Enjoyed spending few hours by the falls. We found a nice flat rock to spread blankets and enjoyed picnic. It does get a big crowded and noisy at times. If you are get tired if water water, you can walk Thru the woods. There are many pathways, all running into each other and essentially leading to the same destination. See more..
  2. 4.5 Screw Auger Falls (72 reviews)
    - Easy Walk to the Falls
    Waterfalls
    Screw Auger Falls image
We drove to Screw Auger Falls in the morning from our B&B. The upper falls is a short, easy walk from the parking lot. You can walk out on the rocks and get next to the upper falls. There is a short trail for a view of the lower falls. You must climb over several uneven large boulders to get a better view of the lower falls from the top. I would not recommend this climb over the rocks for people not stable on their feet. We came back for a picnic lunch after a visit to the Sunday River Bridge. There are several picnic tables available along the scenic creek leading to the falls. See more..
  3. 4.5 Angel Falls (50 reviews)
    - Beautiful but not maintained
    Waterfalls
    Angel Falls image
Beautiful hike and view, but you should know what to expect! The last 5 miles or so drive is unpaved, sometimes rocky roads. The parking lot is down a steep dirt road, as well. The hike involves crossing a stream a few times, and some climbing up lots of large rocks- definitely can do it with the right children and dogs, but we saw a group attempt with a very little dog that had to turn back. The falls were gorgeous, however this is not a very manicured or maintained area. We had to climb over several piles of sticks/logs, and sadly there was a dead moose right in the middle of the falls when we got there. Several people had jumped in or even drank the water before seeing it so definitely take precautions and NEVER drink untreated water! All in all, a somewhat challenging and beautiful off the beaten path hike- but best to be prepared! See more..
  4. 4.5 Cascade Stream Gorge Trail (49 reviews)
    - Excellent Family Hike
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Cascade Stream Gorge Trail image
Find Cascade Stream Gorge in Sandy River Plantation. The 1-mile trail leads into the 90-foot deep gorge of Cascade Stream, providing access to a series of waterfalls and chutes. The trail leaves from the south side of the parking area. Look for white blazes. Shortly after leaving the parking lot, the trail passes under a power line, continues into the woods and along the stream, and eventually connects with the Fly Rod Crosby Trail. There are several good viewpoints of the stream and falls along the trail, which at several points follows the bedrock on the side of the gorge. Recreation Opportunities Artists Trail, Public Access, Trail, Water Access, Waterfall Conservation Story RLHT purchased the 28-acre Cascade Stream Gorge Conservation Area in 1999. Cascades is on the Maine Registry of Critical Areas for its unique natural and geologic features and wilderness qualities. See more..
  5. 4.0 Rumford Falls (33 reviews)
    - Stop it's Paul and Blue!!
    Waterfalls
    Rumford Falls image
I'm a sucker for quirky roadside attractions. Seen a few Paul Bunyan statues in various places but this one had Blue too. Saw this and made a quick stop, needed gas anyways at least that's how I explained to my wife. Definitely a fun spot. The falls themselves are right behind but they weren't very active when we were there, so not very noticeable in our photo. Loved this though, worth a stop for Paul and Blue. See more..
  6. 4.5 Houston Brook Falls (26 reviews)
    - Nice Waterfall by Wyman Lake
    Waterfalls
    Houston Brook Falls image
We stopped at Houston Brook Falls with our dog after visiting Moxie Falls. It's not quite as impressive, but also a lot less crowded. Parking is along Pleasant Ridge Road at the Transfer Station, be sure not to block the gate. A short easy trail leads through the woods down to the waterfall. The water level was low when we visited, but we could easily hop around on the rocks at the base. There are also some nice swimholes in the creek above the falls. It's a really nice spot and pretty waterfall and worth a visit if in the area. See more..

  8. 4.0 Cascade Falls (13 reviews)
    - Beautiful Waterfall Close to the Coast
    Waterfalls
    Cascade Falls image
We made a stop at Cascade Falls on our way to Portland. A short trail leads from the parking area down to the falls, go right at any intersections. The last part is a little steep but not bad. We visited shortly after Hurricane Henri, so the water level was way up and the falls were very impressive. There's a lot of downed trees near the base so I had to scramble around on the rocks for a good picture. It looks like there used to be a bridge across the creek below the falls but it has been washed out. I had to wade to get to the other side. There are some cool cliffs above the falls if you can get to the other side. Overall, a beautiful spot and definitely worth a stop if passing through the area. See more..
  9. 5.0 Grand Falls (8 reviews)
    - Grand Falls is gorgeous ! A must see if you love water falls !
Spent More than 3 hours Waterfalls
    Grand Falls image
Thank you Mark, Neida and Remi for your posts. We made the trip from Moxie Falls to Grand Falls. We followed Mark and Neida's directions and found it easily. The only thing I have to add is at 12 miles look for the yellow arrow pointing towards the road the falls is on. We made the mistake and thought it was a ATV trail and continued a little further. If you go too far you will know it. The road has a lot baby pine trees and thick grass growing in the middle . It's hard to turn around in an SUV. When you hit 12 miles look for the yellow sign with the arrow on it . Across the street on the right from the porta potties is the road to the falls, If you have a truck or a larger SUV you can make it easily down to the parking lot on the left. We made the trip in a GMC Acadia just fine. It truly is one of the local fishermen's best kept secrets. The trail to the top of the falls has a staircase made out of rocks . A little climbing but fairly easy. The trail is marked very well. See more..
  10. 3.0 Kezar Falls (4 reviews)
    - Off the beaten path waterfall
    Waterfalls
    Kezar Falls image
Half the battle may be finding Kezar falls, but when you do you are rewarded with a short hike and a beautiful waterfall cut into the rock. It seems to be a series of "potholes" connected, and if it were warmer might have made for some great swimming. I stayed on the top of the rocks, and there are some chain link fencing to try and keep you from getting into to much trouble. If I had more time or lived in the area, I might have climbed down and explored the falls from the base. See more..
  11. 5.0 Frenchman’s Hole (4 reviews)
    - Great diving and natural water slide spot
    Waterfalls
    Frenchman’s Hole image
It was quite busy but lots of fun. Everyone was jumping from both the lower and higher jumps feet first they are respectively about 15 to 20 feet. After finding it was 18 feet deep with no rocks and a sand base (per a local who had a friend who did scuba diving practice here) i did my first jump. I jumped as far away from the rocks as possible. I could not touch the bottom with my feet so the next jump was from the higher one and was hands first dive. I arched my body upwards aftet I went in so I quickly came back up. The cool water was very refreshing. There is a rope that helps you climb back up. I did the slide last because I was aware that you want to stay away from the walls. Beware of the most dangerous things at this place the unassuming slick black rocks with moss on them when you are only up to your knees in water. Do not go exploring upsteam in the shallow water, unless you are going to crawl. There is a danger of slipping in the shallow water. See more..
  12. 4.0 Mosher Hill Falls (3 reviews)
    - Short hike, great waterfall, especially in the spring when the water is flowing strong!

    Mosher Hill Falls image
Short hike to a beautiful waterfall. Go down left side of the stream for the best view and check out the right side to see the falls from the top...but be careful at the top and don't get too close to the edge! See more..
  13. 4.0 Ellis Falls (2 reviews)
    - Lovely but Hidden Roadside Falls
    Spent < 1 hour Waterfalls
    Ellis Falls image
This enchanting roadside falls is impossible to see when traveling north on 120 towards Andover. But while traveling south, it is just before the turnoff for Ellis Pond. Look for Fire Lane 531 on the left, then another road to the left. Immediately after that road is a guard rail on the right with two spaces to pull off the road. THAT is Ellis Falls. It is a lovely two plunge falls, narrow but steep. The first drop is easy to see, but the second requires a downhill scramble. Still, if you can find it, it is worth a visit. See more..
  14. 5.0 Tobey Falls (1 review)
    - Natural beauty
    Waterfalls
Lovely place to see. 1 picnic table & no bathroom. There are 2 falls here. The first one the rocks are smooth enough to slide down. The 2nd one you can either walk the trail to or walk up the stream. The falls are small but pretty. My picture is of the 2nd fall. See more..
  15. 4.0 Saccarappa Falls (1 review)
    - STILL IMPRESSIVE EVEN AFTER DAM REMOVAL
    Spent < 1 hour Waterfalls
    Saccarappa Falls image
The Saccarappa Falls on the Presumpscot River got their name from Native Americans. The name meant: falling toward the rising sun. And, at that point, the river and the falls are, in fact, heading east. There was a dam there, but it was removed a few years ago to allow and aid fish migration up the river. But, that didn’t completely eliminate the falls. Today, the downward-sloping topography of the land and the rocky riverbed maintain rapids and cascading waterfalls. At the time of my visit, the river had fast-flowing water after rain which made for an impressive sight that’s not to be missed. Although not a high waterfall, the length of the rapids and cascades is noteworthy. I rate my experience at Saccarappa Falls at 4.50. The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews. If you found this review useful, please click HELPFUL. See more..
