    - Really pretty place with good trails

    Hamilton House image
Shipping merchant Jonathan Hamilton built this striking Georgian mansion c. 1785. Its picturesque situation on a bluff overlooking the Salmon Falls River made it an ideal location for Hamilton’s shipping business and, more than a hundred years later, for the summer retreat of Emily Tyson and her stepdaughter Elise.Today, Hamilton House reflects the occupancy of the Tysons in the early twentieth century and is recognized as one of the region's quintessential Colonial Revival-style country estates. The house features two whimsical murals commissioned by the women as well as antique furnishings and handcrafted decorative arts they collected. The elaborate perennial garden, with its charming garden cottage, provides visitors with a place to stroll and picnic overlooking the river. Please visit nearby Jackson House, Governor John Langdon House, Rundlet-May House, Sarah Orne Jewett House, and the Sayward-Wheeler House. See more..

    Sarah Orne Jewett House image
Writer Sarah Orne Jewett, author of THE COUNTRY OF THE POINTED FIRS, spent much of her life in this stately Georgian residence, owned by her family since 1819. Jewett drew on the house for inspiration for her novel DEEPHAVEN and often wrote at the desk in the upper hall overlooking the active town center.Jewett and her older sister Mary inherited the house in 1887. Decorating the house for their own use, the sisters expressed both a pride in their family's past and their own independent, sophisticated tastes. The result is an eclectic blend of eighteenth-century architecture, antiques, and old wallpapers with furnishings showing the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement. See more..

    Moore Manor Lavender image
My visit to Moore Manor Lavender farm was so peaceful. They have seating scattered around the property for you to take in the sounds of nature and to smell the lavender. I loved listening to the crickets chirping. You can pick your own lavender for a small fee or choose from pre-picked swags. Their tiny gift shop was so adorable and packed full of lavender themed souvenirs. From soaps to t-shirts. Make sure you open the mini fridge to find a little sweet treasure. I found the best, melt in your mouth, lemon lavender shortbread cookies. Yum! See more..
  10. 4.0 Warren Memorial Sculpture Garden (1 review)
    - INTERESTING SCULPTURE GARDEN IN DOWNTOWN
    Spent < 1 hour Gardens
    Warren Memorial Sculpture Garden image
Driving down Main Street, I spotted a magnificent tree in a park. I found a place to park my car and walked back to it. The tree was in the Warren Memorial Sculpture Garden. Near the street, the first sculpture to get my attention was Pinecones by Patrick Plourde. It consisted of three pinecones made with rusted metal. They were quite large – about the size of the average 5½-foot Christmas tree. Two were standing up; one was on its side. Two modern art pieces of interest were Totem and Crocodile. They appeared to be done in granite by Hugh Lassen. Both were sort of freeform interpretations. My favorite was Angel by Lise Becu. Although small, I thought it was quite nice. After looking at the sculptures and the fabulous tree near the center of the park, I walked over to the Westbrook Mural on the side of building that borders the park on the west side. I rate the Warren Memorial Sculpture Garden at 4.25. The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews.
