We had a group of 8 adults get together for the Big Darby at Dusk canoe trip and it was fantastic! All the staff were helpful and kind, the owner was such a nice guy and we never felt anything other than appreciated for being there. Great time kayaking the Cuyahoga River! It was a very peaceful location to kayak. Kayaks were newer and in great shape as were the life jackets. Employees were knowledgeable about the river and made sure we knew what we were doing before setting us off on our adventure. I HIGHLY recommend Captain Jake and the Valkyrie for your sailing experience. Beautiful boat, Jake is amazing and accommodating, and we had great wind! My son and I have sailed smaller sailboats, but the Valkyrie is an extremely comfortable beauty. Her size and amenities allow sailing in conditions that would chase most boats off of the water. Captain Jake is easy to talk to, super professional, and fun! One of our group had never sailed before, and because of our experience would love to learn to sail. After our scheduled “boat driver” canceled on our group of 3 adults and 3 kids due to “rough conditions” we searched the web and came across Erie Drifter and gave them a call. The phone did not answer( because Captin Tom was nailing Salmon on Lake Ontario) but 5 minutes later the phone rang and it was Captin Tom. Fortunately for us his partner Captain Drew was willing and ready to go at a moments notice. Within a half hr Captain Drew was at the dock and we were on our way. Captain Drew is a very knowledgeable and experienced outdoorsman. By the time the charter was over it was like we were just a group of guys out fishing on our own boat instead of a charter. I stumbled across this narrated boat tour going through Vermilion and my mom reminiscing about the old McGarvey's restaurant on Memorial Day. The tour included three tour guides: two very nice ladies and one of them being "Bailey" the tour dog. We sailed around the lagoon since the water level was high and had a view of the black and white gorgeous homes. We ended the tour with a spin on Lake Erie to view the immaculate beach. The tour boat holds 23 people, reservations recommended, and is $12.00 a person. A must see tour attraction when you are visiting Vermilion! The tour lasts approximately an hour. Please use 600 Sandusky Street rather than 636 Sandusky Street on your GPS for proper directions. Hungry? You can enjoy wings and a beverage at what is now Quaker Steak and Lube overlooking the marina. This tour made it a lovely Memorial Day weekend!See more..

Captain Zack and his crew were awesome host, knowledgeable, flexible with our arrangements and took care of everything. They also put us right on the Walleye and man was it fun. We did a two day excursion with a group to Fremont, Ohio for kayaking with Ghoul Runnings. Wow, it was a fantastic time. The first day we saw over a dozen eagles flying overhead and perched on the trees above. Day one it was mostly a calm running river with just a few rapids and short drops. Everyone stayed mostly dry and enjoyed our quiet trip downstream. Our second day was awesome as we suited up and headed upstream in a shuttle bus to our drop-off location where we launched Koko (Kokopelli) inflatable boats. These military style kayaks are lightweight and utilized by the military for special ops missions. They were easy to maneuver and provided optimum buoyancy when navigating rough water and waterfalls. Why did we need the Koko boats? Well, the first two hours of the excursion was exciting with a few rapids and small waterfalls. There was some fast moving rapids with splashing and everyone got a little wet, but it was fairly easy for everyone to paddle successfully to our pull out location. There we were informed that we had the option to exit now and ride the shuttle or continue on for another bonus 30 minutes with a higher challenge involving Class 2 rapids, steeper vertical waterfall drops and faster moving water. A few in our group decided to stop while they were safe and secure on land, however the majority of our group decided to go for the gusto and continue on our aquatic journey. Wow, the rapids did not disappoint, everyone enjoyed the thrills of the last leg of the excursion as our boats quickly navigated the swift current and waterfall drops before jumping up over and through the waves. For many of us this was the most exciting part of the trip! Everyone was soaked and tired but the memories will last forever. This excursion exceeded our expectations and everyone is already asking if we can return next year for another adventure down the Sandusky river.See more..
