    Dennison Railroad Depot Museum image
Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, this restored 1873 Pennsylvania Railroad depot is the best example of a WW2 Canteen left in the county. During WWII, 1.3 Million service members were served free food by 4000 working volunteers at the Dennison Depot Salvation Army Servicemen’s Canteen. These servicemen and women traveled by troop train and stopped at the Depot as they were going off to fight in the war. Our Homefront hospitality became so well known, that the nickname Dreamsville, USA was given to us by the soldiers! The facility includes a museum, restaurant, gift shop, theater, and rolling stock including 2 engines. Very interactive for kids with a scavenger hunt and children’s railroad experience car. The site features a large model train display, multiple exhibits in 4 restored train cars including a rare WW2 hospital train car, special events throughout the year including Polar Express, and more! When you visit, you will be walking in the footsteps of American heroes! See more..
  4. 5.0 Motts Military Museum (69 reviews)
    - Well worth the vision

    Motts Military Museum image
This museum is a little gem with its diverse collection both inside and outside. It's inside collection covers from the American civil War through to the modern era with some quite moving collections particularly from those who didn't survive , those that were taken prisoner as well as what they saw/encountered. The WW1 exhibition was interesting as there were medals by great-grandfather won but i am sure the Commonwealth called them different names. The outdoor collection consists of some choppers/aircraft that you can walk up to / around, the same with a collection of military vehicles which i quite unique in some cases. There is a WW2 Higgins landing craft and a replica (?) of Eddie Rickenbacker (ww1 USA ace) home. Also outside are a nbr of memorials to those who have fallen including one on dogs/their handlers particularly on the Vietnam war era. I will say as well the volunteers there were also most helpful and there is a great little gift shop. See more..

What a wonderful treasure! It walks the visitor thru a veteran's experience and what it means to serve. From what inspired people to enlist to their experiences while in service to the post-military service lives, it brings veterans' experiences to the forefront tastefully and emotionally. Each part of the museum is well thought out and created. My 12 yr old history buff enjoyed her walk thru as much as I did. Recommend for 12+ as there is a lot of reading and minimal interactive screens like you would find in a science museum. Well worth a stop. Spent about 2 hours there. See more..

  11. 4.0 Historical Aircraft Squadron (1 review)
    - Interesting Historical Review of Aircraft
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums
This museum of historical aircraft is interesting for any military or airplane enthusiast. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable as most have served in the military and used the items on display. The displays offer real items and, in most cases, short explanations of what the item is and/or the function. The best part of the Historical Aircraft Squadron is their annual WWII USO Style Hangar Dance/ fundraiser with a live Big Band and dancing. WWII style dress is encouraged. Door and costume prizes are awarded. Hors d’oevres are served and a free dance lesson is available. This annual event is usually the first Saturday of September – check website for details! 12. 5.0 Miami Valley Veterans Musuem (1 review)
    - A Must-See for people who love the freedoms they share!
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Military Museums • History Museums
In a new location, the Miami Valley Veterans Museum exhibits artifacts from the War of 1812 down to modern times. Having visited hundreds of museums, I learned things not heard of before. I particularly liked the display of the evolution of soldiers' foods display, actual items from a War of 1812 militia and the amazing Higgins Boat. Their collection of mobile cases from each major conflict taken to schools demonstrate their passion for teaching the price of our freedoms today to children and youth. They are in the process of remodeling their new building with the aid of many volunteers showing a great vision for the future. Although I live 50 miles away, I can't believe it took me this long to visit! See more..
