Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail image
We were in the area for a weekend getaway, and were visiting the historic Teegarden Covered Bridge, and someone told us about the Greenway trail. We were hoping to get some hiking in, so we starting walking on a beautiful, crisp, colorful October morning. The walk was amazing - super quiet, everywhere you looked was just amazing scenery, and despite the great paved path, hardly any bikers (which was great, we hate always having to dodge around people on bikes). We walked for several miles, and just really enjoyed every step. Would love to come back and hike this more often! See more..
  3. 4.5 Homestead Metro Park (34 reviews)
    - Small park but packs a punch
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
    Homestead Metro Park image
Homestead Metro Park in Hilliard is a relatively small park compared to other Metro Parks in Columbus. What it lacks in size, it makes up with lovely displays of the history of the area. Refurbished / relocated historical buildings from the railroad period make for an informative visit to the park. There is a caboose, a railway ticket booth, and a travelers waiting area. Children will especially enjoy this park. In addition, the other main features are the about a mile-long walking trail, and a lovely lake. On the west side of the park runs the beautiful Heritage Trail (about six-mile long), which is great for walking, running, biking. Homestead Metro Park is a very popular park as I could observe from the several people visiting the park even in the middle of December. Certainly, make a stop here if you are in the area. See more..

Located near my home, I frequently take walks or sit on a bench to read. The park has a children’s water park, plenty of picnic settings, fishing opportunities, and room to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. Numerous community events for the family are held in the park throughout the year. Plenty of free off-street parking. See more..

This is one of the nicest rail-to-trail systems I have had the pleasure to ride on. The trail goes from Nelsonville, through Hocking College's beautiful (historic) campus, and all the way to Athens Ohio. Many pubs and cafes along the way making it a very enjoyable day trip. See more..

Metroparks of the Toledo Area image
I have been to the Oak Openings only twice and was introduced by my beau who is from Ohio and completed his PhD here. The diversity of plants is quite impressive....there are just so many varieties of grasses, sedges, and shrubs and most of them are native. The trails are well maintained, and the infrastructure in the parks is really lovely. Its hard to know how Toledo keeps up with these huge parks but they are well maintained, and a birder's and botanists dream. See more..
  9. 5.0 Greene County Greene Ways (20 reviews)
    - Xenia Station - Best Bicycle Trails!
    Biking Trails
    Greene County Greene Ways image
Greene County (Xenia OH, bicycle capital of the Midwest) is the confluence of the best bike trail system in the Nation. This is a world-class asset for Xenia and Greene County OH. And, fortunately, downtown Xenia and Xenia Station understand the significance of this trail network and are working to capitalize on its value added to the community. With some map study and creativity, you can branch of the trail system and rejoin it for some great challenging country rides in hills "off the grid" with low traffic and beautiful scenery, especially now in spring. The outlying communities like Cedarville, Waynesville (the antique capital of the Midwest), Yellow Springs and Beavercreek are some closer in examples of great out-and-back trips. The possibilities on the bike are endless on this trail system. You can always do something new, like the back roads to Clifton Mill, Young's Dairy or Corwin. This is the GREATEST place to plan a bicycle vacation... See more..

  11. 5.0 Licking county Bike trails (12 reviews)
    - Great Ride
Spent 2-3 hours Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Forests
    Licking county Bike trails image
Part of the Licking County bike trails, TJ Evans is a great ride. Mostly flat which is great for runners and bike beginners. The trail travels from Johnstown to Newark passing through Alexandria and Granville. It’s about 14 miles one way. TJ Evans does connect to other trails that are a part of the county trail system. There is a place to park before arriving at one of the trail entrances in Granville. Couple of issues is lack of signage. At several intersections there were no signs telling you which way to go. Additionally some of the locals don’t understand trail etiquette. The trail is wide enough to allow one person/biker to travel in opposite directions and pass each other. However local walkers tend to walk in large groups blocking the path which prevented bikers and runners to pass on their left. I personally had to use my brakes several times to avoid a collision despite yelling “on your left” See more..

    - Great Long Distance Trail

Congressman Ralph Regula Towpath Trail Park image
We were visiting family in Ohio and came out for a hike two mornings on the Towpath Trail. For both hikes, we parked at the Lake Avenue Trailhead in Massillon and went south one day and north the next. The entire Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail is about 100 miles, stretching from Cleveland to Tuscarawas County. The Stark County section was named for Congressman Regula, who was a big supporter of preserving the canalway. The trail is great for hiking, biking and other non-motorized travel. It follows the Tuscarawas River for most of the way through Stark County. A lot of wildflowers were blooming when we visited. And despite nice weather, we really didn't see a lot of other people on the trail. Overall, a nice greenway trail for a hike if in the area. See more..
  13. 4.5 Walnut Woods Metro Park (7 reviews)
    - Great for the dog lover in you :)
Spent 2-3 hours Biking Trails • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Walnut Woods Metro Park image
This is about a 20 minute drive from where we live so it’s a perfect drive for our dogs - those that can be in a dog park, and those that need to be walked. The dog park has an enclosed in “pond” of sorts that is perfect for dogs that love water but can’t play in the creeks off trail here. There’s a small agility type set up for dogs too, and for the most part people bring in dog friendly dogs. You do still have the occasional irresponsible person that will bring in a dog that causes fights and won’t leave. The trails and scenery are gorgeous - and there are plenty of streams to cool off in. It’s worth going off the beaten path in this park to see where you end up! See more..

    Loveland Bike Trail image
Park at the Monkey Bar and ride the 4 mile path to downtown Loveland where you can find local restaurants, bars, stores etc. The path continues for miles in either direction and includes a mostly shaded trail along the scenic Little Miami River. It can get a little crowded - especially near Loveland - but patrons are always courteous and “traffic” flows with ease. Great for all ages! Whether on bike or foot; exercise or fun, you will love this path every time you visit. See more..

  17. 4.5 Marietta River Trail (6 reviews)
    - One of the nicer rail-trails I’ve seen lately
Spent 2-3 hours Biking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Marietta River Trail image
The Marietta River Trail is an asphalt rail-trail that stretches about 3.5 miles along the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers. The trail is wheelchair accessible, offers parking at several locations, including the northern trailhead at Indian Acres Park, and is used by bikers and inline skaters as well as walkers and joggers. It’s neat that the trail passes an access point for an historic trestle bridge (the Harmar Railroad Bridge) and also runs past the Ohio River Museum. The latter is especially interesting because it offers close up views of a historic sternwheeler steamboat tug, a flatboat reconstruction, the wheelhouse from an Ohio River steamboat, and other cultural-historic objects. It will most likely make you want to return to visit the museum and tour the W.P. Snyder. See more..
  18. 5.0 The Portage Hike & Bike Trail (6 reviews)
    - Towner's Woods off the bike and hike trail
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
First there is a fair amount of free parking and it is well maintained. The Towner's Woods ties into the hike and bike trail or go off into the woods to hike. The trails are well marked by still maintain the feel of a natural walking path. Walk by lake, big areas, dense wooded areas, open woods, and a grass field. The trails depending on how you use them can make from a long or short hike with options in between. I really enjoy Towner's Woods and highly recommend it. There are bugs of course because of water and woods. If you walk down the bike and hike path maybe 1/2 mile on the right us a 1/2 mile loop that I also like because different from other trails. My favorite spot in the Kent area to go to. Also ignore bridge out signs as you can get to parking bridge closed right by woods but doesn't affect getting there. See more..
  19. 4.0 Frank's Park (5 reviews)
    - Great walking path
Spent < 1 hour Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
Frank's Park offers soccer fields, children's play areas and a wonderful walking/jogging path. there is an oval paved walking/jogging path that encircles the park. It connects on one corner to Mudsock Trail. Mudsock Trail will take you about 2 miles south to Spindler Fields and Dog Park. On the opposite corner, the oval path connects to a new sidewalk/path that runs next to Frazelle Rd. This path/sidewalk will connect you to Hilliard Municipal Park and its paths and will also connect you to new paths that connect to Heritage Trail. So now one could start at Spindler Fields south of Roberts Rd and follow the trail/path/sidewalk to Heritage Trail. See more..

  25. 1.0 Y-not Cycling & Fittness (2 reviews)
    - Here's Y Not!
    Biking Trails
This is the largest and generally only bike shop in the area (Lexington or Mansfield). We were in the area and a part broke. I was 18 miles away and while i could ride to the shop (its on the B&O trail) i needed to know if they had the right part. No one answers the phone. The recording says they are too busy. I tried sales, service and rental options. No luck. The next day we drove there and i was able to get the part. They didn't seem that busy. My suggestion to Y-not: Hire someone to answer your phone. This is not good customer service. Triage the calls so it doesn't take up your technician's time - it really put a bad taste in our mouth. This town needs a competitor down the street if they are really that busy - would be a great place to open another shop!!. That said - its a large shop with seemingly good inventory. Good thing -since you'd have to drive to Cleveland or Columbus otherwise. See more..

  27. 5.0 Mitchell Memorial Forest (1 review)
    - Well maintained park for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, etc.
Biking Trails • Parks • Hiking Trails
This 1500-acre park has lots of nature to offer and several ways to enjoy it. There is a stone picnic shelter with a small play area nearby as well as restrooms (we didn't check if they were open or not). There are a nice mile-long nature trail that runs by a small stream and eight miles of mountain biking/hiking trails (actually two four-mile loops). The nature tail was very nice with even a bench by a stone water feature so very relaxing (particularly early in the morning when we had the trail to ourselves). The only problem, particularly with the longer trails which get some bike traffic, is the mud. If fishing is your thing, there is a small catch-and-release-only pond as well. There used to be a camping area for organized youth groups (scout troops, etc.) here as well, but this has been closed until further notice. See more..
  28. 5.0 Blacklick Greenway Trail (1 review)
    - One of the Best trails in Columbus
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Blacklick Greenway Trail image
I went bike riding on the Blacklick Greenway Trail when the weather had warmed up after a snowstorm, and the trail was alright for riding. Only bridges had some snow. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The Blacklick Creek Greenway Trail runs for nearly 13 miles between Reynoldsburg and Groveport. The trail parallels Blacklick Creek for the vast majority of its journey. The trail is asphalt paved all the way. The scenic trail goes by several community parks and three large regional parks: Blacklick Woods Metro Park in Reynoldsburg, Pickerington Ponds Metro Park in Canal Winchester and Three Creeks Metro Park in Groveport. At Three Creeks Metro Park, the trail seamlessly merges into the Alum Creek Greenway Trail, another long trail in Columbus. The trail crosses Blacklick Creek at several spots and some of the bridge designs are spectacular and we also get beautiful views of the creek and the surroundings. Do not miss a stop at Heron Pond in Three Creeks Park. Certainly, a walk or ride on the Blacklick Greenway Trail would be worth the time when the trees are in full greenery and the birds are flying around. This is one of the best trails in Columbus. - Awesome trail for many activities
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Alum Creek Trail image
Alum Creek Trail is an awesome trail that follows and crosses Alum Creek numerous times on architecturally beautiful bridges. The trail runs 23 miles basically north south from Westerville to Columbus (Three Creeks Park) through a scenic riparian landscape. I found only about two miles about in the middle to be my least favorite due to urban congestion and busy street crossings. The trail is asphalt paved and utilizes several lovely boardwalks which could be slippery when wet; caution signs are posted. Most of the trail is naturally shaded and the trail is in great shape. The paved path is appropriate for all levels of users, and it provides great signage and enough amenities to facilitate smooth biking or walking experience. Frequent trail plaques display local history of river transportation, underground railroad, bridges, and local historical figures. Being next to a robust creek, Alum Creek Trail also provides a great birding opportunities. One will certainly enjoy spending hours and hours on Alum Creek Trail. See more..

    Heritage Rail Trail image
Heritage Trail in Hilliard is a beautiful asphalt paved trail (six mile long) repurposed from an abandoned railroad. It runs mostly flat starting in downtown Hilliard and then transitioning to a rural setting after a couple of miles. The trail goes almost to Plain City (where there is a sign about future plans to extend the trail another two miles to Plain City proper). There are a few road intersections on the trail but they are well-signed. The trailhead in Hilliard is a beautiful urban park (called Heritage Trail Park); and then, the trail skirts by the nice Homestead Metro Park (which has an additional 3/4 mile loop trail. Then the rest of the trail is rural with trees on either side of the trail. I thoroughly enjoyed my bike ride on Heritage Trail in December (no snow), but I am sure it will be much more enjoyable when trees are green. See more..

In this charming little town is a restored train depot that serves as a hub for the some of the best bike trails imaginable. 5 main trails converge here - the Ohio-Erie Trail, the Little Miami Scenic Trail, Creekside Trail, Simon Kenton Trail and Xenia-Jamestown connector. These are wonderfully maintained paved trails that pass through woods, farms, rivers, parks, towns and cities. It's literally biking nirvana! Over three days we biked 160 miles on three paths and would have loved to stay longer. There are plenty of nice places to stop for coffee and ice cream, and a number of micro-breweries to visit too. This review is for the section of the trail north of Casto Park (a length of about six miles). The trail is asphalt paved and adequate caution signs are posted at the few road crossings. Most of the trail is naturally shaded and the trail is in great shape. Features worth a stop and exploration are Heritage Park, First Responders Park and Astronaut Grove. 35. 5.0 Big Walnut Trail (1 review)

    Big Walnut Trail image
The still in-progress Big Walnut Trail (BWT) follows its namesake creek through Columbus and its eastern suburbs of Westerville, Gahanna, and Whitehall. Three separate sections are now open, and I biked the north section in Westerville. This segment runs from Red Bank Boat Parking north to south and ends at Central College, a distance of about 3.5 miles. At the south end, one can continue on a connecting trail (after crossing street) another half mile to reach the lovely Inniswood Metro Gardens. This second short trail is called the Chipmunk Chatter Trail. The main park that the BWT trail goes through is the huge Hoover Reservoir Park, which offers a vast variety of recreational opportunities including an expansive Disc Golf course, hiking & birding trails, a small beach, a walkway on the dam. Near the north, the trail also has a connection with the much longer Towers Trail network. The trail is asphalt paved and provides a combination of riding through the woods and urban areas. I wish there were trail maps and mile markers at more frequent intervals. In the absence, it would be better to have looked up the trail on the internet before getting there. But the Big Walnut Trail is a nice trail and is very popularly used. See more..
