4.5Heinen's Downtown(708 reviews) - Neat grocery in the middle of Downtown Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Solid small grocery in the middle of downtown. If you are staying at one of the downtown hotels, it is very walkable and have enough small stapes for either a light meal or snacks if you don't want to pay bar prices. Very good wine and beer selection as well as some varied cheeses. The nice thing is that they preserved the old architecture of the bank including the large stained glass that is the roof of the rotunda and the paintings along the walls. Even if you don't really buy anything, it is worth a visit to check out.See more..

Out of all the hikes we did in Hocking Hills this was our favorite. The scenery looked like something out of the movie Pandora, the rock house is a pretty cool cave that you can walk through and enjoy the amazing creation of water and time. We took our 7, 8, and 10 year old daughters. they did really well. The cliffs are very steep so you must pay attention to them and where you are walking.See more..
3.5Field of Giant Corn Ears(393 reviews) - An “Oddity of Columbus” but an interesting stop Points of Interest & Landmarks
I’d wanted to see this for some time, so a visit to Columbus to see my OSU student was a perfect time. It can be a quick stop, or a longer play stop depending on your mood or energy. The stone corn is located on a flat corn-er lot and fairly easy to find with parking on site. I was surprised at the number of people there on a Sunday afternoon, but it was still easy to socially distance! It’s a whimsical stop that will have your family saying “Remember that time we saw the field of corn?” but is not something you’ll want to do every time you visit Columbus. See more..
Please don’t miss this little gem of the largest cuckoo clock! This was such a wonderful thing to go see and listen to. Every hour the cuckoo clock comes alive with little dancing people and a little show as parts of the cuckoo clock open up to give you the display. It was such a darling little thing to watch. And the actual town of Sugar Creek near the cuckoo clock was also very eclectic with stores and gift shops, really a must see when you’re in the area it won’t take you long to go through the little area probably an hour. Next time I’m in sugar creek and Amish country in Ohio I’m coming to see the cuckoo clock again!See more..

4.0Over-the-Rhine(171 reviews) - So Much Personality In This Neighborhood! Spent 2-3 hours Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Absolutely loved spending some time walking around the neighborhood! The architecture is great and the art on the buildings is so much fun to look at. Lots to do in the area - parks, markets, restaurants, bars, etc. The Cincinnati Bell runs through the neighborhood too, so easy access. Definitely an interesting neighborhood that's actively going through renovations/gentrification. Absolutely worth your time to visit!See more..
Huffman Prairie is one of those sites that is significant not because of what is there, but because of what happened there. This large, empty field is the world's first airport! The visitor center was closed on the day of my visit, but the field itself was accessible. There are information plaques placed around a walking loop, which allows for a self-guided tour. The site also has a replica hangar as well as the rail from which the earlier Flyers were launch. The location is adjacent to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and the base's long runway is visible. This gives a cool compression of the large modern airfield to the small first-every airfield.See more..
4.5Hartman Rock Garden(148 reviews) - Well Worth the Stop Points of Interest & Landmarks
A friend told me about this wonderful place and so on our way home from the Ohio /state Fair we stopped by here with our four grandchildren (ages 10 to 15). It is astonishing what one man and then one woman were able to create. I particularly liked the Last Supper, the Nativity, and Mount Vernon replicas. All the grandkids enjoyed themselves and asked lots of questions! Admission is free and donations are appreciated. No one approached us or asked for funds but we gave cheerfully. I will now take every out-of-town visitor we get to this wonderful display.See more..

4.5Mound Cemetery(111 reviews) - One of the most unique cemeteries in the USA. Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
This old cemetery is located in the middle of an old residential of Marietta. Easy to access, there is street parking, not drivable inside the cemetery. There are many of the early settlers of Marietta buried here including Revolutionary War veterans. The Mound is located in the center of the cemetery and is said to be the burial site of ancient Chieftans. It is circled by a deep moat, but on one side there is a path and concrete steps that lead to the top. These types of ancient mounds are considered sacred and should not be walked on, so I am not sure why or when these steps were installed. I have heard that perhaps ancient ceremonies were held at the top, hence it may have been thought permissible to create these modern age cement steps. At the top there is a buried time capsule installed in 1976 and to be opened in 2076. This is very unique place to visit. It is said that there are more Revolutionary War officers buried here than in any other cemetery in the USA.See more..

4.5Miamisburg Mound(79 reviews) - Great exercise! Points of Interest & Landmarks
I've seen in the pictures of the other travelers that there was some kind of an ugly fence around the observation deck. I'm glad they removed it and they put some nice benches to sit on and enjoy the view. It's true, there is not a lot to do there, but a lot to think about!See more..
4.5Squire's Castle(78 reviews) - Great place to spend an afternoon Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
A very tranquil location to stop and spend a few hours. When you know the history of the building, it makes it even more exciting. Just to imagine those who were there and the original intention that this castle was originally to be just the guard house, one can only imagine what the full estate would of been like had it been built. Be prepared for other visitors, this building is located within a park area. When we were there, there were several people having picnics, taking graduation and engagement photos, and even a group playing frisbee. We did a full review of this location on our blog site and YouTube channel.See more..
4.5Temple of Tolerance(63 reviews) - Incredible, eclectic display Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
I travel through the Wapak area often, but it always seemed like I didn’t have time to visit the Temple. Today I had the time and what an unexpected treat! The display of rocks and anything and everything is just incredible. I have friends that live in the area and they kept telling me I had to see this creation. Well, they were correct! If you are anywhere close to Wapakoneta, it is definitely worth your time to visit this gem!See more..
4.0Everett Covered Bridge(62 reviews) - An Historic Covered Bridge Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
CVNP is such a diverse park with so many different signature spots and one of those is the covered bridge in Everett. As many have said this attraction has its own parking lot and short path to the bridge over the river. You can get good pictures of the bridge from either landing side; however, the best pictures are from the river which can be reach through a short scamper in the woods. The bridge was built in the late 19th Century after a death from someone trying to ford the creek. Traffic is no longer allow. However, you can cross via foot, bike or horse. Covered bridges are so neat to see; I am glad they were able to keep this as a part of the national park.See more..

Wonderful place off the beaten path. So glad we stopped in. We toured the working mill, shopped the large shop that was full of local art, pottery, etc. Enjoyed a complimentary cup of coffee. Bought some Christmas gifts and enjoyed the countryside around the mill. Took lots of photos. I recommend this. It's free (but nice to leave a donation for the upkeep of the mill). Your kids will love it, especially in the summer so they can walk the paths.See more..
3.0Inscription Rock Petroglyphs(59 reviews) - nice plaque of something you can't see anymore Points of Interest & Landmarks
Inscription Rock Petroglyphs are markings of some early 1200 to 1600 native american carvings. They were found in 1833. The elements have removed most of what can be seen but it is quite interesting to see what they were able to uncovering and copy. It is easy to miss this site. Look for the awkward looking covering over the site. A piece of history on the opposite side of the island from the glacier grooves.See more..

Went in the morning on a hot summer day and this place is truly beautiful. Pictures don’t do justice on how beautiful it is in person. Trail can be narrow in spots but enjoyed walking by the creek listening to the sounds of nature. Such a gorgeous place for a hike in the woods. See more..

4.5Sorrowful Mother Shrine(31 reviews) - Family spiritual outing Saturday: Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Sorrowful Mother Shrine is one of the oldest places of pilgrimage dedicated to Mary in the Midwest. In 1850, Fr. Francis de Sales Brunner, built on this site a small red brick chapel in honor of Our Mother of Sorrows. He had a great devotion to Mary who guided him and his priests safely to the New World from Germany and Switzerland. Fr. Brunner founded this shrine to minister to the newly arrived German Catholic farmers in Northwest Ohio. Twenty years later, in 1870, a second larger chapel replaced the original chapel. On Assumption Day in 1912, the chapel burned. Within two years, the chapel was built and remains on the grounds today. To accommodate the growing number of pilgrims who were coming to the Shrine for spiritual help, to seek physical cures, and to simply nourish their souls, an Outdoor Pieta Chapel was constructed and dedicated in 1968. The Sorrowful Mother Shrine is a devotional landmark in northern Ohio. If in the area, a stop to this Shrine is a must.See more..

Just outside Bellefontaine is Ohio’s highest point. No need for oxygen tanks and the like as the peak is 1,549 feet above sea level. An X marks the spot of Mount Campbell’s peak. If you can call it a peak. It is just kind of a roll. And one person made the astute comment that the copse of trees nearby in the middle of the parking area looked to be higher! Mount Campbell used to be an active NORAD site until 1969. A radar museum is being established there to commemorate the NORAD period there. There is a rotating non-functional radar antenna at the site. The government turned the site into a Career Center in 1974 which is still active today.See more..

I was born and raised in Akron and remember coming here in elementary school on a field trip. That's about all I remembered about Perkins Stone Mansion, and I've always wanted to go back. It's a pretty stone Georgian home and grounds on Copley Rd. I took a tour, and it was very interesting. There was also information about the Perkins family, and there were indeed sheep still roaming the grounds. It was a very hot June day, but it was cool inside the house due to the 14 inch solid stone walls. It felt like air conditioning. The John Brown house across the street is closed for renovations right now, but it was still worth the trip to see the area and tour Perkins Mansion.See more..

4.5Veteran's Glass City Skyway(26 reviews) - A great view of the Maumee River and Toledo, Ohio Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
This is a very interesting looking bridge and is high enough over the river that lake freighters easily pass underneath. A great view of the area. In Casey IL there is a plethora of World’s Largest.... So on the way we wanted to see the Giant Soup Can in Napoleon OH. To be honest I did not realize that it is just one of their tanks painted like the label. The plant is HUGE... and if we had had more time we would have liked to have seen if there was a tour. There is a visitors entrance, but we are not sure whether or not they provide tours. Will have to check it out the next time we are near Napoleon. Unless they have tours of the plant, I wouldn’t recommend going too far out of your way to see this tank.See more..

4.0The Pennsylvania House(24 reviews) - More than we expected Saturday: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • History Museums
Built in 1839, the Pennsylvania House was a popular and respected inn along the National Road. The 7000 square foot Federal-style structure was built using tenon and mortise construction. The Pennsylvania House has been included on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. The first floor houses one of America's finest button collections. A gift of Lagonda Chapter member Grace Porter upon her death in 1948, the collection of 100,000 buttons offers a historic showcase of one of fashion's favorite forms of adornment and status. The recent restoration saw the re-interpretation of several rooms to reflect the house's use and function as an inn and tavern from 1839 to 1869. This can be seen in the recreation of the tap room, general store, ladies parlor or formal dining room, and the drovers' room. The first floor assembly room offers a pictorial timeline showing the house's place within local and national history. It is accompanied by a display of artifacts from the entire lifespan of the house discovered during the basement's excavation. The second floor children's room spotlights a fully furnished, twelve-room Federal dollhouse donated by Lagonda Chapter member Ruth Bayley. It contains period furniture in black walnut and cherry handcrafted by John Kunkel. In the 1870s, Drs. Samuel and Ada Adams rented space in the house for their joint medical practice. A second floor room in the 1850s wing has been furnished with medical equipment of the period including Dr. Samuel Adams' electroschock therapy kit.See more..
