This place is 20 minutes from North Conway but it looks like most coming to the area ski at those in North Conway. It was not crowded on Saturday in early March. Everyone seemed like locals. Ski conditions were great. There is good variety of trails and some of the blues very steep and fun. The view is outstanding and on a clear day, you can see Mount Washington. See more..
  4. 4.5 Saddleback (88 reviews)
    - Awesome Ski Experience!
Monday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Saddleback image
At Saddleback, we've taken a different road from other large resorts. From our natural terrain and our wilderness environment to how the mountain was developed and is operated, almost everything about Saddleback is different. It's a magnificent mountain with genuine values and a gentle soul. It's the way Alpine skiing and riding used to be. Classic New England ski terrain with trails that follow the contours. Snow-covered conifers over most of the mountain create a different feel with rime-frosted trees at the lower elevations and snow ghosts at the upper. High elevation alpine experience with snowfields. At 4120 ft elevation, Saddleback is only one of seven ski mountains in New England with atop lift elevation over 4000 feet. Our vertical is greater than several well-known big mountain resorts. Kennebago Steeps! is the largest steep skiing and riding facility in the East. Saddleback has extensive glades like other ski areas but only Saddleback has Casablanca Glades & Chutes which provide endless ways down through Paradise. See more..

I've been coming to Black Mtn since I was kid and have been so very impressed by the way it has grown while maintaining a great family atmosphere. The grooming and snow making are outstanding and the mountain staff is always friendly and helpful. This is the first time I'd been there in approx 10 years (and the first time for my wife) and I was as pleased as always. I look forward to returning for a few more outings this winter. Also, I have recommended Black to many of my friends, especially those with kids. See more..

  16. 5.0 Penobscot River Trails (1 review)
    - Worth a visit, groomed trail biking, kayaking, groomed x-county skiing
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
This place is a hidden jewel. I live in Maine and just found out about it! A trail runs along a river where you can bike, walk or x-country ski. There are beautiful warming “huts” with wood stoves. This is a huge private preserve built to give a “world class” outdoor experience. If you are going to Baxter State Park, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument or near the Millinocket area, consider adding this to your visit. It is free and they even have bikes you can borrow/rent by donation if you don’t have a bike. I loved it! See more..
