The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum is located within the perimeters of the only active and functioning Shaker Community in the world. The museum was first organized in 1931 by Sisters Iona Sedgley and Ethel Peacock in hopes of educating the public about the "truths" of Shakerism. Thousands of visitors have come to explore this unique and sacred place of work and worship. Six of the 18 existing structures at Sabbathday Lake are open to the public. Throughout these buildings there are twenty-seven exhibit rooms which explore a continuum of over 200 years of Shaker heritage in the Maine Communities. We request that all visitors remember that this site is a home and to respect the privacy and work schedules of the Shaker Community. With the exceptions of the Shaker Store and Museum Visitors' Center, access to any building is restricted by guided tour only. 1-hour guided tours leave our Visitors' Center every hour on the half hour beginning at 10:30am with the last tour leaving at 3:15pm. The Shaker Museum is open from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day. Open Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm EST. Please note that the Museum and grounds are closed on Sundays but Sunday Meeting worship is open to the public. We offer a full schedule of workshops, concerts, and special events throughout the year, please visit our website for our full calendar of events. See more..

This historic, imposing, magnificent, Gothic-style Roman Catholic Church, built high on a hill, is one of a kind in Maine. It was started in 1871, finished in 1936. Its tallest spire is 167 feet (51 m), making it the city’s defining landmark. As the largest church in Maine and second largest in New England, it covers one acre (0.4 ha) and seats 2,200 parishioners at a single Mass. Its clergy hold Mass in Latin, Spanish, and English. Parking is curbside or in a paved lot across the street. On our visit, parishioners were arriving early for an afternoon Mass. Although not dressed to attend a service, we were privileged to be able to see its interior before Mass began. While the stone Basilica itself seemed in good condition, its adjoining brick edifices have seen better days. We adored all that were able to see on our visit; we plan to return better attired when we can take part in Mass. See more..

Worth visiting for the gorgeous pine wood paneling inside. Very nice. It is a short walk from either the Lake House Inn or the General Store. There aren't too many architectural sights, so you might as well see this one! See more..

east point is a non-denominational large Christian church. The building itself is large and spacious. There is a coffee area to sit in as well as meeting spaces, a play gym, and a soccer field that kids can run on. This service happens at 9 AM and 11 AM on Sundays. That message is an inclusive one which speaks to all walks of humans. The pastor iand team are great teachers. The focus is often on community and being the best person you Were created to be. It is a positive message .The worship team rocks out, folks seem genuinely glad to be there. It is a refreshing take on worship with the message that speaks to all. As a former Catholic, I love this church. See more..
