So, some places in the castle are locked mostly places that I would think are storage or that would allow you into an area where they are still working. No one wants to fall through a floor and get hurt. It's on the smaller side, but I managed to spend almost 2 hrs here just looking around and taking pictures inside and out, plus across from the parking area is a river and I walked over to that also. I was afraid that they wouldnt have parking when I got there midday but they did. I thought it was really nice and people inside talked about the man who built this whole thing. It was really cool. A very tranquil location to stop and spend a few hours. When you know the history of the building, it makes it even more exciting. Just to imagine those who were there and the original intention that this castle was originally to be just the guard house, one can only imagine what the full estate would of been like had it been built. Be prepared for other visitors, this building is located within a park area. When we were there, there were several people having picnics, taking graduation and engagement photos, and even a group playing frisbee. We did a full review of this location on our blog site and YouTube channel. See more..

    - Castle? Or just a nice house?

The architecture was very interesting, but I was not delighted with my trip. I found the tickets to be overpriced. The information provided was like listening to my aunt recount family history about a relative that I never knew. Basically, the greatest accomplishment of the Piatt family was to build a beautiful and find a way to get others to pay for the upkeep. Since 1912 they have been offering tours. So, if you like to listen to random family history, this might be the tour for you. Understandably, the house was very musty. See more..

The Piatt Castles were built in the mid-19th century by brothers Donn and Abram Piatt. They are about a mile apart and are both open for self-guided tours. You can pay for admission to one or both castles, but I highly recommend visiting both, as they are so different. There is a lot of history to be learned, both by the signs and markers throughout the castles and by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Both castles have activities for children in several of the rooms. See more..
