4.5Winton Woods Park(151 reviews) - Country feeling in the midst of a city Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds
This campground is so convenient to downtown and suburban Cincinatti. We had full hook ups . The setting was lovely and friendly. It was hard to believe we were in the middle of an urban area. It fills up fast and people reserve their favorite spots. We moved our trailer twice within the park and they were accommodating even though we reserved the day before arriving.See more..

4.0Caesar Creek Lake(71 reviews) - Boating on Caesar Creek Lake Bodies of Water
My family boats on Caesar Creek Lake whenever we get the chance! The lake is a nice size and offers plenty of coves for anchoring to swim and plenty of open area for skiing and tubing. There are several ramps, and the one we use is fairly large, as 4 boats/jet skis can be lowered in at one time. They also have a BRAND NEW MARINA that is very nice! Very clean and spacious bathrooms (I highly recommend the marina bathrooms over the boat ramp bathrooms) and a small store with ice cream and various items for purchase.See more..
We were married here in june of 2012 on the hill overlooking the marina and beach. This visit turned out to be a couple weeks after a tornado dis some damage to the park. The pavilion in which we had our wedding party was laying flat on its side :(. But kudos the the muskingum watershed people, they're taking care of everything nicely. There's new cabins and some construction project going on but the park is open and still as beautiful as ever. We highly recommend visiting. Stay in a cabin or go camping and enjoy this park. Its beautiful!See more..
4.5Lake Erie Bluffs(30 reviews) - Wonderful being in natural Lake Erie hiking Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
Went looking for an outdoor different hiking experience and we found 2 Gems. Lake erie Bluffs is a beautiful experienc e with Lake Erie in the wild and nature trails far dirrent than inland trails. Trails are all solid and clear to walk upon, nature was all around, Excursions along the beach was fun with dwiftwood and finding some beach glass, Liter was virtually non existant and the views constantly refresing. Such a clean place, neat viewing tower and not difficult trails. Great place to bring a picnic butwe found a gem 3 minutes away "Break by the Lake in Perry. Able to enjoy a one of the best lunches while watching Lake Erie. Charlotte the Owner served us and told us about the area and gave us a candy treat as we were leaving, The menu was varied and so tasty . I loved my Black bean burgur which had mushrooms, tomatos , pickles and few other selected items. Everyone choose something different and were all + ABOUT THE SELECTION. tHE FRESHCUT french fries were exceptional. There is a neat playground for the kids and a large pravillion overlooking the lake. Surly a day we will rememberSee more..

5.0Metroparks of the Toledo Area(21 reviews) - Very Impressive Park System with Rare Oak Openings Bodies of Water • Biking Trails • Parks
I have been to the Oak Openings only twice and was introduced by my beau who is from Ohio and completed his PhD here. The diversity of plants is quite impressive....there are just so many varieties of grasses, sedges, and shrubs and most of them are native. The trails are well maintained, and the infrastructure in the parks is really lovely. Its hard to know how Toledo keeps up with these huge parks but they are well maintained, and a birder's and botanists dream.See more..
Last weekend a group of us went to Hocking Hills to view the changing of the leaves. We walked to Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave and the Rock House. There were so many beautiful places to look, it just took my breath away. There were rock formations to climb, stone bridges, tunnels through the rocks, falls, rock stairs to climb, and so much to see. If you like the outdoors, this is an awesome place to visit. They even have some handicapped assible areas. It was an invigorating weekend of fun. We are already planning our next trip in the spring to see the leaves come alive again.See more..
4.5White Star Quarry(18 reviews) - Dry suit training Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nice quarry for dive training. Cool upon entry with a thermocline about 20 ft. Water was about 60 degrees f. Visibility was about 15 ft at a 20ft depth and greater as it shallowed out. Silt was stirred from multiple divers. Snack shop with chips, candy bars and selected drinks ( Gatorade, sodas and water ). Air fill and nitrox available on site for a nominal price. 4.5James H. McBride Arboretum(13 reviews) - Very Pleasant and Nicely Maintained! Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Gardens
We weren’t sure what to expect, what with college campuses basically being shut down during the pandemic. The Arboretum is in beautiful shape, but be forewarned, restrooms are locked. The pond, stands of trees, cement walkway and mown paths through the grasses provide something for everyone. As a longtime college teacher, I bet that this is a huge draw for this BGSU regional campus!See more..

5.0Piedmont Lake Marina(8 reviews) - An awesome get away at a beautiful lake! Spent 1-2 hours Marinas • Bodies of Water
Rented a Park Model Cabin & pontoon boat for 7 days (July 3-10, 2020). The cabin was perfect for our stay. Very clean, close to the marina, and well appointed. Everything worked as it should, and the woods view & quiet were just what we needed. The pontoon boat was relaxing, and fishing/touring around the pretty lake was worth every penny! The staff at the marina made check-in and our stay super easy. Very welcoming. Hope to have future repeat visits, and couldn't ask for a more enjoyable stay.See more..
4.5Castalia State Fish Hatchery(8 reviews) - Lots of Trout Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Castalia State Hatchery is fed with water from the Blue-Hole aquifer which is at a temperature of 50F year-round, making it perfect for rearing trout. The hatchery uses this water to raise all of the state’s steelhead and raises rainbow trout to catchable size before being stocked. With COVID, some of the hatchery cannot currently be toured but much of the hatchery’s 90 acres can be seen including a number of raceways, Cold Creek and the aquifer. The best part is probably right at the entrance where there are numerous large rainbow trout which are easily viewed in the clear, shallow waters of Cold Creek; we saw several groups of children having a wonderful time feeding them. While it may be tempting, fishing in Cold Creek in the immediate vicinity of the hatchery is not permitted.See more..
4.5Metzger's Marsh Wildlife Area(8 reviews) - Beautiful view of Lake Erie Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
13 to 14 miles East of Toledo off of Ohio State Route 2, Metzger Marsh is a nice open area. However, personally, the highlight is a parking lot just at the Northern end of the marsh area off Bono Road, which ends at the shores of Lake Erie. We came to this viewpoint at about 6AM, and were able to witness the sun rise across Lake Erie. There is a wide pier going beyond the shore on which one can walk on and situate themselves for some fishing as well. Our hotel was in the Perrysburg area, so it was a 30-minute drive to this area, but well worth it.See more..
4.0Rei Lakes(8 reviews) - We love this place! Bodies of Water
We own a 31' pull behind and live just 5 minutes from this campground. We love to go here for a few days just to soak up the sun, relax and take pictures. The folks that own it are so friendly. We will always spend some weekends here. Come prepared to be self sufficient as there are no amenities or stores near. Probably 15 minutes to closest big box store.See more..

5.0Hidden Lake(5 reviews) - This park just keeps getting better and better! Saturday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
Yes... there's an archery range. And hiking trails... and fishing, and canoeing programs! The wonderful reservable picnic shelter (year round, there's an inside area!) is a true gem, and now they have acquired additional land and there is a connector trail that takes you over to the other side of Hell Hollow Wilderness Area! Oh... and did I mention there is a reservable primitive campsite! The park is located in the south eastern part of Lake County in the more rural Leroy Township area and is a tranquil, relaxing spot. A great choice if you're looking for a less-crowded park on a beautiful spring or summer day. (Of course, it's awfully nice in the fall and winter, too!)See more..

4.0Lake Rupert(1 review) - Hidden gem Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water Relatively few people pass this way to begin with, and most of them stop at Lake Alma if they stop along the way at all. Very few take the time to make the turn on OH 683 and venture a half mile to scenic Lake Rupert, a day use park managed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife. There are boat launches and parking/picnic areas right off the road but no restroom facilities. A state license is required for fishing. 4.0Campbell Lakes Preserve(1 review) - Mostly for anglers, but also nice nature preserve Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests This 183 acre park with four lakes (totaling 57 acres) along the Whitewater River may have limited facilities, but if you like to fish or observe nature, it may just be the spot for you. Fishing here requires no license, but you do have to pay a $2 day fishing fee. You can fish from the bank or use licensed car top boats such as canoes, kayaks and jon boats, but motors are not allowed. If fishing isn't your thing (yeah, not for us either), you can do some hiking and watch the wild critters - lots of birds (including hawks and the occasional bald eagle), small animals, and even the occasional deer (on our visit, we didn't actually spot any deer, but there were fresh tracks everywhere so they're here). We walked from the parking area out to the far end of the south lake on a fairly rough dirt trail that took us out to a clearing on the tip of the lake that also overlooked the river - about 30 minutes round trip. The trail was fairly overgrown and somewhat muddy, but we could still follow it. There appear to be a couple of equally long trails that head off to the western boundary of the park, although we saw signs saying that they were currently impassable due to high water. There is a porta toilet in the parking area, but no other facilities here. We saw two or three other vehicles in the lot, but didn't come across anyone, so it was nice and quiet.See more..
3.0Day Light Falls(1 review) - Dirty Falls, Not Pleasant to View, Vandalism Everywhere Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water
4.0Grand Rapids Park(1 review) - Nice evening Walk Bodies of Water • Parks • Hiking Trails The park is behind the businesses on Front Street. A lot of the restaurants have seating that overlooks the canal. It runs from a dam at the west end to a railroad bridge on the east end. The river was low, so I walked down on the riverbed under the railroad bridge. There were quite a few people fishing. Up into town, there were lots of people out walking and sitting on the swings that are set up. I did not go all the way down to the dam, the mosquito activity was picking up and I didn't bring spray. I found it to be a great place to wander, take sunset, river and bridge photos.See more..
5.0Hammertown Lake(1 review) - Hammertown is a horse shoe shaped lake. It has no gas motor boats on it, so it's great for canoe and kayak paddlers. Bodies of Water The lake is interesting to paddle, woods all around. The wind changes around every bend. There are 10 miles of multi-purpose trails (singletrack) cut thru the woods. It's a challenge for hikers, mountain bikers, hikers, hunters, and horses and riders. There are few large lakes in hill country, this is a good one.See more..

4.0Cross Country Trail(1 review) - Straightforward loop trail... Bodies of Water • National Parks • Hiking Trails Pretty straightforward trail. There is an incline at the beginning & some hills going down toward the end. At this time of the year it was muddy & somewhat slippery but okay with good hiking boots. Partially wooded with some open fields & a pretty creek in the valley towards the middle of the hike. Was not busy at all for our hike midweek. The trailhead starts to the left side of the parking lot. The lot is large. You can extend the hike & take the Lake trail loop at the end. There are steps up & down at the end of that trail. It was just under 3 miles with Lake trail added on. This is part of the Cuyahoga National Park at Kendall Lake.See more..
