LL Bean in all its Glory
Multiple Bean Stores, each catering to a different section of their Catalog (i.e. Clothing, Furniture, Equipment, etc.). The complex is large and vast, the stores are staffed by friendly and helpful employees, and if you are looking for a specific item you will find it in your color, size, shape and/or unique length as long as you are willing to pay the full Bean price. Now, given the high quality and outstanding level of customer service that goes with that price that doesn't bother a lot of folks (me included), but each of the stores has a sale section where you can indeed find bargain priced items, which is good actually for those at either end of the "standard sizing" charts because the small and large sizes seem to show up in the Sale Sections in greater numbers than the average ones (naturally). If you are hunting for Bean discounts the Outlet Store in Ellsworth (near Acadia NP, albeit 2 hours north) may be what you seek. I understand there is an "outlet store" in Freeport proper too, but we did not visit so I cannot comment on it's contents of value. But no trip to Maine is really complete with a visit to Bean in Freeport, even if you don't buy anything it's worth seeing and taking that picture outside by the Big Boot.

This veteran says Thank You from the heart.
While in Maine on vacation, we did a day trip to Freeport to visit the LL Bean flagship store. Ample parking for the throngs of shoppers. The store was busy and exciting. We were greeted by many docents(?) around the store. All senior citizens. We liked them a lot. Friendly and helpful. We came for Wicked Good Slippahs, and so much more. Arriving to the register with our treasures, the wonderful woman chatted us up, while ringing in our purchases. After she gave delivered a final tally, I inquired about a discount for veterans. I hate to ask, but didn’t want to miss if it was available. She delightfully informed us that a discount of 10% would be applied towards our total purchase. Our discount paid for a pair of Wicked Good Slippers! That’s a Big-Deal in my book. Thanks LL Bean for a wonderful shopping adventure!
