I stayed in Chestnut Mountain Resort for one night so I ate dinner here since it was convenient. Honestly, I didn't expect much from the restaurant, however, I was pleasantly surprised that the Beet Salad I ordered was beautifully presented and very tasty, served in very quickly as well. I also order onion rings which were good, but nothing particularly special. Took Chocolate Cheesecake back to my room for dessert to eat later and it was good as well. Overall, it was a good experience with an excellent view of the zipline and ski lift with the Mississippi River beyond. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Reasonably sized menu that can please most people of varying ages. I recommend this restaurant.See more..

We were here for a major hobby convention. This was a large space and was well lit. Plenty of places to eat and stay in the area. But parking was horrid and expensive. The garage across the street was easy to get lost in and it was tough to find one's way out of it or to get from one section of the garage too another. There was at least a 15 minute walk, and one time we got lost in the garage and could not find out way out. During show setup, the facility turned off the air conditioning. In August--when we were wearing masks. Ugh. The food service was expensive and of poor quality. $5 waters, for example. Still the basic setup was good. Meeting rooms on the floor above the show floor were excellent. With a little attention to detail, this facility would get a higher rating.See more..

Start your boat tour at the Visitor Center where you purchase very reasonably priced tickets. Walk across the canal bridge and down some steps to the boat. You can also drive to the parking lot. First is short, entertaining and informative talk about mules and those who pull the canal boat. On board the boat, the narrator provides a history of the Illinois and Michigan Canal as you slowly glide a short distance on a restored section of the canal. The mule actually pulls the boat at maybe 2 miles/hour. The whole tour takes a bit over an hour. The canal was a very important link for transportation of goods between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River from about 1850 to 1930. The whole tour is fun and informative. See more..
We recently took our grandson to the Belleville Eckert’s to pick strawberries on a sunny Friday morning and had the most wonderful time! He was so excited to ride the tractor-pulled wagon to the strawberry field, which was full of beautiful bright red strawberries! The strawberries are the tastiest and sweetest of any strawberries I have ever eaten. After we finished, the wagon took us back to where we paid for our strawberries. Everyone was so friendly. After we put our strawberries in the car, we decided to eat lunch at the restaurant.....everything we had was delicious. There’s also a little outdoor cafe area with tables where you can purchase ice cream cones, etc , and a cute indoor market area that we always love visiting. It was a fun experience and we will definitely return. We can’t wait for peach and apple picking season!See more..

Nice quiet spot. We booked online, but came a day earlier. It was easy to just fill out the envelope and pay for the extra day. It is nice because you can do this any time of day and do not have to find someone. The shower house was very clean. There are so many trees that make it shaded and relaxing. Not sure about all the campsites, but our firepit had a grate to cook. The playground is excellent with a playset and swings. I really cannot stress how quiet and peaceful it was. We went mid-August and it was not full. Will go back again.See more..

This is a deceptively big place. We ended up spending 3 hours here. We first visited the visitor center; watched the movie on the background and got a map of where to go. I recommend doing this first. We drove to the stations of the cross and got out and walked.. I recommend walking it; all stations have audio. Was very peaceful; and got me feeling more serene. We did go then to the main shrine; at the bottom of the hill with many seats. We visited the chapel around the back; which is very well maintained. Directly across from the Main Shrine is The Millennium Spire - which was built to commemorate the Third Millennium. It stands at 85' tall and is made of stainless steel. Then we went to an area with bells and a pond. Finally, we got back in the car and went to The Lourdes Grotto. The Grotto is actually very near the entrance, but we saved it for the end of the visit. Things were extremely quiet and peaceful on the day we visited.See more..

4.5DuPage Children's Museum(229 reviews) - Awesome for children of all ages! Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Children's Museums
This museum is simply awesome. It has activities, play rooms, and events for infants, toddlers, and kids. My toddler especially LOVED the SplashZone (bring a change of clothes like they suggest, seriously!) and the Young Explorers areas (for children under two). But she enjoyed the whole museum and would have kept us there for many more hours if her naptime hadn't intervened. We will definitely be going back; we converted our admission into a family membership before we left the building. And even though it's geared at kids, we had a blast too! The cafe was delicious, healthy, and reasonably priced AND offered food our toddler actually ate. The family bathrooms are really well designed and, for nursing moms, there's also a comfy, private nursing room! This is a wonderful community resource.See more..

4.5Naper Settlement(222 reviews) - Funeral memorial luncheon Sunday: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
We went to the Meeting Room building for my Uncle’s funeral memorial luncheon. Easily held 80-90 people. Good accommodation and the gal that was watching over the room was very helpful, cleaning up plates periodically and helping out nicely. The stage could handle plenty of food, and there was a nice big basement to handle the overflow. (I’m not sure if that room was part of the deal or not.). Parking was perfect since the high school parking lot was right across the street. Would love to come back to spend more time at the Settlement.See more..

4.5Dozer Park(193 reviews) - We only did Dozier Park for a Tuesday night game Arenas & Stadiums
As we only spent one night, our purpose was to attend a game at Dozier park. Our experience at game was great. It being a Tuesday night, only about 1600 people there. We were fortunate enough to get tickets directly behind the Chief’s dugout. This was our 30th ball park in 5 years. Our usher Bob was the friendliest usher that we have ever met. We were really impressed by how many players would toss some balls up to kids. At most park, it’s like they are told not to but that was not the case here. The concession stands were above average with prices being reasonable and selection being good. The gift shop was well stocked including some MLB stuff. We enjoyed the game and the crowd around our area was enthusiastic. Sadly we did not visit any other places while in Peoria.See more..
