Hidden Gems Places To Visit in Ohio, United States
- 5.0 Equestrian Ridge Farm (99 reviews)
-What a great memory!
Spent 1-2 hours Horseback Riding Tours
We had an incredible time! Our guide was super helpful and patient. We're beginners, not experienced, and felt very comfortable. We experienced some heavy rain while out in the pasture but it just made the ride more memorable. Felt like a full farm experience with chickens, roosters, a pig, donkey, cat, and several dogs wandering around. Such a great experience!! See more..
- 5.0 Hidden Marietta (98 reviews)
-Ghostly mansion l ives up to its haunted reputation
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM City Tours • Ghost & Vampire Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Walking Tours • Private Tours
In the quaint town of Marietta, Ohio is an overlooked gem I hope this review will help you find. That gem is the Anchorage Mansion. In the process of being restored, this building gives you the feeling of what is was to live a privileged life in times gone by. Our tour guide, Karita, as well as the people in the gift shop were kind, welcoming, and eager to answer any questions you might have about the building, its history, and its ghosts. Did I say GHOSTS? Yes, this building is haunted. You can obtain ghost hunting equipment like you see on TV and conduct your own ghost hunt. I encountered spirits as did my daughter who went with me on the tour. Can't say enough kind things about Karita who was extremely knowledgeable and patient in answering questions. See more..

My classmates from The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, class of '67 visited Amish Country to celebrate our 75th birthdays. We chose Troyer's Amish Tours , 3 hour tour with an Amish home cooked meal. From the moment we arrived and met our guide, we knew we were going to have a very informative tour and we were not disappointed. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining as we wandered through the countryside. Our tour ended with a home cooked Amish meal. The food was phenomenal and the hostess was warm and welcoming. Her children, who served the meal, captivated with their politeness and poise. I would recommend this tour to everyone. See more..

Our son, daughter in law and 2 grandchildren visited this wonderful park with my husband and me. It is a great park! This is the first time we visited and we will be back. The park was clean and well kept. Rides are $1 each and concessions are reasonably priced. There are plenty of picnic tables, lots of playground areas, a nice pool, a diving pool, and a kiddie pool. The amusement rides are primarily geared to 6-7 years old or younger, but we saw preteen kids riding the swing ride. It was just WONDERFUL seeing everyone enjoying this park. - 5.0 John Rankin House (85 reviews)
-Moving History Come Alive
Historic Sites
This site is a truly hidden gem of American history. The guided tour is a wonderful experience that upfolds the history of the patriots who lived here and served not only Ripley, Ohio's spiritual needs, but the physical needs to former slaves fleeing to freedom. The recreated period rooms let one feel like walking back into the era. Here you can see the actual signal that led to freedom and walk the ground where the opening scenes of Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin actually occurred. This is a must-see site. See more..
- 5.0 Slate Run Living Historical Farm (83 reviews)
-Very enjoyable place
Farms
Slate Run Metro Park in Canal Winchester is a wonderful place for a hike in the woods. Notable features in the park include wetlands, hiking and biking trails, a historic covered bridge, and a historic living farm (not open when I went). The short trail along the lake has a boardwalk and provides a good place for watching waterfowl. I found this park to be much less crowded than other Metro Parks in Columbus, probably because of its somewhat remoteness. But, with its attractive features, Slate Run Metro Park will certainly make for an enjoyable visit. See more..
- 5.0 Birch Bark Canoe Livery (81 reviews)
-Top Notch
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Kayaking & Canoeing
This was definitely our best canoe trip yet. We’ve visited multiple canoe liveries here in Ohio and this is the most scenic, peaceful, and well-run one by far. Clean, safe transportation to the put-in spot, getting in the canoe was a breeze even with a 4 year old in tow, and the exit was also easy to navigate with plenty of employees there to assist. We were a family of two parents, plus a 19, 14, and 4 year old, and a great time was had by all of us! Highly recommend! See more..

Saturday: Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
Automobile history comes alive in Snook's Dream Cars Automobile Museum, fittingly located adjacent to one of America's first cross-country highways, U.S. 6, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Your journey in the "past lane" begins as you step into an authentically recreated 1940s-era Texaco filling station, featuring an extensive collection of "automobilia" - everything from hood ornaments and window cranks to seat covers, bug remover and backseat touring games. You will continue past an operational, four-bay mechanics' area where vintage vehicles are repaired, and into a working museum of coin-operated amusements, ranging from pinball and slot machines to a Model-T Kiddie Ride (bring along your quarters!). You won't want to miss the antique pedal cars, Texaco promotional gimmicks or the classic collection of automobile decanters, some still holding their original Jim Beam brew. When you've had your fill of these "time machines" wheel into a spectacular showroom of dream cars from the '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s. The Snooks' eclectic collection reflects the elegance of years past. Displayed in authentic settings, these vintage vehicles will take you back to a 1930s general store, a 1940s stroll throught downtown Bowling Green, a 1950s diner, and a 1960s Sebring raceway pitlane. A collection of classic military vehicles completes the living museum, where all the cars are running, reliable and ready to show. Before you leave, be sure to stop in the gift shop, and take a little bit of history home with you. PLEASE CALL FOR WEEKEND AVAILABILITY. See more..

- 5.0 Motts Military Museum (69 reviews)
-Well worth the vision
Military Museums
This museum is a little gem with its diverse collection both inside and outside. It's inside collection covers from the American civil War through to the modern era with some quite moving collections particularly from those who didn't survive , those that were taken prisoner as well as what they saw/encountered. The WW1 exhibition was interesting as there were medals by great-grandfather won but i am sure the Commonwealth called them different names. The outdoor collection consists of some choppers/aircraft that you can walk up to / around, the same with a collection of military vehicles which i quite unique in some cases. There is a WW2 Higgins landing craft and a replica (?) of Eddie Rickenbacker (ww1 USA ace) home. Also outside are a nbr of memorials to those who have fallen including one on dogs/their handlers particularly on the Vietnam war era. I will say as well the volunteers there were also most helpful and there is a great little gift shop. See more..

Hiking Trails
This trail is wonderful. We accessed it at Millersburg depot and rode 6 miles south to the Killbuck depot where it ends. Not much at the Killbuck trailhead but restrooms, picnic tables, playground and ample parking at Millersburg. Nice wide, flat trail shared with walkers and Amish buggies. Mostly shaded with woods and wetlands along the way. Great birding too! Signage states that it someday will extend from Lake Erie to the Ohio River! We’d like to comeback and ride north to Holmesville and beyond next trip! See more..

- 5.0 Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Reservation (59 reviews)
-Best Park in the tri-county area, See a bald Eagle
Saturday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Parks
I have been walking this park a couple times a week for a year now. It is beautiful, diverse, has history and is maintained very well. There are easy and difficult trails to navigate and you can go 3 miles in a loop without repeating a path. The Gorge is the site everyone wants to see. Two ways to get to the bottom. There are stairs from the Gorge trail and the Rabbit Run trail takes you to the bottom via natural trails. This trail is harder to navigate and requires a 2 mile + walk, so beware. Gorgeous forest, meadows, a swamp, a marsh with long pier. much to see. Many trails are improved with packed stone and leveled. Some trails closer to the buildings are paved asphalt. There is wildlife on display year around, Fox, various birds, an Eagle and more. Kids park and train. Check it out! See more..

Clear pickup instructions were given and help was there when we arrived to exit the water. Highly recommend taking a trip with Breakaway Excursions! See more..
- 5.0 Battelle Darby Creek (52 reviews)
-Small Bison Herd Roaming
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nice park. We came to see the small herd of bison. We didn't think we were going to see them, but did as we were driving away from the park so I didn't get a pic of them. My husband stopped at the restroom, which was very nice for a park. The park ranger/worker even said they sanitize them 4 times a day. He was also very helpful in directing us to the nature center. They were having an Easter egg hunt for kids when we were there in late March. There were lots of walkers and joggers. It seems very family friendly. There was a sign warning people not to leave their valuables unattended, but it didn't have an unsafe feel. The nature center was closed, but you could still walk outside and get some information. There was a metal bison that was pretty artistic. Lots of prairie grass and tress. Ample parking. A pretty area. See more..
- 5.0 B&O Bike Trail (51 reviews)
-Great 30 minute walk outsides
Hiking Trails
There is a lot of different places to enter the bike trail, and we went the route through the grassy area which turned out to be about a 30 minute walk through mostly wooded areas. Easy paths, walking through some open areas while some shaded/tree areas, and a few places to sit down. Overall, a nice place to walk and enjoyed being outside. See more..
- 5.0 Brecksville Reservation (51 reviews)
-Nice surprises off the beaten path
Nature & Wildlife Areas
We’ve been visiting this park occasionally to hike for almost twenty years, and thought we’d seen everything here, but a few days ago we eschewed the usual starting point near the nature center due to the large crowds. So we parked at the stables and headed off down a closed road to the Ottawa Point picnic area, previously unknown to us. Past the picnic area we found ourselves on a segment of the Buckeye Trail that passes a camping area. It was magical in the early ( for Cleveland) Spring, with most trees still relatively unencumbered with view-blocking leaves, but with bright green foliage already visible on the gorge floors far below. The trail winds along an increasingly narrow ridge before taking a dramatic dip down into the valley. We had to cut our hike short at that point, but there is undoubtedly more and we shall return. See more..

-7 hour walleye fishing charter Eyehooker Sportfishing Marblehead
Fishing Charters & Tours
My wife, three children (all adults) and I booked our first Lake Erie walleye charter with Eyehooker Sportfishing and we had an excellent full day experience. We are excited to reserve another trip! Captain Bill Hitchcock and his first mate Zane made us feel very welcome from the beginning. Everyone caught some amazing walleye and learned how to fish on Lake Erie. They were very friendly and interacted with our entire family. Captain Bill’s 32 foot fishing boat and his quality fishing gear shows his passion for fishing in his commitment to being the best for this type of adventure. I would highly recommend Eyehooker Sportfishing to anyone looking to have a great lake Erie walleye experience. See more..

Biking Trails
We were in the area for a weekend getaway, and were visiting the historic Teegarden Covered Bridge, and someone told us about the Greenway trail. We were hoping to get some hiking in, so we starting walking on a beautiful, crisp, colorful October morning. The walk was amazing - super quiet, everywhere you looked was just amazing scenery, and despite the great paved path, hardly any bikers (which was great, we hate always having to dodge around people on bikes). We walked for several miles, and just really enjoyed every step. Would love to come back and hike this more often! See more..
- 5.0 Escape Rooms by Frankynicky (42 reviews)
-Tesla Escape Room is designed VERY well!
Saturday: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Escape Games
NO SPOLIERS! We played as a group of six: two adults (late forties/early fifties) and four teens. Four of us have played eight other Escape Rooms around the US. Some escape rooms fall into the trap of solving lock after lock after lock, which becomes repetitive. This is NOT one of those. The Tesla game was well-thought-out, with a believable storyline and surprises. We are looking forward to trying their Eighties room soon. See more..
