Most reviewed Observatories & Planetariums in Ohio

  1. 4.5 Ward Beecher Planetarium (9 reviews)
    - Science Lover's Free Dream Attraction
    Saturday: Observatories & Planetariums
During the school year, the Planetarium puts on free shows for the public, usually on Friday and Saturday nights. You have to arrive on time as they lock the doors when the show is scheduled to start. The shows are really very good, and the planetarium at YSU is one of the only in NE Ohio. It has also been recently updated with new seats and a new star projector. If you decide to attend YSU, if you take Astronomy 1504 or the lab, you get to use the planetarium for some of your classes, which is really pretty neat. See more..
  2. 4.5 John Glenn Astronomy Park (8 reviews)
    - The Special Talk Was Great

We went when they were giving a night talk here, with many telescopes. It was interesting, we learned much, and had the opportunity to look through several telescopes. They don't have a lot of parking, so to be assured of a parking space, go to their website and reserve a spot (free). Also, if it's too cloudy to hold the talk, they will tell you on the website, so be sure to check before you go. Highly recommend! (But if there is no talk being given, there's nothing to see or do--unless you have a telescope of your own, then it would be a good place to set up and see the night skies.) See more..
  3. 4.5 BGSU Planetarium (6 reviews)
    - Fun & Educational
Spent 1-2 hours Observatories & Planetariums
This is one of the best kept secrets on the BGSU campus. They put on monthly shows that are well done and free to the public. We make donations which they do accept. Children will love it. Adults will love it. I find the schedule out through the university but don't know if there is a website or not. The shows are different every month and have a variety of interesting themes. Whether you are buy yourself or with a family, you can find this interesting. See more..
  4. 4.0 Perkins Observatory (5 reviews)
    - Lots of great museum exhibits

Telescope viewing was underwhelming, both outdoors (thank you to the generous volunteers who let us see through their telescopes) and upstairs through the 32" lens. We viewed Saturn both outdoors on the lawn and upstairs through the big telescope. I was surprised how small Saturn looked through even the big telescope. Oh well. Makes you appreciate the Hubble telescope photos as well as close-ups taken be fly-by missions. I enjoyed seeing the 4 Galilean moons for the first time, but was surprised how tiny Jupiter looked through the telescope on the lawn with the Dobsonian mount. Wasn't much bigger than what I see with my naked eye. But, of course, I can't see those moons without the telescope. My favorite part of the visit was viewing the many artifacts, posters, atlases and astronomy books while waiting for the telescope viewing to begin. See more..
