    - Lovely place for a fall hike
    State Parks
    Bradbury Mountain State Park image
A short but steep hike to the summit rewarded us with a fantastic view. From the summit, we took the Tote Road loop to the Northern Loop. There were lots of families with dogs and children on the latter as it's fairly flat and wide. The trails are well-marked, but the blaze colors don't match up with what is on the maps. Overall a great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the fall foliage! See more..

    Sebago Lake State Park image
Gem in Sebago Lake. They even run a lock to allow boats to move between the lake and the river. You can watch them working the lock and turning the bridge fir boats. Good for a system that was built nearly 200 years ago. The campground was great. I booked a campsite at the last moment, had very few choices and was worried. The site turned out to be fantastic, the bathrooms super clean, the biking good and rates very reasonable. See more..

Our grounds and trails are open every day of the year from Sunrise to Sunset. Please refer to our website for our Visitor Center Hours. Over 200 labeled species of trees, shrubs and "Space Trees" (from seed that traveled on the Space Shuttle) are on display at this 224-acre garden. There are six miles of trails, all marked and signed, and the largest outdoor sculpture display in Maine. Trail maps are available at the trailhead kiosk. A good introductory trail is the one to Viles Pond, which takes one through the hosta garden, past the rock garden, and to Viles Pond, often alive with birds, dragonflies, and frogs croaking. Depending on how long one lingers to enjoy the sights, this one mile trail takes about 45 minutes. Dogs are allowed on the trails, on a leash at all times. Pet owners must pick up after their dogs. 16. 4.5 Rangeley Lake State Park (48 reviews)
    - No Entry Needed

    Rangeley Lake State Park image
While visiting Maine, my son and I wanted to take a trip to Rangeley Lake State Park. You follow alongside the lake while working your way towards the Park's entrance. Unfortunately the Park was closed when we arrived (I believe due to season). But we weren't disappointed. Along the route you are able to see many gorgeous views of the lake and its shorelines. We were still able to enjoy what the Lake has to offer, even outside the Park's borders. The ride even outside of the Lake side is beautiful. The trees are endless and Maine's country-side beauty can be seen as far as the eye allows. There are also other Lakes and Rivers available to enjoy that are outside of the Park. See more..
  17. 4.5 Aroostook State Park (44 reviews)
    - Relaxing Echo Lake and Trails

    Aroostook State Park image
Just before arriving In Presque Isle, ME on the left is the road that goes to the park if you are heading south from Presque Isle there is a 3 mile and then 2 mile sign but they are misleading as that is the total distance to the park from that spot not to the road that leads off of Rte 1 so look close for the arrow sign that points you there. (Or use GPS) It is a beautiful ride to the park through rolling hills. Once at the park usually there is a “Ranger” there to greet you and collect the fees. If you are a Maine Resident seniors are Free other seniors only pay $1. Rates slightly higher for older people but not too much. We just drove in and spent an hour at Echo lake watching the boats pass by and enjoying cool summer breezes. There are several hiking trails including a very steep trail to the top of a hill with great views ( i previously did limb this hill and remember it being very steep ). A nature trail also at the parking area is much less steep. See more..
  18. 4.0 Scarborough Beach State Park (44 reviews)
    - A quick get away before summer is over

    Scarborough Beach State Park image
We stopped over night on our way to Bar Harbor and took a walk along the beach. It was like having a private beach all to ourselves, the weather was unsettled that afternoon, so the beach was empty. The water was warm. My 15 year old daughter was doing cartwheels on the way sand. There were the sweetest baby seagulls running around. See more..
  19. 4.5 Range Ponds State park (37 reviews)
    - very nice state park with lovely beach

    Range Ponds State park image
We really enjoyed a day trip to this great state park. There is a lengthy beach with wheelchair accessibility. There is a playground. The beach is sandy and the water was very nice -- not terribly cold. There are restrooms and changing rooms. We went on a weekday and there were quite a few people, including large groups of day camp kids, but I could not call it 'crowded.' Picnic tables appeared a little scarce at first, but later I took a walk and noticed they extended well into the wooded areas a bit away from the beach -- nice if you want more shade, peace and quiet. You can put in your canoe or kayak but as another reviewer said, that area is quiet busy. You can sit in the wooded area, on sandy beach or on the grass. There is a second beach which we could see across the water but we did not visit it. I would definitely return to this park and may consider camping in the area in order to visit there for multiple days of a vacation. See more..

    Mount Kineo State Park image
The Indian Trail is steep, so be prepared. However, the views up are amazing and worth the work. Go down the Bridle Trail. It's not as hard, but is totally in the woods. However, it also has its own beauty. The fire tower at the top is provides views that go for miles. The trails are very well maintained and clearly marked. This hike did not disappoint. See more..
