    Heritage town
What a great historic site. They people were kind and offered great information. You have shows on the pioneers, ox cart rides, wagon rides and demonstrations on how things were done back in the day. The best part is that it is all free. Beautiful area with many of the homes restored. Everything is family friendly with games and activities for children.

Great place for families to experience what it was like living in the 1840's
The experience is completely free - except for the Joseph Smith Homestead and store and Mansion House, which is conducted by the Community of Christ and they charge $5.00 per person, which is well worth it. For the other locations, tour guides are dressed in period (1840's) clothing and conduct tours and wagon rides in around 20 locations. Houses and shops have been restored and furnished as they were in the 1840's. The tours are very interesting and informative. The tour guides are all volunteer missionaries and it's obvious they totally enjoy what they are doing and are good at it. They are very gracious. The Family Living Center is wonderful for children of all ages (including adults) where they are taught how to make rope, make a barrel, wagon wheels, and other necessary household items of the 1840's. It is open year round, but is very cold in the winter. It is very busy in the summer months. There is plenty of free parking. Nauvoo is a very small town with a couple of places to spend the night and a couple of places to eat, but Keokuk and Fort Madison are only 15 miles away and offer many hotels, restaurants, etc. Nauvoo is definitely a worthwhile place to visit, to step back in time to the days of early America and learn how things were done then, and to have fun alone or with the family. All ages are welcome. Tours are available in several languages and many places are handicap friendly.
