4.5Canal Exploration Center(29 reviews) - Educational, informative of trails Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Scenic Walking Areas
This is a spot where the scenic railroad stops at. There's a building that has a restroom and plenty of educational and interactive material on the canal system in the area. There's a gift shop inside, too. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable on the towpath trail and will provide maps at your request See more..
5.0Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery(20 reviews) - "Most impressive benefit of my military service" Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
one of the best benefits of my military service is the availability of both myself and my wife being laid to rest in this beautiful memorial park. On my weekly visit to my late wife's grave, I am always impressed with how well the cemetery is maintained and how hard the grounds crew works to keep it that way. I have visited her weekly for the past 3 years and it is always worth the visit.See more..
4.5Veterans Memorial Park(18 reviews) - A beautiful walk Spent 1-2 hours Historic Walking Areas • Monuments & Statues • Educational sites • Scenic Walking Areas • Fountains
Even though it was drizzling when I arrived at this park, it still held appeal. In fact, the less than optimal conditions made me think about the conditions of those who served and gave their lives. I don’t think it matters which side politically we are on when it comes to honoring the great bravery and gift of life that these men and women gave for us to be free. A beautifully kept park as well. See more..
5.0Lowe Volk Nature Center(13 reviews) - Little Country Get Away Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Stopped by this park to explore while on a trip home to Ohio. Never visited this park before but so glad we did. The nature center and staff are excellent and very friendly. You can fish at the pond (catch and release) without a license and the short walking trails are beautiful and easily accessible to most everyone. Hidden spots like this make the roads less traveled worth the time and adventure. See more..
3.5Wolf Run State Park(13 reviews) - Nice place to camp Spent 2-3 hours Scenic Walking Areas
The park has a few trails. People are friendly. The roads in the campground need updated as well as some sites. Two shower houses, no flush toilets only pit latrines. Swimming beach and boat ramp are up the road. There is an airport to fly into and a primitive campground there The buckeye trail goes through the park. Nice spots for no hookups and electric. Would of given higher mark except for roads and having to leave campground to swim or fish. Ice is $1.50 the wood is $4 for 4-5 small pieces of slab wood with bark. I bought 2 bundles of wood before seeing how small they were. Staff is very friendly. There are places to eat nearby like wolf run drive in and patty’s placeSee more..
4.0Vermilion Lighthouse(10 reviews) - Romantic stroll on lakefront Lighthouses • Scenic Walking Areas
My wife and I have been coming here for quite some time. Vermillion in a quaint lakeside summer tourist town that has lots to offer the visitor. This year's Covid however threw everything under the bus, not sure what was open or closed most of the time. One thing you can always enjoy however if the Vermillion lighthouse. It is a romantic stroll along the waterfront in the evening that is really great. Albeit a short stroll as there are private homes on each side of the lighthouse, it is still very inviting especially on a warm summer eveSee more..
This park, owned by the City of Bowling Green, is a good place to take an easy walk in the woods, within the city limits. The trails are well marked and maintained. Walkers are likely to see deer, which are accustomed to having people around. The 1-1/2 mile outer loop is a a nice, easy, almost flat walk. It is not suitable for wheelchairs, though, because the path is dirt covered in wood chips.See more..
5.0Look About Lodge(5 reviews) - A lesser-known but enjoyable part of this Metropark Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Scenic Walking Areas
We have not been inside the lodge building itself yet, but we have walked around it and peered into a the windows many times and it looks charming. For us,the real draw was the trails. If you follow the path out of the parking lot past the picnic area with a stone grill, you’ll soon encounter a winding path across roots next to a ravine that will take you to a branch of the Buckeye Trail. Once you reach the valley and turn left, you’ll be given a variety of options and trails, one or two of which go by some dramatic little waterfalls and gorges. Be sure to download (and also print out!) a map from the Cleveland Metroparks website, since it is easy to become turned around!See more..
4.0Steubenville Murals(4 reviews) - Make the time to see these murals! Scenic Walking Areas
I was in Steubenville to see the fort and the woman there told me about the murals and gave me a map. I am so glad she did. I totally enjoyed walking around the city seeking them out. The murals were absolutely beautiful and it was great fun hunting them down. I didnt have time to find them all, but I will be making the trip back to the city to find them all.See more..
5.0First Responders Park(3 reviews) - Touching Remembrance Memorial Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
We finally went here. And I have to admit. I didn't think it would make me feel the way I did. This Park is beautiful yet very touching. So many names. You can't help but feel yourself be moved and want to cry. If you get a chance, stop in and see this beautiful memorial. They have along fountain wall and a flame as well. You won't regret it.See more..
4.5(Earl Barnhart) Buzzards Roost Nature Preserve(3 reviews) - Beautiful hike Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Scenic Walking Areas Buzzards Roost is very well maintained. We love hiking here. If you go in the spring make sure you take bug spray, mosquitos are bad, but it's worth the effort. See more..
3.5Whitesburg Nature Preserve(2 reviews) - No trail markers, but a nice walk Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
I checked out the Whitesburg Nature Preserve on a nice Friday afternoon. It is hard to find and is at the end of a dead-end street. The entrance drive is very rough. There are a few places to park along the drive and a small parking lot at the end. None of the trails are marked but I was able to make my way onto most of them for a about a mile walk along the river and up on the ridge. There is a small pond and river access for fishing…catch and release only. There are some nice boardwalks, but most of the trails are unimproved. Nice little park for some exercise during lunch or if you have a break in your business in Chagrin Falls.See more..
4.0Jenera Ohio Village Park(1 review) - A park all to yourself Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas We used to visit this place when we lived close by, and make a point to have a picnic whenever we're in town again. It's a fun little park that is totally underutilized. The park is well-maintained, with a softball filed, tennis courts, playground equipment, shelter houses, picnic tables, and space to walk. We just love this little park!See more..
5.0St Mark's Victory Lutheran Church(1 review) - Lutheran Tradtition still holds Saturday: Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Scenic Walking Areas • Churches & Cathedrals My wife used to talk about her Lutheran Upbringing in the 70s. This was the first church that we had found which still held with the traditional Lutheran Call and Response format. The church is small but very welcoming. Over half the church families greeted my wife when we stopped in at the church. There is a strong love of God here and Deacon delivered a powerful message. If you would like to see how Church was in the past or miss the old style of service, I strongly encourage you to come and visit St Marks. And stay for the after service fellowship of cookies and coffee.See more..
4.0Kroger Wetlands(1 review) - Short hike in Ohio Scenic Walking Areas This is one of those hidden-away urban natural areas. There is a mile-long loop trail that circumnavigates a wetlands area. The trail was in good shape when we visited. A quick hike would take less than 30 minutes. Stopping to listen to bird calls and do other nature area activities could add some time, especially pre-sunrise. Warning: lots and lots of large poison ivy vines. They were cut back when we hiked but they were thick. Invasive species: Lots of japanese honeysuckle and multi-flora rose. Scattered autumn olive, privet and wintergreen.See more..
5.0Astronaut Grove(1 review) - Small but Memorable memorial Park Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
I stopped by Astronaut Grove in Westerville while biking the Alum Creek Trail in December. It is a relatively small park, and only a short stop would be sufficient to get the essence of the park. But, at the same time it is a memorial park where one can spend time pondering the contributions and sacrifice by astronauts. The brick walkway includes small star-shaped plaques dedicated to martyrs of the Apollo 1 and Challenger accidents. There is a sculpture “Reaching for the Stars” dedicated to the future of space exploration at the circular end of the brick walkway. Astronaut Grove is certainly worth a stop if you are in the area.See more..
