    - Excellent Contemporary Art Exhibits
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Art Museums
    Columbus Museum of Art image
This was a lovely way to spend some time in the city. The contemporary gallery was small but excellent. The entire museum is quite small, but we really liked the current special exhibits (there's an entire LEGO room right now until 8/20) as well as the Wonder Room. My teen especially liked the interactive spots where you can make your own art to be displayed and respond to prompts with sticky notes. The gift shop was excellent with lots of fun reasonably priced options, and if you buy something then parking is free. I'll be watching the exhibit schedule to see when to return. Currently, you still need to reserve a specific time slot before coming to the museum as a crowd control measure. See more..

Built around 1820 as a private home for several of Cincinnati’s most prominent citizens, the Taft Museum of Art is now one of the finest small art museums in America and holds National Historic Landmark status for its historic house and Duncanson murals. Here, you’ll find gems of history nestled into every nook and cranny in our period-inspired rooms—each their own canvas of creativity—that surround you in stories that have endured for generations. Our 200-year-old house holds a remarkable collection that spans the Middle Ages through the 19th century with European and American paintings, and 18th-century watches, Chinese porcelains, and French Renaissance enamels. The collection features iconic artists including Rembrandt, Goya, Gainsborough, Turner, Ingres, Whistler, and Sargent, as well as Federal-period American furniture and the most significant pre-Civil War domestic murals in the United States. 7. 4.5 Otherworld (228 reviews)
    - Weirdness Forever
Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Art Museums
    Otherworld image
Married couple with no kids. A very neat place to explore and enjoy the weird. Got "lost" for 2 hours. Definitely had some dark corners to get sucked into. Highly recommend for those who just wanna be and exist. My recommendations for this place for improvement: 1) Have employees flush out excessive lingering persons from certain areas so that everyone can have a chance to experience each nook-and-cranny (the monster-mouth area had a large group of stubborn teenagers who vocalized their irritation at other kids wishing to explore) 2) Continuous flow of refilling/rechecking hand sanitation stations as many were out, and 3) employees making sure children aren't running at an unsafe speed and pushing others out of the way. 13. 4.5 Zanesville Museum of Art (69 reviews)
    - Hidden gem
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
    Zanesville Museum of Art image
This is not the easiest place to find in Zanesville. Look for the red metal sculpture in the yard. Otherwise, it could easily pass for a church building. Admission is graciously funded by an area bank, so it's free. There are 3 floors of exhibits. I expected the collection to largely focus on ceramics, since the area is known for ceramic production. In actuality, there are probably more paintings than anything else, most of which are portraits. A couple final thoughts, it's not cluttered or disorganized. They have an excellent library. My kids enjoyed it. And there is nothing truly distasteful on display here (if you're looking for edgy modern art, this is not the place to find it). See more..

  17. 4.5 Pump House Center for the Arts (21 reviews)
    - Worth a side trip
    Art Museums
Pump House Center for the Arts image
Enjoying a special event in this restored building, I had my eyes opened really well. The pump house, originally an industrial building, was restored to be an art gallery and a location to support the arts. I was taken by how well the restoration was done, in particular. Along with that, the original work on the building is artistic of itself. The brickwork was done artistically to show off the architectural pieces of the building. It's so odd to see that in a building whose intent was to be industrial. The art pieces hung on the walls change depending on what is happening. I saw a variety of styles and subjects in the art. I did not see any sculptures when I visited, but they may have been moved for the busy event. See more..

  19. 4.5 Kennedy Museum of Art (8 reviews)
    - Insanely Great!
Saturday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Art Museums
The museum is housed in the old insane asylum - and the four-story red brick building is well worth the short trip up the hill. It's everything you imaged an insane asylum from 100 years ago should look like! They have a nice interpretive area that explains the history of the grounds and residents. The art museum is top-notch, with exhibits that rotate regularly. Ohio University bought the grounds and buildings (which will keep the buildings from disrepair) and university officials and administrators have offices there. Which is, well, sort of ironic.
