  2. 4.5 Belfast Harborwalk (293 reviews)
    - A nice, flat, even surface with interesting views.

    Belfast Harborwalk image
We walked from ne end to the other and were blessed with great weather, interesting views of Belfast Harbor, and friendly chats with strangers. We got to see the working shipyard in action as it was removing a large sailboat from the harbor to its winter storage, using a giant crane with slings. We were also treated to their annual Chalk Walk where people create art with colorful chalk along the cement portion of the Harborwalk. This is a fun place to visit whether you are in a stroller, running on little feet, walking as an adult or even in a wheelchair. See more..
  3. 4.5 Cliff Walk (267 reviews)
    - Short hike on a very scenic and narrow path. Wear good hiking shoes !

    Cliff Walk image
My wife, Dog and I ventured out onto this wonderful, short cliff walk which was just enough on a hot day. Beautiful views of the beach area of York, crystal clear waters of Maine want to make you jump in from the cliffs; and if you are adventurous enough as well as in decent shape, you can do just that with a little climbing down onto the rocks and then into the water. The whole walk is about an hour there and back to the parking lot. Its a little hard to find; go to York beach, as you are facing the bathrooms with the beach to your back, look right and you will find the pathway. Keep in mind this path is VERY NARROW and thin in some parts so I would not recommend this trip for smaller children. The end of this path has a beach where our Dog and I jumped into the water to cool off. See more..

  6. 5.0 Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway (4 reviews)
    - One of the Most Scenic Drives in All of Maine
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Scenic Walking Areas
Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway image
This two-lane, mostly rural, 35.6-mile (57.3 km) scenic byway was on segments of ME 17, ME 16, and ME 4. It spanned from Houghton to Madrid. I drove the segments from Houghton to Rangeley. Among its many highlights were the Height of Land Overlook, the Rangeley Lakes Overlook, Oquossoc village, the Wilhelm Reich Museum, and the Rangeley Historical Society Museum. I most enjoyed the panoramic vistas at the overlooks, but I was thrilled with all that I saw on my early summer weekend drive; I suspect others will feel the same if they explore this byway. 7. 5.0 Brewer Riverwalk (2 reviews)
    - lovely spot for a stroll

Opposite the Bangor Riverwalk, this patch of path is a super spot for a stroll. It starts at Mason's and continues through a bridge abutment, which is kind of cool, and winds along the river for a bit. See more..
  8. 4.5 Martin's Point Bridge (2 reviews)
    - “Graceful Bicyclist-Friendly Bridge Spans the Presumpscot River”
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
Finally, a bridge built with walkers and bicyclists in mind! Completed in 2014, the new Martin’s Point Bridge crosses the Presumpscot River from Falmouth to Portland. It replaces an older bridge (1943) that replaced another bridge (1868) that replaced the first bridge (1828) here. The new bridge is 1,403 feet (427.6 m) long. It’s a sleek and graceful, 10-span, steel and concrete structure. It has multi-use paths on either side of its traffic lanes. It also has two decks for observing river wildlife. Plaques explain the bridge’s history. A large sculpture of an osprey and its nest is on the bridge’s northern end. The bridge is viewable from the northerly beach of 100-acre (40.5 ha) Mackworth Island State Park (fees). It’s also viewable from the looping, paved 0.25-mile (0.4 km) Martin’s Point Trail, where bridge fans can find parking. The bridge’s observation decks, plaques, and sculpture – as well as the engineering – all make it worth a look. See more..
  9. 5.0 Carrabassett Valley Rest Area (1 review)
    - Scenic Stop on the Carrabassett River
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Scenic Walking Areas
This was a scenic and pleasant stop beside the wild Carrabassett River along ME 17 just south of the Sugarloaf ski resort area. It had picnic tables, clean rest facilities, and several interpretive displays. Parking was in a large paved lot. Although scenic enough in high summer, the stop will be breathtaking when fall foliage peaks. I liked all that I saw here; I disliked nothing. See more..
  10. 5.0 Sebago Lake Station Landing (1 review)
    - Exceptionally Scenic Public Boat Landing on Sebago Lake
Spent < 1 hour Scenic Walking Areas
    Sebago Lake Station Landing image
This popular, town-operated landing had few amenities for visitors. It had one dock for launching and landing boats as well as a small, sandy beach. Signs warned sternly not to have body contact with the water since the beach is near the primary water intake for Portland and its environs. Parking was in a large, paved lot, most of which was dedicated to vehicles and boat trailers. The landing charged differentiated daily parking fees for resident and non-resident boaters, but it also had several free, one-hour spaces for scenic viewing. The landing afforded excellent and expansive scenic views northwards across Sebago Lake and nearby Frye Island. I appreciated the unique views of Sebago Lake; I disliked nothing. See more..
  11. 5.0 One Blue Sky Mural (1 review)
    - This mural has an interesting story.
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
    One Blue Sky Mural image
I've driven by this eye-catching mural hundreds of times since moving to the Saco/Biddeford area and finally found out what it means. The boy is making a phonecall to a little girl in Slemani, Iraq (where the corresponding mural actually is). The fence symbolizes the barriers between each country and the fence opening represents communication. The project was commissioned by Boston's Good Works Foundation to "encourage cross-country bridge-building among youths to foster empathy and friendship". You can find out more about it in AtlasObscura. See more..
  12. 5.0 Table Rock Arts Center-TRAC (1 review)
    - Amazing Art Gallery near Sunday River!
Monday: Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Table Rock Arts Center (TRAC) is a wonderful addition to the community of Bethel, ME. We love to stop here on our adventures to/from Sunday River because of the diverse artwork on display. Local and regional artists from Western Maine and various parts of New England have created some unique and beautiful pieces and you'll want to visit often to see the new art that arrives each month. Oh and the prices are very affordable for any budget. Amy Halsted and the artists working at the gallery are very friendly and easy to approach. I always feel energized by my visit to TRAC and have been lucky enough to stop by during a couple of their gatherings. They are very welcoming and the space is very peaceful. See more..
