As with most of the New Era courses, this is a very nice layout that is fun to play. I do think the slope rating is a bit high -- the court has pretty generous fairways and large greens. The staff is very friendly and want to be sure you have a good time. Only negatives are the course has a lot of outings (can't blame them for that, courses need the money) and the greens are a bit tore up -- even bad golfers should know how to fix ball marks. And the pace of play can be a bit slow because the course is generally crowded, but it's a nice place to spend a day...See more..

During the week is much easier to score a tee time and a good excuse for a "mid-week cold". A tranquil but challenging course. The course plays long and can be made longer if the groupings are a bit stacked. We had the "good fortune" to play just after the course re-opened following some heavy rain, the crowd was light and the weather was mild. Good drainage in most areas. The former TRW Country Club was designed by Pete Dye with the usual rolling hills and obstinate trees and hazards for an added challenge as well as shift changing greens. I can't speak much of the golf course, as my wife and just happened upon their hidden gem of a pub names "A. Mulligan's", which alone makes the trip worthwhile. We were offered a pre-dinner cocktail to enjoy on the veranda while we looked over their eclectic bill of fare. The view was fantastic, as swans glided across a small lagoon and a water wheel turned lazily in a small stream. For reasons unknown to us, many of the golfers we observed were dressed in traditional garb, right down to the knickers! We moved inside to enjoy our meals, which were well portioned and delicious. We asked about the pub name, and was told there really is an "Arthur Mulligan" who lives near the course, and was an avid golfer back in the day. The waitress said he frequents the club and course, occasionally bringing his pipes to play a haunting version of "Danny Boy" in Fall's early twilight. We didn't hear him that night, but we'll be back again many times over. You never know!See more..

My brother and I played on Memorial Day 2020, after the Covid rules had started to end. A grateful and friendly staff had Covid procedures totally done right. But that’s not why the high rating. The Course! Unbelievably naturally beautiful. Crazy elevation changes for Ohio. Up shots, down shots, across the ravine shots, lakes. And so heavily wooded and natural. Maybe it was Covid, but we neither pushed nor were pushed by other golfers. The carts are special for the terrain, and have these kinda cool computer screens to guide and warn you (of golfers just ahead or no-carts areas, etc). My brother and I play some pretty cheap golf and the occasional awful course. This was a step up, in quality and price, and totally worth it!See more..

Driving from DC to Iowa, I stopped at this course to fit in a quick round on Tuesday twilight. I only encountered two other groups on the course, so I was able to play at any rate I wished. I'm Afro American, so we usually expect to not be greeted with open arms at golf courses. This course was no different. Adults not friendly, but the young girls at the bar were. Cute, friendly, and all smiles. The course itself was very nice. Tee boxes, greens, fairways, bunkers, etc...all in great shape. Course very well maintained. Care was given to decorate many holes with pumpkins and much Halloween paraphernalia. Very cool! All the surrounding homes were very nice and well kept. Nice mixture of straight, narrow, and dogleg holes. I found the difficulty to be average. No carries, ravines, or daunting hazards to deal with off the tee. Flat course. Paid $25 with cart at 4pm on Tues. If feeling welcome is not a major priority to u, I'd recommend this course.See more..

I've been playing Shale Creek since it opened and it's been my favorite course in NE Ohio ever since. It's challenging but fair, always in great shape. It's wide open for the most part, which means it's also always windy. Water and sand come into play on a number of courses but never to the point where you feel the obstacles are unfair. The driving range and a bottle of water are included in the price of a round and the pro shop and restaurant are both good. The staff is friendly and helpful. Fun course to play.See more..

I had talked about what a great course it is, and we were not disappointed. I've played here many times over the last two years, and love every round. The course is beautiful, and the holes offer a great deal of variety. My two favorite holes are number 9 and number 18 (the ones you see on line). They are both par 5's, both have a lot of water to deal with, but both can be parred if you play them correctly. The fairways and greens are in good shape, so if you can keep the ball in the fairway you are going to have a great shot. There is a fun par 4 on the front that is shorter, and some can reach the green with their drive, but water and hazards make it a challenge. Highly recommend this course to anyone. If you live in Cincinnati, it's well worth the trip, and the slightly higher green fees. If you are from out of town, make the trip to Batavia, you will not be disappointed. I've been to Coppertop for many different occasions. The food is outstanding and the owners are very easy to work with and very nice.
