5.0Frenchman Bay(387 reviews) - Paradise. Bodies of Water
When I went to the Bar Harbor side of it the weather was foggy and cool, such a nice relief from the heat and humidity. Loved the windjammers and sailboats, and there were some pretty nice yachts. There's a nice little park on the hill overlooking French Bay. I also saw Frenchman Bay from the Schoodic Peninsula, and it was equally breathtaking.See more..

5.0Eagle Lake Acadia National Park(145 reviews) - Very pretty lake and beaver pond nearby Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • National Parks
We arrived about 6:30pm on a weekday and had no trouble parking in the small lot near the north end of Eagle Lake. We walked the short trail toward the lake and saw wide gravel walking trails and directional signage but did not have time to check out these trails. We just walked down to the lake’s edge for a few photos. From the parking lot, walk east on the road a short distance to see the beaver pond. In the late afternoon light, it was very pretty and we saw two beaver lodges on opposite sides of the pond.See more..

5.0Prong Pond(37 reviews) - Serene Canoe Paddle Bodies of Water
What a pleasant surprise and one of the highlights of our stay in Moosehead Lake. We rented a canoe that was on shore - picked up paddle and PFD from NorthWoods Outfitters in town. We spent over 2 hours enjoying this beautiful lake with just the loons, a couple kayakers, a small sunfish sailboat and a fisherman. The lake has an unusual shape with many quiet coves and small islands to explore. There were some lilies and grasses, but mostly just a clear lake with a handful of cabins on its shore line. The loons were amazing - we had a group of six that we observed from a short distance preening, diving, interacting and vocalizing. Then another landed right in front of our canoe like a penguin bellyflopping on ice as he skidded across the water. It was a memorable morning just enjoying nature.See more..

4.0Pocomoonshine Lake(17 reviews) - Pristine, quiet and charming Pocomoonshine Lake Bodies of Water
Maine lake that is undiscovered by most tourists.See more..
We came across this quaint little park on our way to the Cliff Walk. It’s across from the famous York Harbor Inn and overlooks the ocean. There’s a walkway down to the Harbor Beach and a connection to the Cliff Walk, itself. There’s also an amusing rock and figurine formation dedicated to the musicians of the Taylor Swift touring band. Free street parking is available (two hour limit, I believe) which allows plenty of time to see the area. Very tranquil area devoid of the crowds invading Ogunquit's Marginal Way up north. See more..

5.0Attean Pond(12 reviews) - In the shadows of Moosehead at true Maine hidden lake Bodies of Water
Attean pond is a delightful, albeit shallow pond that truly captures the raw beauty of the upper Maine wilderness. Because it's rather shallow, it's best to explore via kayak, sup, canoe, or small skiff. The tradeoff is that you are not inundated with loud motorcraft. Folk who know the lake well could definitely get away with a larger boat such as a pontoon especially as you pass the narrows. There are a couple day trips that could be fun. Take Attean Pond Road to the end, where there is ample parking a doc and a boat launch ramp. there is a beach and hike up Sally Mountain and if you take your craft through the narrows and go all the way to the end of the pond there is a 1 mile hike to Holeb Pond. What makes Attean so great is that it's not build up. There is a small island with cabins but that's about it, there are no lake front mansions or loud speed boats disrupting the quiet. Although we missed seeing a moose, I don't see how you couldn't see one in the morning or at dusk.See more..

3.5Woodbury Pond(6 reviews) - Cute little pond Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
My hubby and I went there because it is dog friendly and we wanted to take our dog for a swim. Not much of a beach and not very clear water but overall a nice place. It is rocky in the water but the further out you go it gets better. We did encounter a snake in the water but luckily two young boys fished it out. Nice place to go if you want to take your dog for a swim but I wouldn't go back if it was just my husband and I. See more..

4.5Hunter Cove Wildlife Sanctuary(4 reviews) - Great place to Snowshoe Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails

5.0Spear Farm Estuary Preserve(3 reviews) - A Delightful Walk in the Woods Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails For a relaxing walk in the woods, it was hard to imagine a better place than here. This family-friendly, 55-acre (22.3 ha) woodland preserve offered two miles (3.2 km) of clearly marked trails. The trailhead had a map kiosk. Terrain was hilly with easy grades across woods and small fields and past salt marshes and a serene pond. Surfaces were mostly earth floor. The trails attracted walkers of all ages. A picnic table afforded a perfect place to watch shorebirds near the Royal River. Parking was in a small dirt lot on lower Bayview Street. I most enjoyed the sights and sounds of nature here; I disliked only the need to use bug spray against the ticks and early-season mosquitoes.See more..
4.0Little Ossipee Lake(2 reviews) - NH's Ossipee Lake's little sibling. Bodies of Water I've driven by this lake often when traveling from Saco to Cornish and further north. 4.0Kennebunk Pond(2 reviews) - Great little pond to visit. Warm waters to swim in. Bodies of Water Great little beach area, nice and shallow for a long distance so it's accommodating for the young ones. 5.0Presumpscot River(2 reviews) - Historic River Flows From Sebago Lake to Casco Bay Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water
This was a unexpected find! Without some of the mills and dams it once had, the section of this river through Falmouth was a kayaker’s and birder’s dream. The river’s headwaters were at Sebago Lake; its estuary and outlet were at Casco Bay. Along its course through town, we saw ducks, geese, herons, and other birds. Above the lower falls, several persons waded in its murky waters. Those waters were fairly clean, but not pristine. Above the waterfalls, river access was on Blackstrap Road or Gray Road; below the falls, access was on Allen Avenue Extension. A portage place past the falls was at the Presumpscot River Preserve. We liked all that we found here; we disliked nothing.See more..

5.0Flying Pond(1 review) - Beautiful part of Vienna and the Belgrade Lakes. Bodies of Water
This pond is a little jewel in the Belgrade Lakes region near the village of Vienna. The lookout is off Route 41, and there's a public boat ramp. It's a great pond for fishing for bass and smelt and is also stocked with brook trout. Or, you can just float around in your boat and enjoy the tranquility. There are a few parking spaces along the road to stop and admire the beautiful view like we did.See more..
