frenchman Bay to all! Even on a rainy day, the seascape of rocky/kelpy shore, a wide variety of vessels on the move or secured, and wooded islands is the equal of many available in the adjacent Acadia National Park. In the other direction, magnificent estates and gardens, maintained to a widely varying degree that only adds to their charm. The interpretive signs are also lovingly maintained little works of village art. Parking at a very reasonable price can be found; just follow the signage leading you off the main tourist thoroughfares.See more..
This 41-foot lighthouse sits on the summit of Cape Neddick Nubble, a small offshore rocky islet overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. While the lighthouse and grounds aren't open to the public, you can view and snap a photo of it from Sohier Park on the mainland—there's even a small gift shop for souvenirs. Visit at sunrise or sunset for exceptionally stunning views. The holiday season is also a magical time to visit when the lighthouse is decorated with twinkling lights. Parking is free but limited, so get there early to secure a spot. Otherwise, you can also drop by on a tour of coastal Maine. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.0Old Orchard Beach(1.545 reviews) - An (almost) abandoned wonderland. Beaches • Beach & Pool Clubs
Just about everything is closed now except for a few motels, shops, and a pizza stand or two. The weather's been very warm for October and even November, so there are still tourists. About two or three year-round restaurants are open. The pier is closed but is still a pretty sight, and you can see astounding, colorful sunrises from the beach this time of year.See more..
4.5Land Bridge to Bar Island(1.376 reviews) - A MUST do in Bar Harbor Points of Interest & Landmarks
A trip to Bar Harbor without doing this, is an incomplete trip, this was totally amazing. I would go twice, go at low tide , cross the harbor and hike up Bar Island, then come a few hours later at high tide and see what happend. Once you see both views you will be totally amazed Make sure you check tidal times otherwise you can get stuck and pay $150 to get rescued. Be aware while this is free (You need the Acadia Park Pass to go to Bar Island for a great view of Fisherman's Bay) you have to pay for parking nearby ($2 an hour)See more..
4.5Old Port(1.288 reviews) - Great place to shop, dine, and see the boats on the waterfront Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Neighborhoods
The Old Port's fishing piers, cobbled streets, and historic brick buildings will transport you back in time. But the energy of the area is anything but old. It has a buzzing food scene, especially at night when locals and tourists pack into its restaurants and bars. Don't leave without having a taste of the fresh seafood in the area. Grab the ultimate lobster roll along the waterfront's Commercial Street or snag a table at any of its amazing seafood restaurants. From the port, you can take a ferry to explore the secluded islands in Casco Bay. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.5Wells Beach(952 reviews) - Wells beach in autumn Beaches
This review is for an October stay. I cant imagine the summer crowds, as we are retired and enjoy the off season. We stayed at the Lafayette hotel group 3 different times. The beach right outside the door is perfect, the people minimal, our room and ocean view perfect! Be sure to eat at The Steak House. An amazing and critic worthy establishment and a lovely memorable dinner. Sunrises over the ocean here are simply brilliant, and the crisp fall days are spectacular. Wells Diner is a perfect breakfast spot, and the little adjoining gift shop is fun and reasonably priced. Perkins cove is not far, and a walking trail is the best memory accompanying a lobster roll and a blueberry soda. Many book stores, antique shops and fun things to see in this entire area. Each year we discover new beautiful spots to marvel over .Maine in fall is a true travel experience not to be overlooked.See more..

Stargazing at Sand Beach was my 2nd most favorite activity during our visit to Acadia National Park (my favorite was hiking the Beehive Loop!). We attended a Ranger-led talk. The path is marked with little red lights like a runway to guide you to the spot on the beach for the talk; otherwise, it's scary dark out there at night! Many people are done with the visit after dark, so parking at Sand Beach was easy. Bring a blanket and enjoy the stars! You can get more information about stargazing and ranger-led programs on the National Park Service websiteSee more..
4.5Walker's Point(807 reviews) - Worth the short drive from town Scenic Drives
Walker's Point is the picturesque oceanfront estate in Kennebunkport that's been a summer retreat for the Bush family for decades, including former President George H.W. Bush. Though the estate is still a private residence of the Bush family and off-limits, you can stop by Blowing Cave Park on Ocean Avenue and the overlook to catch a glimpse of the stunning property and enjoy the crashing waves against the rocky coast. It's worth a stop if you're taking the scenic drive along the coast, where you'll be able to spot other beautiful seafront villas. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.5Eastern Promenade Trail(738 reviews) - Beautiful, large waterfront park Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
We parked along the street on Eastern Promenade. There are large beautiful homes along this street facing the park. According to signs, the park has 68 acres (I think this includes the small section designated as Fort Allen Park) and the original design was done by the Olmsted Brothers. The large grassy expanse and trails are well kept, and quite a few people were out enjoying the sunny afternoon and it felt very safe. We saw people who appeared to be gathering for a small wedding. There are benches and various historical markers scattered throughout. There are great views of Casco Bay for watching boats go by. You can see Fort Gorges out in the bay, and with binoculars you can see Bug Light, Spring Point Ledge Light, and Portland Head Light to the south.See more..

I can honestly say Casco Bay Lines crew really does go above & beyond. The classic Maine background is beautiful but you can't help but recognize the people behind the scenes. These folks work so hard everyday, moving freight & ensuring a great ride full of historical information. I ride the ferry twice a day, everyday through rain, fog or shine, I'm never disappointed & without a doubt always felt safe The thing that really sticks out the most is their sense of humor & kindness when they see fimiliar faces. I had promised my child I'd give Pig a big day out for an adventure of a life time Casco bay lines really helped achieve it today I truly couldn't ask for a better commute or a better crew 10 out of 10 pigs recommendSee more..

4.0DiMillo's Old Port Marina(626 reviews) - Good food, good service Monday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Marinas
Did a walk in on a Wednesday at 6pm and was told it would be a 45 min to an hour wait. Less than 10 minutes later we were texted our table was ready. The service was prompt and professional and the food was spot on. The Lobster Mac & Cheese did not disappoint with a crazy amount of lobster and plenty available to take home for a second meal had we not been staying at a hotel. The Haddock was also spot on and very tasty. While some have said the restaurant is touristy it seems to reason anyplace downtown near the waterfront will have lots of tourists but the main measure should be was the food and service up to expectations, in this case it was.See more..

4.5Carriage Roads(565 reviews) - Witch Hole Pond Loop and Around the Mountain Monday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Biking Trails
Walking on the Witch Hole Pond loop has become a tradition for us - we do it either on the arrival day to watch the sunset or on the last day of our trips to take a break from serious hiking. The loop has everything: tranquil ponds, ruby colors of blueberry bushes in the fall, smooth granite patches on both sides of the road, fabulous vistas of the ocean from the Paradise Hill, atmospheric stone bridge so typical for Acadia Carriage Roads, beautiful trees adorned in gold and red… Always a joy to come back for this easy 4 miles walk. Parking wasn’t a challenge last Saturday unlike completely mobbed parking lot at Jordan Pond. We also walked on the Around the Mountain carriage road up to the intersection with Asticou/Penobscot trails and then veered off to the Penobscot Mountain hike, which I highly recommend doing. The road, the bridge, and the views were spectacular along the way. If you are looking for the fall colors in Acadia, walk or bike Around the Mountain.See more..
