    Iconic Acadia
What can I say about Jordan Pond and the Bubbles reflected in the clear water? It is iconic Acadia. In the summer there is always a pair of Anirondack chairs, thanks to Jordan Pond House, placed perfectly to enjoy the view. Jordan Pond and the Bubbles were both a result of glaciation. Melting glaciers left behind a moraine that blocked the water and formed Jordan Pond. Glaciation also rounded the Bubbles and formed the U shaped valley. It also left behind the erratic Bubble Rock perched atop a Bubble. My husband and I visited Acadia in early May off season to avoid the summer crowds and it was a good decision since we almost had the park to ourselves. But we couldn't have tea and popovers on the lawn at Jordan Pond House. A trade off.

Fabulous view of mountains across lake
We arrived as the Jordan Pond House was closing, so did not go inside. Restrooms are behind the building and did not close when the restaurant did. Even at 5pm on a weekday, there were a good many people there, although the parking lot was not full. So be sure to time your arrival to avoid midday crowds. We walked down the gravel trail from the building to the south end of the lake and looked at the beautiful view of the Bubbles mountains across the lake. We crossed the stone bridge and walked a short way down the trail on the west side of the lake, which was very pretty with various places to step out and see the edge of the lake from a different perspective. Did not go far enough to reach the boardwalk before turning around; if we had more time, would have loved to go all the way around the lake.
