Phillip Island Nature Parks - Penguin Parade, Victoria, Australia

Little penguins Big experience

What a delightful night experiencing the little penguins at such close quarters. The Penguin Plus ticket is certainly worth the extra cost as it is located for the best view of the penguins coming in from the sea and walking alongside the audience platform towards the hundreds of burrows. Don’t worry too much if you feel that you don’t have the perfect spot, as the penguins arrive in groups over a long period and people generally thin out on the platform sections and move towards the boardwalks. So there will be plenty of chances to see things from all spots. General admission ticket holders need to set their expectations as they are less likely to see the penguins coming in from the ocean. However GA will still see plenty of penguins close up from the boardwalk. It gets quite chilly after sundown so dress for the temperature drop and wind. Remember to put your phone away after the ranger talk as the lights from your phone or cameras scare the penguins and affect feeding the chicks. This unique experience is not to be missed.

    Experience plus!!
Amazing experience!!! We had tickets for 1/12/22 for penguin plus, and it’s worth every penny! The rangers Bec and Heath were amazing they were informative kept an eye on people to make sure people were NOT taking photos or videos. And they regularly told people to stop and also made sure people stay seated and were quiet ., well as quiet a can be when everyone is in awe of the penguins. The facilities opened at 5pm and we sat down at the restaurant more like a cafe and had the cheese burgers at $24 .. unfortunately not great and tasted like it had been microwaved BUT all the money spent goes back into conservation soo that’s good.. After we finished we were told the gates opened at 6.30pm and we waited in line. When the gates opened we walked down the path/ boardwalk - about a 10 minute walk. We were the first to arrive and had the best seats.. but within afew minutes all the best seats were gone. In the plus area they can fit upto 300 people. Our night was booked out but I couldn’t tell how many people were there. The penguins arrived at 8.43 in groups and then hundreds and hundreds of adorable little penguins go past your feet. You can hear, smell and watch in awe. There is a time limit and they do turn the boardwalk lights off after an hour but they give you plenty of warnings. The boardwalk walk back was incredible and you can walk and watch these little guys. There are rangers constantly asking people to stop pics but there work is cut out for them. I highly recommend this experience! Get there early take warm clothes and a blanket to sit on - makes it comfy and you can put it on if you get too cold : )
