5.0Ogunquit Playhouse(1.041 reviews) - Young Frankenstein, "outdoors" for a fun experience.... Theaters
Wow, we saw "Young Frankenstein" at the "outdoor" tent at the Ogunquit Playhouse and were impressed with the venue and production. We've never sat inside, so can't compare, but it felt that they created a first rate theater experience under the tent. Lighting, sound and stage were excellent. We saw a matinee on a chilly afternoon, so I can see that it could get pretty cold for the evening performances. They leave the large doors open so there is plenty of airflow and masks are required. This was our first theater experience since the pandemic began, and we felt very comfortable. The production itself was a hoot, and even better than the movie. It was a musical, not my favorite genre, but this really worked, Talented performers, made for a fun and memorable evening. Do not hesitate!!See more..

I don't care for the new set up the pit was way too small during Megadeth and FFDP needed to be bigger with the amount of people in there. I didn't like getting elbow at every second it was annoying more than anything. I wanted to enjoy the show not put up with some drunk jerk.See more..
5.0Stone Mountain Arts Center(99 reviews) - In the actual middle nowhere, this place is astounding Theaters
So you're in the no-where backwater of Brownfield, Maine and here, on top of a mountain, on a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere is this great big barn with a bar, restaurant and nightclub. It's a shock to the system. When you park you might be attacked by a goose or a wild turkey. You could see a bear. You're in the woods. And then you get inside. It's really a culture shock. Big bar, great variety and large open area with balconies for watching relatively popular and mid-name bands and groups you would never expect, such as Alanis Morrisette. All kinds of music is programmed here; no seat is bad, you are close up to the band in a way you never would be in Boston; there is waitress service to every table (and they encourage you to get a beer). It's surreal that this excellent place is here. Who woulda thunk it? Truly amazing. They also have flea markets, antique shows and craft festivals and other events at this place.See more..

A gracious, historic barn, Vinegar Hill is an intimate venue that provides entertainers with a superlative, vibrant setting to showcase their talents. Featuring a variety of genres, like cabaret, classical, rock, folk, and blues, Vinegar Hill Music Theatre resides in the former Arundel Barn Playhouse, a timber barn known as the Smith Sister’s Farm. Located in an area of Kennebunkport’s Arundel, historically known as Vinegar Hill, the venue’s name honors that history. Is there anything better than a full bar and menu while watching the newest Marvel movie?! No, the answer is no. Waiter was very friendly and accommodating. The Cinema would be great for office presentation or birthday parties. The couch potato skins were AMAZING, and the pitchers are 14.95 and make roughly four glasses so prices are reasonable.See more..

We attend a play once or twice a year at this theatre. Our first time, we were shocked! In the quiet, empty city center of Biddeford, who would have know there’s this amazing theatre! It’s the Best and the performances are sensational! The performers are local people but you’d think they were from Broadway (which we visit several times a yr). If you haven’t experienced a play here, you must!!See more..

4.0Lakewood Theater(28 reviews) - Charming local theater Theaters
Beautiful old theater. Charming architecture. Rustic surroundings. We were surprised by the box seats and found them weirdly designed. We had a waiter who brought us water and a fabulous dessert from the restaurant next door. The seats were antiques so sort of hard to sit in. The play was just ok. Some of the actors were hard to hear. It was hot! No air. Bring a fan. I would still recommend this playhouse.See more..

4.5The Skowhegan Strand Cinema(22 reviews) - Nostalgic Theater with modern equipment Movie Theaters We were staying in a nearby motel and looking for something to do in the early evening. My 9 year old granddaughter and I went to the Strand to see the new Dumbo movie. I was in awe after entering the theater. It was like stepping back into history. It is so unique and the price was a third of the price in southern Maine with all first run current movies. My granddaughter says it was the best movie popcorn she’d ever had! Snacks are also much less than I’m accustomed to paying. It was a fabulous experience start to finish!See more..

My fiancé and I bought a vacation and rental home in Bethel. To our surprise this theater is quite a Gem! The movie tickets at $8 are very affordable and the popcorn and refreshments are offered at great prices as well. We went and saw the latest attraction “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” while many were attending the newest attraction: Incredibles. This theater is meticulously clean and a feeling back in time of quaint family local theaters. I highly recommend if you are staying in the area!! The women running it that evening were very friendly and welcoming. See more..

4.5Mad Horse Theatre Company(5 reviews) - Mad Horse consistently delivers quality performances that make you think Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
In the interest of full disclosure -- after being a fan and patron of Mad Horse Theatre for 20 years, I recently joined its board (my first & only board experience). That's how much I appreciate the amazing work this small but mighty non-profit does. I can't count the number of times I have left a Mad Horse production saying, "In the hands of lesser actors, that play would not have been fun to watch." Mad Horse chooses material that is sometimes challenging and always makes you think. It's a little off the beaten path, but with Elsmere BBQ, Otto pizza and Saltwater Grille in the neighborhood, it's easy to make a night of it! See more..
4.0Spotlight Cinemas(3 reviews) - A Bargain by Any Standard Movie Theaters On a rainy vacation day we opted for a Matinee Movie before dinner and were delighted to find Spotlight. Matinee tickets for a 4PM movie were under $15 (for 2 people) and an armful of snacks were comparably priced. An absolute bargain for a first run movie in any theater and especially in Maine were things tend to be above national average cost wise. The theaters were small (maybe 100+ seats in our theater) but if you can survive for 2 hours without sitting in a Lazy Boy you'll be fine.See more..
4.0Saco River Theatre(2 reviews) - Consistently high-quality performances, quaint venue! Theaters I first attended a performance at Saco River Theatre about fifteen years ago and have never been disappointed since! It is worth getting on their email list to stay abreast of their wonderful variety of musical and theatrical offerings. The venue was built in the late 1800s as a Universalist chapel and later used as a Grange Hall before becoming home to SRT. It is scenically located on the banks of the Saco River, best visible in the spring before full foliage.See more..

Denmark Arts Center is an old grange building turned into gallery, performance, theater, music, dance center and brings courses, workshops and local and international artists together with the community in western Maine and North Conway area of NH. In the fall, I was treated to a dance performance by a local duo Hio Ridge Dance. another weekend I saw some Turkish music in a cabaret setting BYOB with art on the walls produced during a recent workshop. I will be in the area early April and plan to stop by on the night they have a famous Cretan musician who played at Carnegie Hall earlier this year. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, feeling like neighbors getting together. A true treasure hidden in rural Maine. Excellent website with detailed calendar.See more..

Located on the campus of Fryeburg Academy, the Leura Hill Eastman Performance Theatre is a great place to take in a play, live performance or simulcast of an opera. We usually attend the Metropolitan Opera 'Live In HD' simulcasts here. The seats are spacious & comfortable, the facility is clean, and there is light food served before the performance. The nice part is the tickets can be purchased online directly, and you can select your exact seat location. Leave some extra time to visit the Pace Gallery Of Art, right in the same building.See more..
This is a brand new venue still under construction. It is located downtown. Venue is really with nice sight lines that are good from any seat. There is a small artificial hill that is open”seating” with blankets but it’s tight and people just stand. Parking is a big issue. If you can reserve a garage space before, do it it will save you headaches .See more..
3.5The Portland Players(2 reviews) - Old playhouse with lots of history in the area, showing its age, and no parking Spent 2-3 hours Theaters The Portland Players playhouse has been in this neighborhood for decades and consistently showcases some well-respected shows. Unfortunately, the location has no parking, and being in a residential neighboorhood leaves you parking far away to get to the show, and hope for good weather. Also, the interior of the theatre smells very strongly of the mold hidden underneath the peeling ceiling tiles.See more..
Even with Covid restrictions, the Gracie Theatre is a very cool venue for Bangor. There are about 500 seats and while the theatre is newer, built in 2009 it has a class feel. This is a great place to watch a show and is located on the Husson University grounds. It is easily accessible and parking it not an issue. See more..
4.0Arts Center at 8 Hancock Avenue(1 review) - Magical venue in rural Maine Spent 1-2 hours Theaters The Hancock Avenue Arts Center in Hiram Maine is a relatively new venue to see live performances including concerts, author book sessions, comedians and more.
